  I was finally happy.

  ~~~~
  The moment my father opened the door, Wyatt saw me in my red corset-fitted dress with my hair pulled up, just a few ringlets hanging down. I knew it was going to be a long night. Wyatt loved my hair up, and red was his favorite color. My prom dress flared out just below my waist, and my breasts fit the dress perfectly.
  When my mother saw it on me, she had rolled her eyes. “God, help me now. One look at you, and that boy is going to be fighting like hell to keep his penis in his pants all night.”
  My father pulled Wyatt to the side and had a chat with him. My mother took me into the kitchen, and when she opened her mouth, I knew I was about to get a repeat of the talk.
  “Sky, I’m not stupid. I’ve been in your shoes before. I know there is a strong possibility that something might… well, that something might happen between you and Wyatt… if it hasn’t already.”
  “Oh. My. God! Mom! Really?”
  My mother looked at me with that all-knowing look. “Be careful, Skylar. Be sure. That’s all I ask of you. I know I’m one of the loosey-goosey mothers, but I’m just keeping it real with you. I’m not going to sugarcoat it and pretend that kids don’t have sex before marriage. Hell… I didn’t wait. You’re eighteen, and I’m going to trust that you know what you’re doing. Now, your father, on the other hand… I’m pretty sure Wyatt might be so scared by the time he walks out that door that he won’t even lay a hand on you all evening.”
  I let out a laugh and hugged my mother. “I know you care, Mom. I promise I’d never do anything I wasn’t ready to do. I do love him, Mom. More than anything.”
  She smiled as she shook her head and sighed. “I know you do, and I know he loves you, too.”
  I knew she wanted to say more, but she didn’t. My dad and Wyatt walked in just as my mom hugged me one more time. I turned and looked at Wyatt. He looked so handsome, but his face was white as a ghost.
  If my father scared him into not touching me, I swear to God… I’m going to hide his fishing poles for the rest of the summer.
  Wyatt held out his arm. “Shall we, angel?”
  I smiled and put my arm around his. I glanced at my dad, who was giving Wyatt a dirty look, and then I turned to my mom to say good-bye.
  Wyatt’s parents had been sitting on the front porch, looking at all the photos they had taken. When we walked out, they jumped up and gave us a few more instructions before we could finally head to prom.
  ~~~~

  As we walked in, Avril Lavigne’s “Here’s to Never Growing Up” was playing. Then, I noticed that people were starting to stare at me.

  This is a mistake, such a huge mistake.

  “I can’t do this. They’re all talking about me. Can we leave, please?” I said to Wyatt in a panicked voice.

  He smiled as he pulled me closer to him. I saw him wave to the DJ and nod his head.

  “Nope. You need to dance to at least one song at your prom, angel… maybe two,” he said with a smile.

  I looked around as he walked me out to the dance floor. I felt like I was trapped, and I couldn’t get out. All I wanted to do was run away.

  Then, Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” started playing as Wyatt held me tight up against his body.

  I looked up at him. “How did you know?”

  He smiled as he ran the back of his hand down my face. “You told me this was your favorite song the first time we ran into each other at the lake.”

  I felt tears burning my eyes, and I tried to hold them back. I shook my head as I slowly smiled at him. “You’ll never know how happy you’ve made me, Wyatt. You make me feel…” I couldn’t finish my sentence.

  “Tell me, Sky. Please tell me.”

  “You make me feel so special, so loved. With you holding me, I feel like I can do anything. I feel… beautiful.”

  “You are beautiful, angel. I’ll always make sure to remind you every single day for the rest of our lives how beautiful, special, and loved you are.”

  I closed my eyes as I placed my head on his chest, letting the tears stream down my face. Once the song ended, I pulled back and smiled. “I danced. Can we leave now?”

  The way Wyatt was looking at me had my stomach doing flips. “You want to leave, angel? We just got here,” he barely whispered.

  I reached up as he leaned down toward me. I put my lips up next to his ear. “I really, really want to leave, Wyatt. I’m dying here. I need to be with you… now. I’m aching for you.”

  As Wyatt pulled me closer to him, I felt his erection against me. Oh god. I let out a small moan as I pushed myself into him more.

  “Oh Jesus, Skylar. You’re killing me.”

  “Please, Wyatt. I want you.” I knew I was begging him, but I could see the passion growing in his eyes. He wanted me just as much as I wanted him. I smiled and tilted my head as I looked at him with pleading eyes. “Wyatt.”

  He grabbed my hand, and before I knew what was happening, we were heading back out to his truck. I smiled as I thought about being with him. I was scared to death but excited at the same time.

  He opened the door for me, and I felt my hands shaking as he took my hand and helped me up into his truck.

  He stopped and looked at me. “Sky… you know we don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. You know that, right?”

  I smiled as I thought about all the times I knew he’d wanted to go further, but he’d always stopped himself. He truly cared about me, and that warmed my heart so much. It was me who was pushing us to finally be together. I was going to explode if I had to keep waiting.

  “Wyatt… please take me to the cottage. I want to be with you.”

  He slowly smiled as he ran his hand through his hair. He leaned in and so softly kissed me on the lips. “I love you, angel.”

  “I love you, too.”

  CHAPTER EIGHT

  Wyatt

  My hands were practically slipping off the steering wheel. I was so nervous. Jesus H. Christ, what is wrong with me? It’s not like I haven’t had sex before.

  I glanced over toward Skylar. She was looking out the window, humming to a country song on the radio.

  She was the reason I was so nervous.

  Shit, I just want this to be special for her.

  What if she thought I sucked?

  I shook my head and cleared everything out—all the worry, the doubt… the threats from Skylar’s dad, Mitch, and Skip. Skip’s was the best. He had sent a Marine buddy to personally deliver his threat, and it was very effective to say the least.

  “Wyatt? Are you nervous?” Skylar asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.

  I quickly glanced at her and smiled before looking back at the road. “I just don’t want to disappoint you or push you into this too fast.”

  She let out a giggle and reached for my hand. “Wyatt, you could never disappoint me. I want this. I want this more than anything.”

  “Skip’s gonna kill me, Sky, if he finds out I brought you to a cottage and had my wicked ways with you.” I glanced and winked at her.

  She squeezed my hand and let out a laugh. My heart started beating harder as I pulled down the country road that led to the small cottage where we would be staying the night. Skylar started humming again as she rubbed her thumb along my hand. I was instantly calmed.

  As I turned down the drive, I noticed her sitting up straighter.

  She pulled her hand from mine and put it up to her mouth. “Oh. My. God.”

  I smiled when I saw all the white lights in the trees.

  “I’ve never seen anything so beautiful,” she said as I parked my truck.

  I looked over at her as I ran the back of my hand down her cheek. “I have.”

  Skylar turned and looked me in the eyes. Her beautiful blue eyes captured mine, and my heart just about stopped. I will never, ever love anyone like I love her.

  The next thing I knew, Sky was jumping out of the truck and running up to the porch. When she turned back around, th
e smile on her face dropped my heart to my stomach. I couldn’t help but smile back at her.

  I got out of the truck and opened the back door to grab our bags. I reached under my seat, feeling around for the small blue velvet box. The moment my hand touched it, I felt sick. What if she says, no? What if she says, we’re too young to even be thinking marriage? Shit. Maybe I should wait. I stood there and just held the box in my hand before Sky called my name, pulling me back from my thoughts.

  “Wyatt? Are you coming or not?”

  I shoved the ring box in my jacket pocket and shut the door. My mind went back to the conversation I’d had with Skylar’s father two weeks ago. I had asked his permission for Skylar’s hand, and at first, he’d looked like he wanted to beat the shit out of me. Then, he’d sat back in his chair with his two index fingers resting on lips. After what seemed like forever, he’d finally smiled slightly. He’d shaken his head as he leaned forward, like he was going to whisper to me. I’d instinctively moved toward him to hear what he was going to say.

  “I like you, Wyatt. I always have. I can read people, and I knew the moment I met you that you loved my daughter and wanted nothing but the best for her. You’re both young, and I’m not so sure how I feel about this. She has to go to school first. I won’t accept anything less.”

  “Yes! Yes, of course, sir. I was thinking we wouldn’t get married until after college. I want the same things for Skylar as you do, sir.”

  “You know, her brothers will help me hide your body if you ever hurt her?”

  “Um… yes. Yes, I’m well aware of that, sir.”

  “Fine… as long as you are aware of the fact that I love my daughter more than the air I breathe.”

  “Very much aware of that, sir.”

  “Then, you have my permission to ask Skylar to marry you.”

  I closed my eyes and smiled, thinking about how happy he had been when I showed him my grandmother’s ring.

  “Wyatt!” Skylar called out.

  My eyes flew open, and I started to laugh. “I’m coming!”

  I walked up the steps and set the bags down as I reached into my pocket for the key to open the front door.

  Skylar practically pushed me out of the way to get into the cottage. I turned on the lights, and I heard her let out a gasp. I looked around and smiled. It was perfect. It was decorated like an old English cottage, and Sky was walking from side to side, going on and on about how beautiful everything was.

  “Yep. It’s all very beautiful. Just like you, angel.”

  She spun around and looked at me. The look in her eyes was nothing but pure love. She started to make her way over to me, and I dropped the bags right as she slammed her body into mine.

  “It’s perfect. You’re perfect! Everything about this evening is perfect.”

  I stroked her hair as I thought about the ring in my pocket. “Skylar, I have one more thing I need to do before we… before we make love.”

  She pulled back and smiled. “I just want you, Wyatt. I don’t care about anything else. Please. I just want to feel you. I’ve wanted you, I swear, since the first day I put my eyes on you.”

  A few times, Sky and I had come so close to making love, but we’d always stopped. I hadn’t wanted our first time to be in my truck or her bedroom. We’d almost lost control on her sofa one night, and I had been so close to saying fuck it, but her brother had pulled up in the driveway, getting home early from a date, so he’d saved us from making a mistake.

  “Oh Christ, Sky, you have no idea how much I want to be with you. But I also want to be with you forever, not just tonight. I want to wake up every morning to your beautiful face. I want to roll over in the middle of the night, reach for you, and pull you to me, just so I can smell your hair and touch your beautiful, soft skin. I want to spend every waking moment with you. Hell, I’ll even change my degree to be in every one of your classes if you asked me, too.”

  Skylar let out a small giggle. “Wyatt, we’ve already talked about this. I want that, too! I thought we were going to go apartment hunting this weekend.”

  Holy shit, this girl is so damn cute. She thinks I’m talking about moving in with her!

  I looked around the little cabin. It screamed romance… at least, I thought it did. Turning back to Skylar, I reached down and brushed my lips against hers. When she let out a small moan, I wanted to just rip off her dress. I pulled back slightly and smiled.

  “I love you, angel.”

  “Oh god, Wyatt… I love you, too.”

  I slowly got down on one knee as I reached in my pocket and took out the ring box. I brought it up and watched her face. Her smile faded for one brief second when I opened the box and exposed the oval cut diamond ring surrounded by round cut diamonds on each side of the center stone. The band was made of white gold, and it was encrusted with diamond accent stones. It was the perfect ring for my angel.

  As she brought her hands up to her mouth, I saw a smile spreading across her face.

  Before she had a chance to even think, I started talking. “Skylar, I know we’re young, and we haven’t been together for very long. But I know in the deepest part of my soul that you’re the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. The one I want to have children with. The one I want to sit on a front porch with someday when we’re so old that we probably won’t even remember our names, but we’ll always know we were meant to be together.”

  When I saw a tear slowly roll down her face, my hands started shaking. Shit! Shit! Shit!

  “I’ve already asked your dad for your hand in marriage, Sky. My goal in this world is to always keep you happy and safe. I’m not asking that we run right out and get married. I promised your dad we’d wait until after college, but… but… if you would do me this honor, and…”

  My throat felt like it was closing up, and I couldn’t talk. My hands were shaking, and I just knew I had beads of sweat rolling down my face.

  I tried again to ask her, and I felt tears building in my eyes. “Um…” I had to get my heart rate under control.

  Skylar dropped to her knees in front of me and put her hands on my face. The moment she touched me, I was instantly calmed.

  “Sky, will you do me this honor and accept my proposal of marriage? I’d like to give you my grandmother’s ring.”

  The tears were now falling like rain down her face. She smiled so big as she let out a giggle.

  Shit… is that a good sign or a bad sign?

  She started nodding her head as she moved closer to me. “Yes! Oh god, yes, Wyatt! I want nothing more than that.”

  I felt tears rolling down my face as I smiled at her. I got the ring out of the box and gently took her hand in mine. I placed the ring on her finger and smiled. My parents had said if it were a perfect fit, that was a good sign. It meant we would be together for all eternity.

  Fits like a glove.

  I pulled her closer to my body and kissed her. At first, it was a slow, sweet kiss, but it quickly became a more passionate and heated kiss. Skylar started to take off my jacket, and then she undid the buttons on my shirt. She pushed the shirt off my shoulders and began kissing my neck and down my chest. I gulped in air and held my breath as she sucked on one nipple and then the other.

  She made her way back up to my lips and gently bit down on my lower lip. I wanted to move slowly, but she was driving me crazy. I pulled her up to a standing position as I moved my hands to take off her dress. As I let it fall to the floor, I took in the sight in front of me. She was dressed in a red-and-black lace bra and matching panties.

  I could hardly breathe. “So damn beautiful.”

  She smiled and put her face down. Taking my finger, I placed it under her chin and gently pulled her face up. Her cheeks were flushed, and she was looking everywhere but at me.

  I started to walk her back to the bed. The back of her legs hit the mattress, causing her to stop. I reached down, picked her up, and gently laid her on the bed. I began moving my hands all over her body as I kissed every i
nch of exposed skin.

  I loved how her body was reacting to my touch and to my lips on her skin. I continued to kiss her until she was practically ready to jump off the bed.

  “Oh god, Wyatt. Please… don’t tease me like this.”

  “I just want to touch you, Sky… to feel how my touch affects your body.”

  “Please…” she begged.

  I stood up and took off the rest of my clothes. We’d seen each other naked before, but this… this was like seeing her for the first time. I watched her eyes take in every square inch of my body. My dick was so hard that I thought I was going to explode.

  I crawled back on the bed and slowly started to slide off her panties. “Sit up, Sky.”

  Skylar sat up, and I reached behind her and unclasped her bra. Moving it off of her, I had to catch my breath at the sight of her body.

  She’s going to be mine—only mine. No one will ever hurt her again. I’ll die before I let someone hurt her.

  I moved over her body and gently kissed her stomach, making my way up to each nipple.

  “Jesus, Wyatt! I feel like I could come with just your kiss.”

  I smiled as I thought about the numerous times I’d made her come with my lips and my fingers. I loved making her come. I slowly put my hand on her stomach, causing her to jump. I slid my hand down and spread her legs open wider. I reached my fingers to her folds, and I gently put two fingers inside her.

  I was overcome with passion. “Fuck, Sky. You’re so wet.”

  She bucked her hips into my hand. “Yes!”

  I wanted her to come with me inside her, so I moved up her body. I used my tip to tease her entrance. I started to move slowly and gently into her. She grabbed my hair with both hands and let out a moan that about had me coming on the spot.

  “So. Tight. Baby… you’re so tight.”

  “Move, Wyatt… oh god… please move!”

  I didn’t want to hurt her, so I tried my best to go inch by inch. She slammed her hips up against my body, and I entered her in one swift move.
