It continued again and again—an endless loop—pushing his grandmother, only for her to return, until he could no longer stand it and he managed to scream.
SHANE BOLTED upright in his bed. Drenched in sweat, his breathing labored, he reached for the lamp on the nightstand and turned it on. It bathed his bedroom in a soft glow. His heart racing, he attempted to calm his breathing. The silence in the room was deafening. He remembered screaming in his dream, but since his roommate hadn’t come barging into his bedroom, he assumed it had all been a dream, and there had been no real scream.
His breathing now steady, he glanced over to his bedroom window. He had forgotten to close the blind before going to bed. Beyond the window was darkness. Shane stared at the window, not willing to attempt sleep again and risk another nightmare. It was then he noticed a soft glow on the windowpane. Frowning, he thought for a moment someone was outside in his yard with a flashlight.
He started to get out of bed to have a closer look. It was then he saw it. His grandmother, Agatha Pine, staring in the window, looking at him.
Shane screamed. This time, it woke up his roommate.
