Once Quiet (Jack Widow Book 5)

She knew it was coming and she didn’t argue about it. She was glad that she had known him. She had told him so. She had told him that she was glad that he was out there. She felt safe knowing that he was out in the world, not settling for anything.
Always moving.
Always going.
SEVEN DAYS AFTER Jack Widow left Montana, someone made a phone call from another man’s boat, parked in one of Miami’s harbors.
The phone call was to Quantico, Virginia.
The caller asked for Rachel Cameron of Unit Ten.
The line was put on hold and Cameron was retrieved and she picked up the phone.
She said, “Hello?”
Widow said, “Job’s done.”
Cameron smiled and said, “I know. We arrested the CEO of Sossaman and he’s going to jail for a long time. After we identified Qatal with his fingerprints, we found out his real name and tracked down the rest of his crew, and the ones we haven’t—we will. Soon. Oh, and we got the mole. Think I told you that.”
Silence.
“Widow? You there?”
“Yeah.”
“You okay?”
“Yeah. Listen, next time. Just ask me.”
Cameron said, “We had to test you.”
“Why?”
“We’re afraid you might’ve lost a step. It happens.”
Widow said nothing.
“Sorry for the charade and the six guys. I heard one hit you with a pipe? Hey, check your bank account lately?”
“No.”
“Check it. You might be surprised. Might be a bonus in there. Courtesy of Uncle Sam. And Widow, thank you. Really.”
“No problem.”
“Where will you go next?”
“I don’t know. I miss the ocean. So maybe somewhere coastal.”
The Author
Scott Blade has written five bestselling books, two of which reached the top 100 on Amazon.
He isn't a traditional writer who spends his time stuck behind a computer in a dreary office.
The dealio about Scott Blade is that he is a real-life drifter, who writes books and hitchhikes or uses public transport from place to place, normally from Starbucks to Starbucks. What started as an experiment inspired by Jack Reacher, wanderlust, and others things, became a real-life habit.
And now he writes a bestselling book series based on the drifter hero, Jack Widow.
Scott takes characters, places, and plot elements from the towns, seashores, lonely roads, and busy cities across the globe. He travels the planet, sometimes with his Black German Shepard puppy, Django, carrying a MacBook and the bare essentials, going from place to place, and solving mysteries. Not real mysteries, only the ones in his head.
Currently, Scott is based out of Miami, but often travels North America and is working on his next Jack Widow book.

Former undercover Navy cop Jack Widow used to live it rough. Now he’s living it up.
Starting on a beach in Miami, strolling up the coast of Florida, Widow is watching the sea, getting tan from the hot sun, and surfing the greenish waves. Life doesn’t get much better, in his opinion.
One day on Cocoa Beach, Widow is waiting for his set on a morning that is overcast with storm clouds. Which is good news to him because the tourists have gone away and the beach is far from crowded. More ocean for him.
While he waits, a metal object washed in by the waves and sticking up in the sand catches his eye.
Widow picks up a pair of military dog tags. Immediately, he sees something very, very wrong.
The normal dog tag information is there. He sees the social security number, the blood type, and the religion of the owner of the dog tags.
The thing that disturbs him is the name. There is nothing. No first name. No last name.
Someone has scratched off both.
Curiosity plants itself down deep, making Widow want to find out whose name is missing. But what starts out as something that may seem inconsequential takes Jack Widow into a web of murders that someone in the military wants gone and buried.
