A Hockey Player's Proposal (Oh Captain, My Captain #2)

Page 9

by Lindsay Paige

Second person I call is my lawyer. Yes, I’m aware that it’s still early, but I pay him a lot of money, and I know that he’ll answer the phone. He does. He explains to me that I need to come to the office and sign a couple of things, and then he’ll file everything for me. I tell him I’ll be there in about an hour. I get in the shower and get ready to start this crazy day.

After I finish with everything at the attorney’s office, I head towards the closest car dealership. It’s not fair that Selene will be without a car because of me. The question is, what do I get her? I decide to get her a newer model of what she already had.

It takes me almost all day, but I find it. It’s a 2013 Acura TL. I make sure that it’s a deep red, just like the Mustangs, and that it’s top of the line. I pay extra to have it delivered to her house today. She still thinks I’m on the road, and I want to be there to surprise her with it. I know that she will be home soon. I have them park the car in the garage because I don’t want her to see it until I’m ready.

Me: Come to my house when you get home, bring Bonkers

Selene: Why aren’t you at the game? I saw where they said you’re not there

Me: Come to my house, please

I have about an hour. I quickly clean up and order some takeout. This night is going to be about Selene. I’ll make sure of it. The knocking brings me out of my thoughts. When I open the door, I see that she hasn’t changed out of her work clothes yet.

“Well, don’t you look lovely?” I smirk at her.

“Brody, why aren’t you playing tonight?” She has Bonkers in one hand and puts her other hand on her hip with a stern look on her face.

“Come in and calm down.” She shakes her head and walks in. She sits Bonkers down and he bounces around me. “I had a million things to do today, so I took the day off. I’ll meet up with the team tomorrow. How was your day?

She sighs. “Fine, I guess. Yours?”

“Busy. I had to go to the lawyer’s office and sign a bunch of papers, then I had other errands to do.” I give her a small smile because I can’t wait to show her the car.

“Oh, okay. Well, I need to call about my car and find out about getting a rental, so I’ll see you?” She goes to walk around me.

“Nope.” I grab her wrist and pull her to me. “I have that all worked out for you. Come on.” I look into her beautiful dark eyes before leading her to the door that opens to my garage. “This is for you.” I turn on the light, and it shines on the vehicle.

“What do you mean this is for me?” She looks up at me with a confused expression.

“Well, it’s not fair that you suffered from something that should have happened to me. Plus, you need a car. So, I bought you one. It’s a little newer, but it is Mustang red. Your other one wasn’t.” I chuckle at her.

“Brody, you…you can’t just buy me a car. Mine could be fixed. This wasn’t necessary.” She walks over to the car and stares at it, her fingertips touching the hood. Bonkers comes around me and wags his tail next to her.

“First,” I walk over to her and pull her into my arms, “I can buy you a car because it’s my fault anyway. Second, your other car is fixable, but do you really want to drive it? Sell it, make some money. It was very necessary for me to do this, Selene.”

“But Brody…” Her words trail off, like she doesn’t know what to say next.

I hold her tighter to my body. “Look it’s a gift. Just say thank you and enjoy it.”

She looks back at the car, then at me. “Thanks then.”

“See was that so hard?” I give her a kiss on the forehead.

“Yes, it was. I still don’t know what to make of it.”

“Baby, it’s because I want to make sure that you don’t suffer because of some crazy ass stalker.”

“Well, thank you,” she pauses for a moment. “Did you just call me baby? Not sure what I think about that either.” She giggles.

“Did I? I didn’t realize that. I think it fits though.” The doorbell rings, letting me know that the food is here. “Let’s eat.” I turn and head towards the door. I pay for our stuff and go back to the kitchen. Bonkers is running around like he’s doing laps. I wish I had half of his energy.

After we fix our plates, we sit down at the table. We don’t say anything as we eat for a little while. I’ve been thinking about it all day, and I have to ask.

“I know I shouldn’t push the issue, but have you thought about last night, not just the crazy part?”

“Of course, I have. I’ve been thinking about it since.” She doesn’t look up at me. Instead, Selene stares down at her food.

“I know that you said ‘we’ll see’, but I want you to know that I’m ready when you are. But I won’t bring it up again until you want to talk about it.” I really won’t bring it up anymore, but it’s killing me not knowing.

“Can I be honest about one thing for a second?” She sets her fork down and looks me right in the eyes.

  “Of course.”

“I have tons of fun with you, Brody, but the girl has thrown me for a loop. Not saying anything in particular about us, just that she’s distracting me, if that makes sense.”

I nod. “It does,” I pause and I’m not sure if I should continue, but I do anyway. “If you want me to be honest, it makes me a bit sad. I haven’t felt this way about anyone in a very long time. Hell, I didn’t think I would ever feel this way again.” I shift uncomfortably. “I hope that you’ll be able to look past this and see that I’m here.”

She looks at me, but doesn’t say anything right away. “I need more time to process, that’s all I’m saying. Besides,” she gives me her sexy smile, “we’re still friends and fuck buddies, right?”

I grin. “Always. I can’t just stop having sex with you or stop being your friend. It would hurt my feelings, and what would Bonkers think if I didn’t come over and hang out?” I finish, looking at the dog laying at my feet.

“He’d start thinking you’re not only a lousy person, but it would probably affect how he sees you as a hockey player too.” We both burst out laughing. We finish our dinners and clean up everything.

“Guess I’ll head home,” Selene says.

“No,” I answer firmly. She looks at me puzzled. I walk up to her and cup her face. I can see in her face that she wants me. “Stay with me tonight. Wake up in my arms.”

She doesn’t say anything for a moment. “We stayed here last night. It’s my place tonight. Come over when you’re ready. I have to take care of Bonkers.” She kisses me hard. There is no doubt in my mind what she’s implying. When she breaks the kiss, she leaves. I’m standing in the kitchen alone. God, she has a sexual hold on me like no other. I finish the last couple of things in the kitchen, and then make sure my house is locked up tight before heading to Selene’s.

I knock, and she answers, hiding most of her body behind the door. My cock jumps inside my pants because this means she’s wearing something sexy. I quickly walk in and shut the door. There she stands in black lace underwear and a bra. She’s stunning.

“Like what you see?” Her voice is low and full of desire.

I can’t help myself. I have to have her right now. I block her in and grip the back of her neck. “Fair warning, you’re going to be sore in the morning.”

  “Challenge accepted,” she smirks.

I capture her lips in mine, driving my tongue into her mouth. She tastes so sweet as our tongues dance with each other. She moans as I pick her up and push her against the wall. Her legs are wrapped tightly around my waist. I push my hardness against her, and I end up moaning.

“Take me to the bedroom, Brody. Please,” she begs breathless. I look at her swollen lips, and my body is aching for her.

I grab her ass to hold her in place as I head up the stairs to her bedroom. I throw her on the bed, and Bonkers jumps on the bed, thinking we’re about to play.

“Out, Bonkers!” I command and the dog jumps off the bed and out the door. I shut her bedroom door so there ar
e no more disturbances.

I don’t say anything as I take off my shirt, dropping it to the floor. Selene is on the bed, propped up on her elbows. I’m on the verge of losing it just by the way she’s looking at me. I undo my belt and unzip my jeans.

“No.” She stops me as I’m about to drop my pants. She comes over and pushes me up against her bedroom door, dropping to her knees. My body actually shakes with the thought of what is to come. She has never done this to me, but I know that it’s going to be as good as everything else in our sex life.

She pulls my pants down along with my boxers. Selene looks up at me a small smile on her face before taking me in her mouth. My knees actually give way a little bit as she works her tongue along my shaft and tip. I hold on to her dark hair, guiding her mouth up and down. I groan as I watch her gorgeous mouth working me harder. I feel myself tighten up, and I know I’m close to release.

“Selene…if you don’t…oh God…you have to stop,” I pant harder each time she takes me further in her mouth. I finally push her away, holding her shoulders firmly.

“Well, captain Ross, you act like I was done.” She licks her lips, and the blood rushes to my face. She was going to finish me off, but I don’t want that. I want to be inside of her.

“You’re going to pay for that sexy mouth on my cock, baby.” I bring her up to my mouth. “I promise you, you’re going to be sore.”

I pick her up and take her to the bed. I rip off her bra and panties. I kiss her deeply before moving down her chest to her breast. I gently pull her nipple between my teeth as she digs her nails into my shoulder. I grab her thigh and push her legs apart. I release her breast and reach for a condom.

I roll it on, and without another word, push right into her. She yells out my name, arching her back. I push harder into her, again and again. She keeps saying my name.

“Harder,” she moans. I can’t push into her any deeper, so I stop.

“What-” Before she can say anything else, I flip her over. I pull her hips closer to me. She yells my name again as I pound harder into her core.

The room echoes with the noises of our panting and bodies slapping together. I feel her tightening around me, and I’m not going to last much longer. I feel her juices on me as I release in her. My knees give out and I fall onto her back.

“You’re smothering me, Brody,” she says, and I roll off of her.

I need to clean up, but I seriously can’t move. I lay there for another moment, and once my heart rate slows, I get up. When I finish up, I go back and lay next to her.

“You need to let Bonkers in,” she says.

I get back up and open the door. Bonkers runs in and jumps on the bed. I laugh at the dog and lay next to Selene. I wrap my arms around her and kiss her neck. There’s no place I rather be than with my girl.

  Chapter Thirteen

  Selene

Brody must’ve had a busy day because he’s already fallen asleep. My mind can’t begin to focus on any one thing right now. Where do I start? He bought me a car, admitted feelings for me, and then fucked me senseless. I don’t really know what to think. I want to talk this over, but it’s late and I rather not call Allison. Brody said we’re friends, and I need a friend. Rolling over to face him, I take a moment to cherish how adorable he looks sleeping. His lips are parted as he slightly snores and with his eyes closed, you can see how long his eyelashes are.

  “Brody?” I whisper.

He squeezes his arms tighter, not opening his eyes as he sleepily says, “Yeah, babe?”

First baby and now babe? I would giggle if the purpose of me waking him up in the first place wasn’t looming over me. When I don’t say anything right away, he opens his eyes.

  “Everything okay?” He squints, worried.

“I need to talk to my friend.”

That wakes him up. He tugs me closer, kisses the tip of my nose, and asks, “What’s up?”

I don’t know if it’s because of the sweet innocence of his kiss or because he didn’t ask what was wrong, but instead, ‘What’s up?’, but I get the urge to call Allison and gush over this man. Pushing that to the side, I focus on what I want to talk about.

“Can you be Brody, my friend, and not the Brody who’s spending the night and buying me a car? Just for right now.”

“Of course. Talk, Selene. I’ll listen.”

To make it less weird than it already is, I talk about him like he’s someone else. “Okay, so there’s this guy I know and like,” his lips quirk into a smile, “and he would like to date me.”

“But?” he questions goodnaturedly as if I’m not talking about us.

“I’m scared,” I whisper. “You see, he has a stalker who seems to have it out for me and it’s worrying me more than I would like to admit to him. It’s a disturbance between us that’s making everything even more complicated. But that’s not my biggest worry.”

“And what is that?” Brody is doing a really good job at looking like the concerned friend.

With a deep breath, I keep going. “He’s been hurt before and while I know I wouldn’t hurt him in that way, I don’t want to hurt him at all. Ever.” During my pause to evaluate his reaction, Brody speaks.

“I’m sure he trusts you better than anyone not to hurt him. So maybe you should let him worry about that.”

I close my eyes for this next part. “And what about me?”

“You should let him worry about that too.”

Ignoring him and the urge to smile, I continue, “There’s something else. He’s this big shot hockey player and that ties him to the one thing in my life that means the most to me. When we started sleeping together, I was worried that he was going to affect that, but he didn’t. And now, he wants to take it a step further and I…I…” My voice trails into silence.

“You’re scared that he might take that away from you somehow,” he finishes.

I bury my face into his chest and nod. “It’s silly-”

“Selene, stop,” he says softly. Brody hooks a finger under my chin and makes me look at him. “I promise you that won’t change. There is nothing I won’t do to ensure that. I know how much hockey means to you and I don’t want to take it away. You have to believe me.”

“I do, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t scare me any less.”

His lips brush mine as he tells me, “That’s how you know it’s worth the risk. If you’re scared to lose it all, then you know it’s something that’s worthy of all that fear. I need you to trust me when I say that how I feel about you merits the leap you need to take to give us a chance. All I need is one.”

Brody’s eyes are confident, trustworthy, and they make me feel safe. I finish pressing our lips together for a slow kiss. “Thank you,” I mumble.

He grins. “You’re welcome. Let’s get some sleep. Some of us need beauty sleep.” Brody holds me even tighter, and I have no problem falling asleep quickly in his arms.

“He bought you a car?” Allison says for the fifth time.

“Let it go already. I have.” Honestly, I rather think about how amazing Brody was when I woke him up last night. He gave me one of the best kisses this morning before he left and told me to call if I needed him, a friend, or if I just wanted to talk. I smile thinking about it.

  “Fine. Has anything else happened?”

“He slept over last night.” I shrug like it’s no big deal. All the nerves aside, I’m really excited about us. How can I not be when Brody’s so, well, Brody?

Before Allison can ask her question, our receptionist peeks into my office.

“I’m really sorry to bother you, Selene, but there’s a woman here insisting on seeing you. She doesn’t have an appointment and I told her that would be the only way, but she won’t leave. She’s very adamant on seeing you right now.”

My stomach immediately knots. Surely Jessica isn’t here. Allison gives me a worried look, and I know she’s thinking the same thing. With a gulp, I say, “Bring her on back then.” Our rece
ptionist leaves, appearing moments later with Jessica herself. Oh, no.

“Well, looks like you have a cozy job.” She smirks.

“What are you doing here? You’re not allowed near me, you know that, right?”

“You’re wrong. I’m not allowed around my Brody. You’re brainwashing my boyfriend. He loves me. He belongs with me,” she says fiercely. She wholeheartedly believes everything she’s saying. “I suggest that you stay away from him before something happens to you,” she adds with a grin, reminding me of her note.

My heart freezes mid-beat, but I ignore it. “I have no control over Brody. If he’s not with you, it’s because he doesn’t want to be. I don’t think threatening me is smart either. You should go.” I just want her gone.

“I’m not going anywhere. You’re not listening to me.” She puts her hands on my desk and leans towards me. “Stay away from my boyfriend.” Jessica changes tactics with her next words, “You know, I like your dog. He seems like such a good dog, running around your backyard this morning after Brody left. I would hate for something to happen to him.”

“You’ve been watching me?” I manage to ask. She’s taken away my privacy and innocent moments. My entire body is tense, waiting for her to speak.

“I guess you could say that I was simply checking up on you. You know, to make sure you get the point. Leave. Brody. Alone.”

Her orders, her demeanor, everything about her is pissing me off. “Get. Out. If you ever come around my dog, me, or even Brody, again, I will kick your ass, you crazy bitch. Now leave.”

“Well, just remember that I warned you.” She smiles before turning and leaving.

I’m numb. This isn’t a one time crazy incident. Jessica has officially taken things to another, more dangerous level. Allison seems at a momentary loss for words as well. But I quickly snap out of it, wanting nothing more than to be at home, where I’m supposed to feel safe and comfortable. I stand and grab my things.

“What are you doing?” Allison asks.

“I’m going home. Cancel my appointments for the rest of the day or find a way to fit them into your schedule. I don’t care. I’ll call you later, okay?”
