Ethan and I were married two months later.
He gave a speech at our wedding that made me realize just how much I loved him. He said how cool it was that I could catch anything in my mouth. (During this part of the speech, he elaborated on instances where I had made amazing catches in his presence, and he even made me demonstrate one time, which greatly entertained everyone.) He said it was great that I could paint, and knit, and he loved it that I could make him laugh. He said he loved how I looked and hoped our babies came out looking just like me with extra large hair and all. Ethan recited a sweet, touching list of the things he liked about me, and then he said something I wasn't expecting at all. He said that even though he liked those things, they weren't what drew him to me the most. He looked straight at me with our friends and family sitting there watching and said that the most attractive thing about me was the extent to which I loved and reflected God. No one had expected Ethan to say something like that. It was so raw and honest and unplanned that tears sprang to my eyes. This gave him the excuse to say that I cried from happiness at the drop of a hat, which drew a round of applause and marked the end of his speech.
"I love you so much, I can't stand it," I said, wiping my cheeks.
A whistle came from the audience, and this created a chain of about two or three more.
"I love you so much I can't stand it, too," he said.
Another whistle happened, and this prompted Ethan to flick his chin at me, telling me we should give the audience what they wanted. I smiled before leaning up to kiss him, and our friends and family cheered.
As it happened, my happily ever after was most spectacular. But, honestly, I wasn't surprised. I knew all along that my story would be a success. I know the Author, after all, and He knows every hair on my head.
