Silent Suspect: A completely gripping crime thriller with edge-of-your-seat suspense (Detective Jessica Daniel thriller series Book 13)

by Kerry Wilkinson

Littered throughout the Jessica books are ongoing stories around the individual cases. Some relate to her work; others to her personal life. The first seven books – ‘season one’ – told an arc of her growing up and ultimately being promoted. Books eight to thirteen are ‘season two’ ... and so it’s here that many of Jessica’s side stories are tied up.

I’ve been wanting to get Jessica out of Manchester for a little while. Blackpool has fascinated me since the time I first visited. It could, perhaps should, be a central pillar of Britain’s tourist industry. A place used by the country to sell itself worldwide.

And yet… it isn’t. When Jessica thinks of there being two Blackpools – the shiny, touristy front, and the neglected, gritty behind – that’s me creeping into the book. As a city, it’s an incredible sandbox in which to tell some stories. I hope I’ve done it a bit of justice here. Blackpool is in one of my other books, Ten Birthdays, and I’m probably a bit kinder to it there. If you’ve never visited, you definitely should. It’s pure Britain… at least it is for me.

Either way, this is the end of Jessica’s second ‘season’ – which means it all begins again with book fourteen. It’ll be coming soon.

  Cheers for reading.
