  Dara laughed and kissed her back again. “How much time do we have?”

  Sawyer chuckled. “How much of a hurry are you in?”

  Dara squeezed her hand and tugged her toward the hall and the bedroom beyond. “Plenty of time.”

  “I’m glad I wasn’t later, then.”

  “You never have to worry about that. I know you’ll be here.”

  Sawyer slowed her down and turned her around to face her. Her eyes grew suddenly serious, her expression steady and strong. “I always will be. I love you.”

  “I know. I love you too,” Dara said. “It seems I’m learning that need is not a weakness.”

  “And I’m learning that in some parts of my life, I don’t need to be in charge,” Sawyer said. “All I need to be is a good partner.”

  “Thank you,” Dara said as she kissed her. “For being exactly the woman I need.”

  “I’m feeling pretty lucky. Because I’m pretty sure you could have had anybody in the world.”

  “I don’t know if that’s true or not,” Dara said, “but I can tell you this. You’re the only woman I want. Today, tomorrow. Every single one of them.”

  “And I can promise you I’ll be right here.”

  “Like I said, just what I need.” Dara tugged her down the hall. “Now come on, Colonel, time for a little R and R.”
