“Good, I’m in the mood for some Italian.”
“As long as it’s not men.” They laughed as they left.
They were quickly seated in a cozy corner. Sandra looked over the menu as the waitress came by with the wine list. So many choices. Luckily, they were in no hurry.
“Just the calamari for now,” Sean said. The waitress left and Sandra put down her menu, still unable to decide.
“So, what’s the special occasion?” she asked.
“Well,” Sean started, then looked at Patrick, who nodded. “We wanted to cement our relationship.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, and not just with us making love and saying we love you, but with something more tangible,” Patrick continued.
“I see.”
“Here, maybe this will help,” Sean said. They took three small velvet boxes from their back pockets. Sean had one and Patrick had two. “Open your hand.”
Sandra did so, and the guys opened the boxes. Sandra laid eyes on three diamond rings, each with an interesting shape.
“Will you marry us?” Patrick asked, taking out one of the rings.
Sandra didn’t even flinch. This whole thing seemed as normal as any other relationship. She loved both of these men and she wouldn’t know what her life would be without either one of them. So her answer was easy.
“Yes, I’ll marry both of you.”
Patrick took her hand and placed his ring on her finger. “Now you take your ring and slip it on right behind it.”
She did, and it fit like a puzzle. Sean then took her hand and slipped his ring on. It locked into place with the other two. All three rings together made one big sparkling band.
“This is beautiful,” Sandra said, holding the ring up to the light.
“These rings symbolize our love for each other. A love we hope will last a lifetime,” Sean said holding her hand.
“We pledge ourselves to you,” Patrick said holding her other hand. “We realize that a union like this is not socially recognized, so this has to be just between us. But we know you belong to us, and we belong to you, even if no one else knows.”
“I understand fully, and I pledge myself to you two,” Sandra said as she squeezed their hands.
“Hey, what’s going on here?” the waitress asked as she sat down their plate of calamari.
“I just got engaged,” Sandra cried, holding up her hand.
“Congratulations! To who?”
“The most perfect men in the world.” Sandra pointed to Sean and Patrick. “Them.”
