While they had been on their picnic the blocks had remained silent, but as he arrived at his workplace they lit up again.
“You were not at work because you decided to attend your morality assessment.” They told him. Some ‘morality’ review he had received. He was sore in places that he could not remember he had ever even felt before.
“That may be true, but what is recorded by the computers people instinctively trust. If the records show you at the morality review then everyone here will accept that this is what occurred. In this way we fake the results of the review and you get some time to spend with Sally.”
Entering the office through the main reception he came face to face with the receptionist. She had never noticed him before, never spoken with him. He even doubted if she knew his name, yet as he passed she called out: “How did it go?”
How did it go? It had been fantastic, that is how good it had been. But he wondered how she could know that he had been on a picnic? Then he realised that she must be referring to the fake morality review. He decided to tell her honestly about how good the day had been. “I really don’t think it could have gone any better, my dear.”
“Oh that’s great. I heard that you had done well.” And she smiled. Not as brightly as Sally, but at least warmly. He had never seen her smile at anyone before.
