“I’m pretty confident about all this.”

“As you should be,” he said. “That brain of yours is pretty awesome, too.”

“Well, I mean, I am no ventriloquism aficionado or carrying around centuries old techniques in my head on doll repair, but I can work my way around a solid piece of well-shaped wood,” she said trying to turn his seat. Giving up, she instead used her well-toned arms to move the dining table.

“May I, Scott?” she asked, reaching for him.

He turned his body to face her, giving her full access. She reached for him, opening the lounge pants, letting the erection which lay against his thigh out for air. Taking again to her knees in front of him, she shocked herself at being so willing to take him into her mouth. It wasn’t her thing. Normally she took no pleasure from having a man’s instrument on her tongue, but this one, she liked. Licking the base of the shaft, her tongue ran up the flesh, getting to tip, flicking it over the pink tipped mushroom head, and then covering it with her mouth. She listened to the unevenness of his breath.

“You are always so cool and collected aren’t you, Scott?”

“I have to be. Especially when I am around highly excitable people, I have learned to stay calm,” he said.

“I’m about to break that calm,” she said as she gripped the shaft, closing her lips over him, creating a vacuum and sucking.

His mouth made an O. She sucked harder as he lifted his hips off the seat. Her free hand cupped his scrotum, massaging gently as her head moved up and down until the uneven breathing turned to panting. She was wet and ready. Coming to her feet, her ass stuck up in the air as she maneuvered her body to straddle him in the chair.

Scott reached for a cloth napkin to place between them. He’d noticed, earlier in the morning, the red rash on her torso and back from his body hair. He wanted to protect her delicate skin.

“I will put this between us,” he tried to say, but the force of her slamming her hips into him as she connected their bodies was too much for him to handle. He dropped the napkin. “You sure you don’t want me to try and protect your skin..., oh, shit.”

“No, feeling all this fur against my nipples is so very erotic. It’s like fucking my own giant teddy bear with a really big...oh my God,” she cried out as she pumped her hips against him.

“You turn me on, Scott Berger. You turn me on so much, I can barely...,” her words were lost as she worked her hips.

Scott’s cool demeanor was lost as he allowed himself to let go, put down all the restrictions he placed carefully around his heart, and give in. He stood, her legs wrapped around his waist, his pants falling to his ankles, hobbling his way to the couch. He half sat, partially leaned back giving her more room to work.

“Did I mention I used to do gymnastics?” she asked as he stretched her legs into a full Chinese split. Her hips bounced up and down on him as she used her arms to brace her weight on his abdomen.

“Oh wow,” she said. “Wow! So, so, good.”

Scott held onto to her waist, bringing his hips upwards each time she came down. Zelda couldn’t stop herself from squealing in delight as the pace they set brought her quickly to her first orgasm.

“Harder, Scott, please, just a little bit harder,” she pleaded with him.

Holding her waist, he gripped her tightly, thrusting upwards with power, directness, and the perfect aim for her g-spot as she let out a long low howl, finding her second orgasm. Shifting slightly, he used his hands on her bottom, lifting and dropping her bottom like it was an arm curl weight against him, filling her until it felt like he would pop.

So much heartache, based on his looks.

So many of these moments which always came to nothing, but she wanted to see him again after this. She had given him all of her numbers. Next month, he would take her on a date. All of these ideas he let roam through his mind to stave off the giant release that he was trying fervently to slow down.

“Give it to me,” she moaned in his ear. Coming to her knees, she was at the perfect angle to feel all of him and he didn’t hold back. He thrust upwards hard and she went limp against him.

“I’m ready, Zee. So ready...,” he said sucking on the side of her neck, pumping his hips, thrusting upwards, driving it home. He grunted, his seed filling the condom she slipped on him before connecting their bodies. “Damn,” he said holding her tight, afraid to let her go.

She collapsed against his hairy body. “I need a cigarette and I don’t even smoke,” she told him.

“Between last night and now, I need an electrolyte boost,” he said laughing.

“Scott, you make me so frickin’ hot. I can’t believe how my body is reacting to you. It feels so...wow,” she said. “Please, if I start turning into one of your stalkers stop me.”

“You can stalk me, have me, put me on a leash for all I care, you are simply...,” he started.

  “What, spectacular”

“No, amazing. Thank you,” he said.

“Shit,” she told him, snuggling her face into his neck. “It’s me that should be thanking you. I am good until I see you next month.”

“You have to go, don’t you?”

“Yes, I have an interview in thirty minutes, then I need to get to the airport. I won’t get to see you before I go, but I will call you when I land,” she told him.

“Okay,” he said, a sense of emptiness coming over him. “I miss you already and you aren’t even gone.”

“The feeling is mutual,” she told him.

Zelda reluctantly pulled away. Officially, they had not kissed and she wasn’t sure she wanted to, but feelings were swirling around her and the connection was solid. She puckered up and leaned forward and their lips met briefly.

“I will call you from Houston tonight,” she told him.

“Be safe,” he said, watching her gather her things and get dressed. Agile fingers waved at him as she slipped out the door, carrying her shoes in her hand. He was still on the couch with his junk hanging out, trying to get a grip on his emotions. So many false starts and false hopes of any woman loving him as he was without wanting to change him looks.

Zelda kissed him. Buck teeth and all, she puckered up and kissed him. The feel of his hair against her nipples she said she’d found erotic. That was the first time a woman ever, outside of a woman prone to loving fetishes, said something positive about the massive amounts of hair that covered him.

“Dear God, have I found the perfect woman for me?” he asked aloud. I sure as hell hope so.

  Chapter 10

  Thursday Mid-Morning

It was 11 am and Zelda, packed and ready to go, stood at the doorway of the hotel, waiting for her cab to arrive. In the last two hours, she’d managed to interview three additional people and a few of the hotel staff and get some shots of the conference attendees. Everything needed for her job was complete, however, for her personally, she was missing something.

The night she’d spent with Scott was amazing. He’d given to her exactly what she needed to feel like a woman. A stupid thought entered her mind that she really didn’t give him what he needed to feel like a man. Sure, she complimented him on pleasing her sexually, but truly, had she done enough to let him know he was appreciated? It bothered her to her core that he didn’t think she was going to call.

Something Pip said to her about it being a challenge to the women at the conference to get him into bed. He’d told her about the two of the three women who had broken his heart. The third she knew was the doozy and she didn’t want to know about her. At least not yet anyway.

Michael, her brother, once dated a woman she sincerely considered to be the dumbest woman on the planet. When she asked her brother why such a smart man like him would want that kind of a woman, he said, “Simple. She makes me feel like a man.”

Zelda turned to the concierge. “I have forgotten something, I will be right back,” she told him. Her luggage she left at his side as she took long strides, heading back into the conference. Pip was by
the entryway, looking around.

“There you are, Zelda! I was looking for you to say goodbye and to tell you about my night,” Persephone said.

“It will have to wait, Sweetie. I need to find Scott and then catch my flight to Houston,” she told her.

“Oh, he just started teaching,” she said to Zelda.

  “Where? Which room?”

“The large one over there, and it is packed, too,” she said to Zelda.

Reaching into her purse, Zelda grabbed a business card and handed it to Persephone. “Call me later, okay?”

She didn’t hear anything else Pip said as she made her way across the hall into the large room. It was indeed packed to gills. Scratching her head, she knew it would be impossible to make it to the front of the room to say goodbye to him or even to get a kiss unless there was a break, but Pip said he was just starting. For the damnedest reason, she wanted to kiss him goodbye.

I’m going to do it, too.

  How?

Scott commanded the attention of everyone in the room as he spoke from the stage, his voice booming with authority. The conference goers were transfixed on his handling of the dolls. Zelda, standing in the walkway, raised her hand to ask a question.

In her royal blue jacket, she stood out in the crowd as she moved down the center aisle.

“I have a question, Mr. Berger,” she said.

He looked up from holding Danny. He was repairing his nose and oiling the wooden body.

“Yes, Ms. Fitzsimmons?” He said with no expression on his face.

“Is Danny your favorite doll?” she asked.

“No, he is not. I am partial to him, though, since he is an antique and special to my family,” he said.

Zelda continued walking down the aisle coming closer to him. “I see how you are taking extra special care with him, oiling him, caring for him with love,” she said.

“I do try to take care of my things,” he said, trying not to smile as she reached the bottom of the stage.

“Really? I don’t seem to recall you kissing me goodbye today before I get on my plane. Is that how you like to take care of your things?”

He smiled unwillingly, his cheeks red from being put on the spot in a room full of customers, constituents, and leaders in the field.

“Ms. Fitzsimmons, you are not a doll,” he said flatly.

“That is not what you told me over dinner, Mr. Berger,” she said, rounding the stage. The crowd responded with oohs and aahs, watching the entire scene unfold. Measured steps were taken as she climbed the stairs, coming onto the stage.

“This is not the time nor place, Ms. Fitzsimmons,” he said looking at her through the thick-rimmed glasses.

“Well when, Mr. Berger? My cab is waiting, my flight is in less than an hour...,” she said, looking at the crowd. “What must a girl do to get a kiss from her big, strong fella before she travels all day?”

The audience began to chant, “Kiss her! Kiss her! Kiss her!”

She stood in front of him as someone in the control booth turned the spotlight on them. Zelda flashed him a giant smile. “Are you going to kiss a girl or what?”

“I guess I will have to, but we are going to talk about this awkward position you’ve put in me, Zee,” he told her.

“You can feel free to let me have it when you get to Houston,” she told him slipping her arms around his neck.

Scott removed his glasses, placing them carefully on the table. One hand was on the small of her back, sliding upward, pulling her close to him. Zelda raised her face, ready for his kiss as he lowered his head, his soft lips making contact with hers, his bucked teeth, clicking against her two front teeth. Gently, he inserted the tip of his tongue into her mouth, flicking the end as his lips moved over hers. He pulled back and kissed the tip of her nose, adding an additional smack to her lips before letting her go.

“Call me when you land,” he told her, as he held her hand, guiding her to the steps. She didn’t see him pick up his glasses as she escorted her down the stairs, the crowd cheering and chanting. Scott raised his hand and a tall thin black man walked over.

“Please drive Ms. Fitzsimmons to the airport, Chandler,” he told the man.

He didn’t look back as he climbed the stairs to stand in front of the table. The crowd, rowdy now, asked questions about him and Zelda. Scott’s heart pounded in his chest as he tried to get a grip on himself.

She’d come to say goodbye to me.

At first, he was worried that she would leave and he wouldn’t see her again until next month, yet here she was very publicly, in front of everyone, including his parents and sister who were in the crowd, asking him to kiss her. It felt as if twelve additional wiry hairs had sprung out on his chest and he was the man of the hour. He coughed a bit, one to clear his throat and two to pull back the emotions.

“Spectacular,” he said aloud to himself. To the crowd, he said, “Settle down, you bunch of nosy busybodies.”

“Seems like you are the one settling down old man!” someone in the back of the room yelled.

“About time!” an older woman in the corner added.

“Enough already. Let’s get back to work. We were discussing the epoxy and resins used to repair chips, breaks, and damages to porcelain and wood faces using Danny as an example,” he said. Not missing a beat, he continued the training from where he stopped when Zelda interrupted him.

His father, Jacob Berger, sat with his arms folded, concerned that yet another too aggressive, too progressive woman was going to break his son’s heart again. He feared that if he experienced another heartbreak like the last one, his poor Scottie would not recover. Later today, he would hire someone to find out more about the young woman.

Krista Burger also paid very close attention to everything she was seeing. She didn’t know who the young woman was, but she made a point of putting every woman in the room on notice that Scott was off the market. The young woman did so at the expense of humiliating herself had her son not reciprocated. However brief the kiss, she knew her son. He was impacted by the young woman’s actions.

Scott’s chest stood out a little further.

Every man in the room watched the very attractive young woman declare her affection for Scott in a room full of his peers.

She leaned over to her husband Jacob. “I like her already.”

Scott sat at the table, glancing at his watch. Her plane left an hour ago, but he wasn’t certain how long the flight was from Kentucky to Houston. He wanted to check but he was having lunch with his parents, cousin, and two sisters.

“Scottie,” Sarah, the oldest of the three Berger children called his name. “Who is this woman who shamelessly made out with you on stage during the middle of your training?”

“Geez, Sarah,” Rebekah his younger sister exclaimed. “It wasn’t shameless. He had just started the presentation and it was only a kiss. Evidently, our little brother failed to kiss his lady friend goodbye and she came to collect. I think it is terribly romantic!”

His head was down as he waited for the scorn from his father for falling in with a woman he’d met at a conference.

“I’m curious, Scott, what does she do?” Krista, his mother asked.

“She is a journalist. She writes for Hobbyist Magazine. She is doing a feature story on The Vent,” he said.

“You’ve been seeing this woman for some time?” His father asked.

For the first time in his forty years, he was tempted to lie to his father. Instead, he took a different tact. “Father, can we keep my private life private please?”

“Evidently not! She made your relationship very public by kissing you in front of everyone you know, work with, interact with, and employ,” Jacob said.

“Good, now you all know. I am seeing Zelda Fitzsimmons, a writer for Hobbyist Magazine. Oh yeah, she’s black,” he said.

Sarah spoke up, “Do you think that is wise?”

  “What? Because she’s black?”

  “Well, there is t
hat...but I am talking about you. Being so fragile,” she said.

“I am not fragile and I am a grown ass man. So what if have gotten my heart stomped on a couple or three times. Life goes on as will I, but I am not going to hide in my home with my only conversations being with the four of you and a bunch of dolls,” he said.

Rebekah leaned forward, “Do you call her your doll?”

“No, I call her Spectacular,” he said with a smile. He shook his head and laughed.

  “How romantic,” Rebekah said.

“You’re an idiot, Bekah! She is an opportunist! Everyone can see that!”

“I can’t,” said Scott. “You think she’s an opportunist because I’m ugly?”

“You aren’t ugly, son. You are the most handsome young...,” Krista said.

“You have to say it Mom, but please don’t. I’ve waited a long time. I have been careful and I am thinking she is it. Time will tell, but right now, this feels good and it feels right, and I’m going to go for it. If I land on my face again I do so with a clear understanding of what I am walking into. There are no rose colored glasses this time. I’m hairy, half blind, with buck teeth. She walked on that stage in front of everyone and kissed me. That earns her more stock in my heart than anything,” he told them.

  “Just be careful,” Jacob cautioned.

“I will not. I am going into it giving her everything I have. Either she will love me as I am, or not. That’s all I got,” he said. “It will have to be enough.”

  Chapter 11

  Thursday Early Evening

The flight from Kentucky to Houston took a little over two and a half hours and embarkation took longer than she’d hoped, trapping her in afternoon traffic. Her rule was never to talk on the phone when she drove, even though she longed to call Scott to let him know she’d made it safely to Houston. At a quarter till five, she pulled into the office, tired, somewhat frustrated, and ready to eat a small elephant.

Harold Letterman, her boss, stood in her office doorway as she took a seat. The man didn’t even give her an opportunity to exhale before pelting her with pesky questions.
