That sparked his interest in her even more.

  She was priceless.

It seemed as if going to the Special Gift Flower Shop was a gift in itself when he met her weeks ago. He wondered what those long, sexy legs would feel like around his waist but he tried to push the thought out of his mind.

“It’s beautiful, Blake.” Jen gazed at one of the scenic oil paintings on the wall.

“So are you,” Blake said in a low voice.

Jen blushed and turned around. “Thank you,” she said sheepishly. There it was that deep, silky voice of his.

“You seem embarrassed, Jen,” he said, leaning in closer to her.

The sweet aroma of his sexy aftershave wafted to her nose. He was so irresistible. How was she going to contain herself in his presence.

“No. I’m just not…well, I’m…” Why had she suddenly lost the ability to have a coherent conversation? There went the butterflies in her stomach again. There was no doubt about it, Jen was falling for the tycoon. From the moment she’d laid her eyes on him at the flower shop he stirred delightful emotions inside her and now—they were together. Alone. She wanted to pinch herself. Was she dreaming?

“I would think that you received compliments of that nature every day.”

He stood so close to her she thought she could hear his heartbeat. Her own heart was hammering hard in her chest.

“Do I make you nervous?” he murmured as his hands brushed her arms gently.

Jen felt tingling between her heated thighs. That was it! She was going to lose it. She craved his touch. She wanted to be closer to him in every way.

  “No.” Yes.

A grin touched his luscious lips and she melted under his gorgeous gaze. His dark, intense gaze made her dizzy with excitement.

“I’ve never met anyone like you before,” she whispered.

“Same here,” he said as his hands traced the hollow of her lower back.

Jen shivered with delight. Was he going to make a move on her? Was he going to make love to her? The thought seemed so far-fetched but she’d hoped so. She prayed so. She wanted his arms around her and she desperately wanted to taste the flavor of his lips on hers.

He stroked her hair and leaned into her. “God, you smell beautiful.”

Jen really thought she was going to lose it soon if he didn’t tear her clothes off now and make love to her. A sudden thought struck her. What panties did she have on? Had she worn her sexy lacy ones this morning? No. She had her cotton ones on.

  Crap!

When she’d made it over to his office this morning, she hadn’t thought she’d end up at his penthouse late that afternoon. God, what was she thinking?

It was too late. Blake’s soft lips were nibbling on her neck as he held her gently. She could tell he was aroused. She could feel the hardness of his erection when he leaned close to her.

“Oh, Blake,” she moaned. His lips were tender and soft on her neck. Her inner thighs throbbed with need.

“You really turn me on, Jen.” Blake’s hand cupped one of her breasts and she tingled inside. Her nipples hardened under the arousal. She moaned with erotic pleasure as he slid his hand underneath her blouse and under her bra. Soon his fingers made its way over her taut nipple and gently stroked it.

Jen held on to his firm muscled arms as he continued to caress her. Her inner thighs tingled. He gently led her over to the sofa where he unbuttoned her blouse and unhooked her bra strap from behind.

“Hmm.” Jen’s mind was dizzy with excitement. She could not believe she was making out with Blake Harrington.

Just then she wondered if he had a condom because she really wanted him badly. As if he could read her mind, he breathed deeply and reached into his pocket for a square silver packet. A smile touched her lips. Thank God he had a condom.

“Do you want me now?” he asked in a hoarse voice.

Jen reached over and hugged his neck and moaned into his lips. “Hmm. Yes, Blake. I want you now.”

They passionately kissed and Blake pulled off his blazer and took off his shirt. God, his muscles were ripped and firm. Jen caught herself drooling over his sexy body. Excitement coursed through her veins.

  “Oh, Blake.”

Soon he unzipped his pants and pulled off his boxers revealing his firm, long manhood. Jen’s inner thighs throbbed in heated anticipation. Her panties were well soaked and he seemed to take pleasure in sliding them off her.

They were both completely naked and she enjoyed watching him roll the condom on his erection. She savoured the closeness with Blake as he continued to caress her body with his soft lips bringing her to dizzying heights. She held on to his muscular back as he moved inside her, thrusting with deep pleasure, bringing her to a sweet orgasm. Soon after, Blake came as he shuddered with ecstasy. He relaxed and kissed her softly and told her that he’d wanted her from the first time he laid his eyes on her. She moaned with pleasure and he hugged her firmly before rolling over onto his back.

Jen and Blake held each other in a lover’s embrace and enjoyed watching the sunset beam through the living room of his luxury penthouse. It had been so long since Jen had been intimate and even then she didn’t have much experience. But Blake made her feel so treasured.

Jen didn’t want this moment to end. She didn’t want what she had to end with Blake at all. Where would they go from there? She’d hoped this was the beginning of something permanent.

The following morning, Blake dropped Jen off at her apartment. She’d had the most enjoyable twenty four hours since she could remember. He’d ordered an exquisite full breakfast for the both of them from the room service in the building. They’d eaten scrambled eggs with bacon, sausages and hash browns with whole wheat toast and freshly squeezed orange juice.

“Thank you for taking me home,” Jen told Blake. He looked so relaxed compared to when she’d seen him at the office the previous day.

“No worries. Let me walk up with you.”

“Oh, no. I’ll be fine, thank you. Besides, you have a meeting this morning, remember?”

“Oh, I’m aware of that.” He cupped her chin and softly brushed his lips against hers and Jen quivered. God, he had an effect on her. It was as if her whole body responded to his gentle touch. She was in love with Blake. Madly in love with him.

“Listen, I will call you later.”

“Have fun at the meeting,” she said before biting her lip. How could she tell him to have fun at a meeting?

She went upstairs to her apartment and felt giddy for most of the day.

“You did what?” Kelsia gaped when she saw Jen that afternoon at Starbucks.

  “We…you know…spent the night together.”

Kelsia slapped her forehead with her hand. “Girl, you really know how to go for what you want. Well done!”

  “Kelsia!”

  “What?”

“It wasn’t quite like that. We just…happened to ...”

“You guys made hot passionate love, didn’t you?” she stated with excitement. She barely touched her coffee.

“I’m not going to say. But I enjoyed Mr. Harrington’s company yesterday.” Jen gave a knowing grin.

“Girl, you really hit the jackpot, didn’t you!”

Jen smiled sheepishly. “I think I’m in love with him, Kelsia. I really do.”

“Well, when are you going to see him again?”

“I don’t know,” Jen bit down on her lip. She really hoped it would be soon. “He said he’s going to call me later…today.”

“Good for you. This is cause for a celebration.”

  “Kelsia!”

“Seriously, girl. After what’s his name left you, I really thought you were not going to get over him. You said something like taking a break from all men, didn’t you?”

“That’s true,” Jen said as she took a sip of her coffee, staring out of the window in the café. “I did say that.”

“Well, every cloud has a silver lining, girl. If you didn’t have that ugl
y break-up and lose your job…honey, you would’ve never met Mr. Right.”

Jen gave Kelsia an appreciative smile. What she said was so true about the silver lining. Blake was her silver lining. So was working at the flower shop. She couldn’t wait for Blake to call her tonight.

At nine o’clock in the evening, Jen sat by the phone in the living room as she watched an episode of The Bachelor. Speaking of bachelors…why hadn’t Blake called her? She resisted the urge to try his cell phone or his office in case he was working late. Perhaps she shouldn’t have taken it so literally when he said he would call her later. God, what was with her? She was crazy about this man and she really didn’t know if he was just as crazy about her. She thought he was but maybe she was wrong.

  Damn Blake!

By eleven o’clock at night Jen scrolled down her call display to see all the calls she may have missed that day. None was from Blake. Had he forgotten about her already? Okay, it was only fourteen hours since she last saw him but that seemed like an awful long time.

Damn you, Blake! Why don’t you call?

Jen spent the night tossing and turning, unable to sleep. What a contrast to last night when Blake and she had made passionate love over and over again. Why hadn’t he called her? How on earth was she going to go to work tomorrow with a cheerful smile on her face knowing that Blake hadn’t even tried to get a hold of her?

By morning, Jen woke up deflated. She got dressed and skipped breakfast and headed out to the flower shop to work. She was not going to be the one to call him first. The last thing she wanted to do was come off as desperate. Maybe she was wrong about him, after all.

“Good morning, Mr. Myers,” Jen said as she walked into the flower shop.

“Hey, Jen. Good to see you bright and early. Is everything okay?”

Jen flushed. Was it that obvious? Did she have the look of disappointment or rejection on her face. “Um, yeah. Of course. Just a little tired.”

“Oh?” he looked puzzled. This was the first time she didn’t feel a hundred percent when she came in to work. What could she say? That she’d flirted with and slept with the store’s richest client and he hadn’t even called her back? Jen felt empty and rejected. She was definitely going to swear off men for a long time now. She didn’t want to build up her hopes that he would call so she tried to shrug it off.

Jen had secretly hoped that Blake would step through the doors of the flower shop today but she had no such luck. With every ring of the door chime, her heart turned over in anticipation that it would be him. But she was disappointed every time.

By eight o’clock in the evening she started to clean up to get ready for closing the shop. She’d had her last customer at seven o’clock and it had been quiet since. She ended up working a full day today instead of half a day since the other part-time store clerk had an emergency.

When Jen went outside and locked the door of the store, she turned around and was stunned.

It was Blake, leaning against his Ferrari looking breathtaking. A grin touched the corner of his lips. His hands shoved in the pockets of his suit.

“Blake! What are you doing here?” Jen’s heart flip flopped in her chest.

“I couldn’t wait to see you. I wanted to pick you up from work.”

Jen smiled but she became puzzled. Why hadn’t he called?

“I’m sorry I didn’t get back to you yesterday,” he said as he opened up the passenger side of his car to let her in.

  “Nice ride.”

“It gets me around,” he said matter-of-factly.

“So I guess you were tied up with business.”

  “No.”

  “No?” she echoed, surprised.

“I was tied up with thoughts of you, Jen,” he said as he drove off into the sunset. They took a breezy ride through the side road of the beaches and into the city.

“You had anything to eat yet?”

“No,” Jen murmured quietly. Did she hear correctly? Blake was tied up with thoughts about her.

“I couldn’t work yesterday. I had to cancel my meeting.”

  “You? Why?”

“Like I said, I’ve never met anyone like you, Jen. You did something to me the other night that terrified me.”

  “Oh? What was that?”

“I’m falling in love with you.”

  “That terrifies you?

“The thought of being close to anyone again. You have to understand, Jen, that I’m a complicated man. I’ve suffered many losses in my life and it takes a lot for me to be close to anyone.”

Jen swallowed hard remembering about his mother’s passing.

“Well, I was contemplating what to do. I knew then that I couldn’t live my life without you. That’s what terrifies me. Wanting someone so much and fearing losing them,” he said in a low, deep voice as he stopped near the dock of the lake.

Jen looked around. The sun was setting beautifully. She saw a few yachts parked at the dock. “You own one of these?” she gaped.

  “This one right here.”

She looked at the beautiful, large white boat with multiple levels in awe.

“I thought you might like dinner by the lake tonight.”

  “Oh, Blake.”

A grin touched his lips and he held her, sending quivers down her spine. A pianist sat on the deck of the ship playing a beautiful ballad. Jen could not believe this. She thought she was in some music video or romantic film. This all seemed larger than life. At least larger than the life she was used to.

“Oh, Blake. This is all…beautiful. You did this for me?” she said turning around to meet his dark, sexy gaze.

“I did it for us, Jen,” he murmured as he leaned to kiss her on the forehead.

Jen reached up to kiss his lips, gently.

“I thought about what you said. Stopping to smell the roses. I’m going to do just that.”

  “I think that’s wonderful, Blake.”

He took her hand and led her up to the top deck where she was seated by the waiter on board. The cool breeze from the lake gently brushed her skin. She did not envision having this sort of evening after work but it was a dream come true.

“I was going to offer you a permanent job with my company…”

  “Oh?”

“Well, yes. And the offer is still good. However, I want you to be a permanent part of my life, too.”

Jen flushed. She didn’t know what to say. “Blake….I…”

“Just tell me that you love me.”

“I do. I love you so much. I was going crazy when I thought you didn’t want anything to do with me.”

“Why would you think that?” Blake looked puzzled as the waiter poured their wine.

“Because…well, you didn’t call last night.”

Blake grinned. “I truly am sorry, Jen. It was not my intention to mislead you into thinking I didn’t care.”

Jen gushed as his gaze met hers in the dim light of the yacht. The sound of the waves whooshing against the boat was surprisingly calming.

“So where do we go from here?” Jen asked quietly.

Blake reached over and held her hands across the table. “I want you to be a part of my life, Jen. You’re the most beautiful gift I received at the flower shop the day I first met you.”

Jen looked down at the candle lit ornament on the table. “Thank you, Blake. You’re the best gift, I got, too. Your friendship means so much to me. You mean so much to me.”

Blake took her hand and kissed it softly.

“A couple months ago, I lost my full time job and…my ex. Now…” Jen drew in a deep breath. It was as if she had to lose to gain. What were the odds of that happening? “I can’t believe it. It’s like they say, every cloud has a silver lining. If I hadn’t taken the job at the flower shop, I would have never met you.”

“And if I hadn’t taken a chance on asking you out, I would have missed a precious relationship.”

He raised his glass to hers and they both touched in a toast.

“Here’s to a silver lining and a new beginning.”
