“Sweetheart, we have a lot in common. Better get that ring on your finger mighty quick. Something to match your collar.” He fingered the loop of platinum.

“I never would have thought I’d be collared by a cowboy,” she giggled. “Boy, what a wild ride, huh?”

“Come Saturday, we’re going to Dallas. We’ll head to Omar’s new jewelry showroom and pick out a ring.” Whatever she wanted, as long as it was his ring on her finger. Hell, if she wanted a red wedding dress, he’d bust out laughing all the more, because his little warrior bride would be wearing the darn thing.

“The artist who created my collar. Can’t wait,” she sighed.

He set her down, ready to call it a day in Paris, and head on back to Evermore. “Anything you see that you want? I can’t think of a thing we need.” He walked to the bedroom doors and stuck his head inside. There were boxes stacked on top of boxes. “I’m going to strangle one bartender.”

  “Because..?” she asked.

“I told Sam to get rid of the extra stuff that was getting waterlogged last month and look what he did.”

She glanced over his shoulder. “Maybe he knew you wouldn’t be using this room again.”

  “Maybe,” he said, unconvinced.

Penrose knocked on the doorframe. “So, this is it?”

“Yep.” Brandon dug into his pocket for his set of keys. “The upstairs is cleared out.”

“I’d move there if I didn’t have the kids,” Pen said. “You hear, the Humphreys are offering refinancing on all loans. I went down and they reworked mine. Lower payments, and even gave me a pretty sweet construction deal, too. But I don’t know.”

Brandon refused to comment on anything associated with that family. Especially in the arena of banking. “Still thinking of changing the venue into something more mainstream?”

“Not so sure. I don’t need any more headaches, and I was talking with Tony. He might be interested in opening a saloon. Pool, poker, and karaoke. It’s what the marketing genius I met with suggested. Easier than this stuff.”

“Simplifying. That I understand,” he said and held out his hand. “Good luck.”

“I won’t wish you luck. You’ve got love,” Penrose said, and winked over at Mia.

She stepped forward and held out her hand. “Thank you. If it weren’t for you, Brandon and I wouldn’t have met.”

Pen glanced down for a second. “It was fate. But with Brandon’s stubborn streak, I’m glad I was of help. See you guys around.”

“You’re coming to the wedding.” Mia said firmly.

Pen nodded his head. “Wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

Brandon took hold of Mia’s hand and led her down the hall. He looked up at the red light, and said “Hold on.” He reached up and unscrewed the light bulb, then pocketed the bulb inside his jacket. “We can use this at home.”

  “A red light?”

He unleashed one of his secretive smiles. “We’ll need something to alert the family when they should to stay the hell away.”

“Sir, you’re incorrigible,” she replied, laughing and squeezing his arm.

“Mia, my sweet surrender.” He drew her to him, tracing the edge of her mouth with his thumb, already envisioning their future at Evermore. “No point in arguing, darlin’. Let’s go home and I’ll show you how much.”
