“Hmm, is that so?” She slid her hand over his firm butt and squeezed, feeling his reaction in his cock. She grinned. “You like that, huh?” She did it again, and felt him thicken.
“Yes,” he growled, slowly sliding from her. “We can’t do that again right now. I don’t want to hurt you.”
Caressing over his hip and butt with her fingers, she asked, “Is it too soon to tell you that I love you?”
He stilled and very slowly tipped her face up to his. “Say it again.”
She traced his lips with a finger and told him, “I love you. I think I have since the moment I met you in my garden.” She softly smiled. “You reminded me of a hero out of one of my books. Tall, dark and handsome with a sexy swagger of assurance. I want to be with you, Mikhail . . . but, I’m scared. I’m scared that your father will find us and take me away from you. I’m scared that my own father will also come after us. I’m just scared of what’s going to happen to us.”
“I’m not going to let anyone take you away from me because I love you. You’re my breath of fresh air and remind me of my mother’s favorite flower, the English Rose.” He smiled and brushed her hair behind her ear. “I want so badly to wake up tomorrow and know that everything is right in our world, but unfortunately that isn’t going to happen. Our fathers need to be dealt with.”
She frowned.
Mikhail added, “You know that your father owed a huge amount of money to the casino. My father must have had something to do with his tab being raised. Probably so he could sweep in and purchase you when your father desperately needed money. It’s the only way he could have worked it in his favor. It makes sense. I’m just not sure how to keep my father away from you because he won’t let it rest. He wants you . . . and now . . . he wants me.”
Sighing heavily, she rolled to her back and felt happy when Mikhail curled around her, one arm over her stomach and his head on her chest. She searched his gaze and suggested, “Does he have any, um, not all that legal dealings? Perhaps we could drop evidence somewhere. Give him something else to think about.”
“Hmm, I wish that was all it would take, but I don’t think anything will deter him. Once he sets his sights on something or someone there is no persuading him otherwise.”
“I don’t know what else to suggest.”
“I’ll think of something. Hugh might even have an idea.” He grinned and nuzzled between her breasts. “Bath,” he groaned, “before I forget all about it and love you with my mouth.” He covered one of her nipples and massaged it between tongue and the roof of his mouth before he let the distended peak slip between his lips. “Now.”
He rolled from the bed but not before she saw his cock jutting, hard and proud, from his body, and then she got a view of his firm butt as he padded into the bathroom.
She spread out on the bed knowing that her happiness was clouded with fear. Fear that his father would find them, hurting Mikhail so that he could keep her.
Chapter 14
The confirmation they’d been waiting all morning for had finally arrived: money had been transferred. The agreement between Konstantine Vasiliev and Vincent Gregory was now at an end. Mikhail had known that one day he’d have to call in favors, he just never expected the favor to be over a woman—a woman who had become everything to him.
But it was done, and his father had every cent owed to him by Vincent back in his account with interest. India was no longer a bargaining chip.
“So what’s next?” Hugh asked, standing with his hands on his hips waiting for Mikhail’s answer—an answer that he didn’t have.
Sighing heavily, he leant back against the sofa and put his feet on the coffee table. “We need a plan to get my father off both our backs. India suggested that we arrange for evidence against one of my fathers darker dealings to show up in the hands of law enforcement. I’m just not sure that would be enough to stop him from looking for us.” He shook his head. “His son has kidnapped the woman he is obsessed with. He isn’t going to stop until he’s taken her back and he’s shown his men how he punishes those who betray him. I’m his son so he can’t let it go. You know this.”
“Your father is an asshole,” Dimitri stated joining them at a much slower pace than usual.
Dimitri had taken one hell of a beating at the hands of his fathers men by the time he’d gotten to him, and it was a wonder that he was even alive.
Hugh quickly pulled a chair out at the kitchen table for Dimitri to sit, which he did, finally exhaling in relief. “I have a friend,” he started, “who will be able to help you out . . . and,” he looked first at Hugh and then him, “he’ll be out of your life for a very long time.”
“Yes,” Hugh answered.
Mikhail glanced at Hugh and noticed India leaning against the wall behind him. “Come here.” He held his hand out to her.
Once settled in his lap, he brushed the hair away from her forehead and asked Dimitri, “A legal way? I have no wish to jeopardize losing India.”
Dimitri nodded. “He’s with the Feds.”
Mikhail paused, thoughtful. “As are you?” he stated, quietly.
Dimitri blinked a few times and he laughed.
“You played along with my father, until you couldn’t any longer. You’re a Fed or in some kind of law enforcement, which works out good for us.”
“I owe you,” Dimitri said. “Which is why I’m going to use all resources at my disposal to make sure you, India, and Hugh are safe from your father . . . but, we have to be on the same page.” He glanced at both Hugh and him. “There’s no going back.”
“I discovered a long time ago that he isn’t the father that I thought he was.”
India caressed his jaw and laid her palm against his cheek. “I’m your family now,” she whispered against his lips before she wrapped her arms around his neck. “And you are mine.”
Her words aroused him to the point of pain as she wiggled her bottom against him. His arms tightened around her hips and held her still while he tried to gain some control in order to continue with the conversation that suddenly went off track and on to more pleasurable things.
Hugh cleared his throat and with a smirk, said, “Whatever it takes we’ll do it, Dimitri. I want to make sure that my family is protected though. They don’t have the resources that Vasiliev has.”
“Agreed,” Dimitri stated.
As Dimitri continued to discuss plans Mikhail’s mind was on the woman in his lap as he held his breath waiting to see where her hand was wandering between them. When the tips of her fingers brushed over the head of his cock, he shuddered, releasing precum. His body felt tightly wound and if they didn’t get out of the room he was going to be releasing a lot more . . .
“We need a minute,” he blurted, stopping all conversation as he stood with India in his arms.
Ignoring the chuckles behind them, he slammed into the bedroom and tugged India’s leggings and panties down. Dropping to his knees, he kissed her mound and then dipped his tongue into the deliciously wet folds of the woman he loved. Her taste burst on his tongue, making his dick so hard that he was about to come without restraint.
Her hands gripped his shoulders and the little noises she made hit him in the balls.
“Fuck!”
Quickly standing, he shoved his jeans past his hips and grabbed India in his arms. He held her against the wall and slid all the way inside of her wet heat. She moaned and pulsed around him, driving his arousal higher and higher.
“Please tell me that you’re not in any discomfort.” He should have asked before now, but better asking before he pumped her full of his seed again because right now he was unable to go slow.
“I’ll hurt you if you don’t finish what you’ve started.”
He grinned, and quickly inhaled when she tightened her legs around his waist and raised herself up before dropping back down.
Grabbing her ass, he held her still while he panted for breath. “Need a minute,” he muttered, clamping his jaws together when she rip
pled along his dick. “I’m about to lose it.”
“Fuck me, Mikhail.” She growled, and used the fingers that she had in his hair to bring his face closer as she sealed her lips over his.
He was so gone.
His hips started moving and gradually he started to fuck her fast and hard, his cock the hardest it had ever been. The wetness of India had his balls so tight that the minute he felt her pussy ripple and convulse on him, he came. His release was so powerful that his legs threatened to give way.
India directed his mouth to one of her breasts where he bit the tight bud through her shirt and bra. It was a livewire straight to her pussy as she squeezed him so hard that he saw stars from the pleasure and he took them to the floor where his cock released one last long burst of semen.
“I can’t,” he moaned. “Oh, God.” He ended up flat on his back while India sat astride him.
He was hard in minutes, but he didn’t have the strength to move, even when she removed her shirt and bra.
She offered him a secretive smile as her hands went into her hair and she started to undulate on him. His breath became hotter, heavier within minutes . . . the week continued pretty much the same but they did make time for the discussions with Dimitri and the feds.
Chapter 15
Sitting cuddled against Mikhail while Hugh drove them into the city, India’s heart beat rapidly. She was nervous about what was going to happen next and the tension within the vehicle had everyone just about ready to explode.
Dimitri’s idea was for him to take them in with him so that they were protected from Mikhail’s father. She felt apprehensive though because they trusted a man who until last week was in the employ of Vasiliev, or so they had thought. It was confusing and she wished that she could go back to the time that life was peaceful and simple. Go back to the rose garden and to be able to meet Mikhail all over again without his father and hers being in the equation.
That wouldn’t happen though and as the cars drove into the underground parking lot of the Federal building her anxiety climbed and only settled when Mikhail intertwined his fingers with hers. “It’s going to be okay, India. Once this is done and I’ve told them everything I know and where they can get physical evidence against him, we’re out of here.” He kissed her cheek. “I promise.”
“I’m still worried. He’s a powerful man, your father. Once this is done what’s to say he won’t send someone after us.”
Dimitri cleared his throat. “That won’t happen. Word on the street is that Konstantine Vasiliev has gone past his expiry date. Things have changed from twenty, thirty years ago, and Vasiliev doesn’t like change. The others do.” He winced as he turned to face them from the front seat. “When Vasiliev is gone there will be new power . . . unfortunately for us. But trust me, anyone who is still loyal to Vasiliev will fall with him.”
Mikhail wrapped her in his arms and the scent of his cologne relaxed her and she felt as though she could breathe. She kissed his chest before moving slightly away. “I’m okay now.”
He quickly kissed her lips before taking her hand again. “Let’s get this over with.”
Armed agents stood close to their vehicle and once they opened the door all hell broke lose.
The sound of gunfire splintered the air the noise so loud that she was sure that she’d be hearing it in her sleep for a long time to come.
Mikhail took her to the ground and covered her with his body while Dimitri knelt directly in front of her head providing cover fire. With her face pushed into the ground, she braved opening her eyes and let out a strangled cry. On the other side of the car, lying bloody and still, was Hugh.
She tried to scramble and get to him, but Mikhail wasn’t moving from her. He put his mouth directly to her ear and whispered, “Stop moving. They’re not getting you.”
“Hugh’s not moving,” she cried, tears falling down her face. “We have to help him.” No sooner had her words left her mouth than quiet descended.
No one knew quite what to do, glancing at each other until Dimitri slowly stood and shouted for the other agents to move forward.
“Don’t move yet,” Mikhail whispered. “I’m going to crawl around the front of the car to Hugh, but I can only do that if you promise not to raise your head.”
“I promise.”
“Good girl.” He kissed her on the curve of her neck before he crawled off her and around to Hugh.
Even from her position she could see that he was hurt badly. She fixated on the slow rise and fall of Hugh’s chest, and what she presumed was Mikhail’s T-shirt was pressed against where he’d been shot.
“It’s clear,” Dimitri said. “Are you hurt anywhere?” He helped her up from the floor and quickly glanced her over.
She shook her head. “No.” Her voice wobbled and her hands shook as she looked behind her.
“Don’t.” Dimitri turned her away. “Don’t look. It isn’t a pleasant sight.” He directed a colleague, “They need help.” He pointed to Hugh and Mikhail.
“Who did this?” she asked, but she knew.
Dimitri held her gaze as she continued, “All this bloodshed because one man refuses to go down quietly.”
Dimitri’s mouth tightened into a thin line of anger. “The man had already gone too far, but this time he’s hit the Feds on home turf.” He shook his head and took her arm, leading her toward Mikhail.
Mikhail stepped away from Hugh when the medics arrived, and quickly took her into his arms, holding her so tightly she could hardly breathe. “My father is going to die for this.”
She stayed silent knowing he was venting and soothed him with long caresses back and forth along his back.
“Is Hugh going to be okay?” she asked as the medics got him ready to be moved.
“We need to get him to the hospital and into theatre. Only time will tell.”
They’d have to be satisfied with that.
“Dimitri, he’s going to need protection from here and while he’s in the hospital.” Mikhail stared at the agent.
“Reynolds,” Dimitri shouted.
The agent jogged over. “What do you need?”
“I need you to go in the ambulance with Hugh and to protect him while he’s there. Take your partner with you, and I’ll sort out a rotation.”
Reynolds nodded and disappeared.
“He’ll be in good hands,” Dimitri reassured while he kept glancing at his cell.
“Are you okay?” Mikhail whispered in her ear. “I hated to leave you.”
She shook her head. “No, don’t say that. You had to leave me to help Hugh.” Reaching up, she kissed him on the lips and hovered. “He’s your best friend, Mikhail. I wasn’t hurt. He was. You did the right thing so don’t keep thinking about it.”
He leaned his forehead against hers. “Two agents are dead because of me. Another was injured and Hugh is hanging on by a thread and it’s all because of me.”
“No.”
“Yes. I’m the one my father wanted dead. That’s why those gunmen waited.”
“Yes!” Dimitri shouted and he grinned when he met their gaze. “Vasiliev is in custody. The asshole tried to run, but we were ready.” He nodded at Mikhail before urging them toward the elevators.
She frowned. “What was that about?”
“I may have told Dimitri a few places that my father would likely run to before he tried to leave the country. I suggested one place above the others.” He shrugged. “Dimitri wants us to follow him.”
“If they manage to get something on him for today then you won’t need to testify against him, right? I mean, I know they promised to try and keep you out of it, but I didn’t see how that was possible. Not if they wanted a tight conviction.”
“I don’t know what would have happened, but now, they may not need us, which is what I’m hoping. I want to be able to walk out of here with you and to go to the hospital to Hugh. I want us to have a life far, far away from here.”
“That might happen sooner rather than later
,” Dimitri commented. “One of your fathers men is talking. They can’t shut him up.” Dimitri grinned. “We have him good.”
She watched Mikhail closely while he held Dimitri’s gaze. He’d wanted his freedom for a long time and it was finally happening for the both of them. Part of him felt that it was too good to be true.
“Don’t look so worried. We’ve got him and he knows it,” Dimitri said, a smirk on his face.
Wrapping an arm tightly around Mikhail’s waist, she leaned against his chest, and asked, “We’ll be able to leave soon, right? If you have him and get a statement out of him,” she glanced at one of his father’s men, who had been captured and was now in handcuffs, “you won’t need Mikhail.”
“That’s what I’m hoping.” Dimitri sighed. “He’ll be taken inside and interviewed, and yes, I’m hoping that someway he’ll confess to today’s events. What happened here is enough to send him away for a very long time.” He pressed a button to take them up into the Federal building. “My boss is going to want to talk to you both before anything else.”
Epilogue
Twelve months later
Nerves tickled in India’s belly as she slipped her feet into flat brown leather boots that matched her cream and beige tea dress. It settled smoothly above her knees, which allowed Mikhail to admire her legs.
As though her thoughts had conjured him up, he stepped behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist while his chin rested on her shoulder. His hands rubbed over the slight swell of her three month pregnant stomach. “How are you feeling, Mrs. Voss?” He kissed her on the curve of her neck as her hand reached up and caressed the side of his face.
“I’m nervous,” she admitted. “I didn’t think that I would have the chance of a happy life with the man I love.” She sighed and turned in Mikhail’s arms and wrapped hers around his neck. “Even after we left the Federal building all those months ago, I still didn’t believe we’d be safe to have a life together. And, as bad as this sounds, it wasn’t until five months ago when your father was killed, that I really started to believe that we’d be safe.”
