  “I know,” Wendy said smiling.

Quinn let out the breath she was holding. “You believe me?”

“I trust you, Quinn.” Wendy gently kissed Quinn’s lips. “Her, not so much.”

Quinn let out a nervous chuckle.

“Have Adam make her delivery today.”

  Quinn nodded. “Okay.”

“I have other plans for you today.” Wendy looked at Tina. “If your mom can spare you for the rest of the afternoon.”

Tina moved forward. “Quinn is free to leave anytime she wants to.”

  “Mom, are you sure?”

“Yes, Cathy will be here soon. Go,” she pushed Quinn and Wendy toward the door.

“Thanks, Tina. I won’t make a habit of stealing Quinn from you now that I’m back,” Wendy said, taking Quinn’s arm.

“Have fun, girls,” Tina said with a wink.

“We will.” Wendy was laughing as the words left her mouth. She had big plans for Quinn for the rest of the day.

“Shoot me now,” Quinn said, lowering her head.

After the women reacquainted themselves, Wendy laid on Quinn’s shoulder and rubbed her fingers over her chest. “So how long has this Kristy been after you?”

“She’s not after me. She’s been friendly.”

“Yeah, I saw how friendly. As I came into the store, I saw where her hands were.”

“Kristy is just a touchy-feely person.”

“Well, she can touch and feel someone else.”

“Are you jealous?” Quinn asked with a laugh.

“Of course I am. She’s here and I’m not.”

“I don’t want anyone else, but you.” Quinn squeezed Wendy closer.

“Good, but stay away from her.” Quinn laughed. “Don’t you have someone you can introduce her to?” Wendy asked firmly.

“No. There’s no one here her age. Why do you think I was available when you came to town?”

“Is that the only reason that you’re with me? Because there was no one else.” Wendy sat up and covered herself with the sheet.

Quinn giggled. “Yes, Wendy. That’s why I’m with you.” She laughed again. “You’re a horrible person, but as you said there was no one else.”

  “What?”

Quinn turned on her side and put her arm across Wendy. “I love you, Wendy. There can never be anyone else for me. No one.” She kissed Wendy softly. “Do you hear me?”

“Yes.” Wendy grinned. “Show me how much.”

“With pleasure.” Quinn flipped the sheet over her head and crawled down Wendy’s body.

  CHAPTER THIRTY ONE

Wendy was back on the road promoting the film she made with Brad and Julia. The three of them were scheduled to be on The Ellie Davis Show today. Wendy’s fear of leaving Quinn alone with Kristy had reared its ugly head every time she thought about it. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Quinn, but jealousy is an unpredictable emotion. Wendy picked up her phone and began to write a text.

“Hi, babe. Sitting with Brad and Julia waiting for our turn on the show. It will be aired on Friday’s show.

Quinn responded immediately. “Have a good time today and if you all play, ‘I have, or I have never’, be careful.”

“I have nothing to be embarrassed about. Only you and I know what a boring life I’ve led.”

Quinn laughed reading her text, and responded, “Are you saying we’re boring?”

“Never, babe. You are my only thrill in life.”

“For me too, honey. I love you.”

  “I love you, too.”

“Sorry, but I’ve got to go make a delivery.”

“IT BETTER NOT BE TO KRISTY.”

Quinn laughed. “Ha, ha. No, it’s not to Kristy. Haven’t seen her all week.”

“Good. Have a good day. We’ll talk tonight.”

  “Have fun, honey. Bye.”

  “Bye, babe.”

  ****

Quinn walked out to her truck, but before she could get inside the truck, Kristy was there.

“Hi, Quinn,” she said, moving closer to Quinn.

“Kristy.” Quinn opened the truck door. “I’ve got to make a delivery.”

“I noticed your girlfriend is out of town again. How about coming to my place for dinner tonight?”

Quinn let out a deep sigh. “Kristy, I told you I’m not interested in you. Why can’t you take no for an answer?”

Kristy touched Quinn’s arm. “Why can’t we have a good time while Wendy is away?”

“Because I’m not interested.” Quinn pulled her arm away. “If you don’t leave me alone, you can find somewhere else to shop.”

“What would your mother think of you turning away business?”

“She would think it’s a wonderful idea,” Tina said, standing on the loading dock. “You heard my daughter. She’s not interested in you. Leave her alone.”

Kristy grumbled before she stepped away from Quinn. “This isn’t over,” she said, before she walked away.

Quinn and Tina looked at each other. “Thanks, Mom.”

Tina laughed. “You might have to get a restraining order if things don’t change.”

Quinn laughed. “I don’t think it’s going to get that bad, Mom.”

“We will see, Quinn. Go make your delivery.”

  “See you later, Mom.”

  ****

Quinn was standing in the grocery store waiting in line for her turn to check out, when she looked at the rag papers sitting there. Her eyes opened wide when she recognized herself on the cover of one magazine. The headline read, when the cat is away, the mouse will play. Quinn picked up the paper and looked at the picture. Kristy was standing there with her arm on Quinn’s. She opened the paper and read the story. “What a crock,” Quinn said quietly. The article said that Quinn was dating this woman. It said Quinn had replaced Wendy with this woman. Quinn wondered if a paparazzi was in town or had one of the town folk taken that picture and sold it to the rag papers. The paper didn’t need a story to make up their own. Now Quinn worried if Wendy had seen the paper. She pulled out her phone and sent a text. “Please call me when you have time.”

Quinn took her groceries and went home. Tina showed up at her door a few minutes later, the magazine in her hand. “I saw it at the grocery store.”

“Did you talk to Wendy?” Tina asked, laying the magazine on the counter.

“I sent her a text to call me when she had time.”

“Wendy is not going to believe this story, Quinn. She knows they make up whatever stories they want.”

“Yeah, but we shouldn’t even have to be going through this. If Kristy would just leave me alone.”

“You think in Wendy’s line of work she doesn’t go through this?” Tina smiled. “I’m sure she is surrounded by rumors every day.”

Quinn’s phone began to ring. “It’s Wendy.”

“If she doesn’t believe you, let me know. I saw what went on with Kristy.”

  “Thanks, Mom. Hi, honey.”

  “Hey,” Wendy said softly.

From Wendy’s tone, she figured she saw the magazine. “It’s not true,” Quinn said firmly.

“I know, Quinn,” Wendy sighed. “I’m sorry that my career puts you in this position.”

“You’re worried about me?” Quinn asked, blinking her eyes.

“Of course, I am. I’m used to this crap, Quinn.”

  “Yeah, but because of me...”

Wendy didn’t let Quinn finish. “You did nothing wrong, Quinn. This woman is the problem. Not you. I did an interview today and they asked if you and I had broken up. Obviously, asking after seeing the magazine.”

“What did you tell them?” Quinn asked.

“I told them we are together and I have complete trust in you. That I knew Kristy and nothing was going on between the two of you.”

“Why can’t these people leave us alone?” Quinn asked sighing.

“Because the public likes to read crap like this. They want to hear ever
y detail of what our lives are like and if they think we’re having problems it makes them feel better. If you have fame and money, someone wants to tear you down because of that.”

“I love you, Wendy. So much.”

Wendy giggled. “I love you too, Quinn. I’ll be home by the weekend.”

  “Really?”

“Yep. I have one last day in New York doing promo work and then I’m on a plane home.”

“I love that you consider this home,” Quinn said softly.

“Because it is, Quinn. Where you are, will always be home.”

  EPILOGUE

“Would you stop fidgeting,” Wendy said, touching Quinn’s arm.

“I feel so uncomfortable.” Quinn tugged at the collar and tie she had on.

“You said for better or worse when we got married,” Wendy said giggling.

“Yeah, but I didn’t know the worse was going to be me wearing a monkey suit and going to the Golden Globes.”

“It could be worse. I could have made you wear a dress,” Wendy said with a smirk.

“Yeah, and you’d be sitting here by yourself.”

“Relax. After my category you can unbutton the shirt and loosen the tie.”

The limousine door opened and Quinn stepped out of the car and held her hand out for Wendy. She stepped out of the car to cheers from the fans that were in the stands.

“Look, there’s Ellie and Pat,” Wendy said pointing to the famous talk show host.

Quinn turned and saw them looking their way. Ellie waved them over. Ellie and Wendy hugged and Pat hugged her, too. Wendy turned to Quinn. “This is my wife, Quinn Waverly. Honey, you know Ellie and Pat.”

“It’s nice to meet you both,” Quinn said, shaking their hands.

Someone yelled from the crowd. “Can we get a picture with the four of you?”

Wendy reached for Quinn’s hand and pulled her next to her. The crowd took their pictures and Quinn stepped back while Ellie and Wendy signed autographs.

“Is this your first award show?” Pat asked.

“Yes, can you tell?” Quinn asked sighing.

“Just relax, Quinn. You’ll get used to this before award season is over.”

Wendy took Quinn’s hand again and led them to the reporters. Again Quinn stood back as Wendy gave her interview. A few minutes later, Julia Page was calling out to her. Julia hugged Quinn.

“You remember my wife, Rachel?” Julia asked, pulling Rachel closer.

“Of course. How are you, Rachel?”

Rachel smiled. “Good, Quinn.” She whispered in Quinn’s ear. “Relax.”

“I’m trying.” Quinn pulled at her tie again. She looked around seeing all these women in gowns and high heels and wondered how they did it. Even Julia and Rachel were in gowns.

The reporter called Julia over to where Wendy stood.

“I guess you’ve been to a lot of these shows?”

“Not really. Are you proud of Wendy for her nomination?” Rachel asked.

“I’m always proud of Wendy. With and without her nomination.”

Rachel chuckled. “Good answer. Use that if any of the reporters ask you.”

“They don’t want to talk to me,” Quinn said, tugging on her collar.

Rachel just smiled as they followed Wendy and Julia onto the next set of reporters.

Once they were seated at the table in the auditorium, Quinn began to relax. Then she scanned the crowd and felt star struck. She leaned toward Wendy. “There are so many stars in here.”

“I’ll introduce you to some people later. Is there anyone you would really like to meet?” Wendy asked, holding Quinn’s hand.

Quinn looked around before her eyes came back to Wendy. “I would like to meet Jennifer Davis.”

Wendy turned and looked at the beautiful blonde woman. “I could see you have a weakness for blondes.”

Quinn blushed and shrugged. “I love that film she did with John Harper.”

“Yeah, I’m sure it was the film,” Wendy said, shaking her head.

Quinn leaned over and put her hand on the back of Wendy’s chair. “You are the only blonde I want to go home with.”

“Good answer, Quinn,” the two women laughed.

The nominees for best actress are,” the announcer said as Quinn couldn’t hear anyone else except her wife’s name. “The Golden Globe goes to…” The envelope was opened. “Wendy Harris.”

Wendy didn’t move. “Honey, they called your name.” Wendy looked at Quinn and kissed her softly. Quinn watched as her wife made her way to the stage and was handed the award.

“Wow,” Wendy said, looking at the crowd. “I never expected to win,” she chuckled. Wendy went through her speech thanking the Hollywood Foreign Press and her co-stars and the director. Then she looked into the crowd and found Quinn’s eyes. “I couldn’t have done this without the love and support of my wife. I love you, Quinn.”

Quinn wiped her eye as a tear fell onto her cheek. She no longer thought about being uncomfortable in her clothes. All she could think about was how much her life had changed since she met Wendy. All the love she ever wanted in her life, she had with this woman. She made a vow to herself that she would do whatever Wendy needed to further her career. Even if it meant wearing a monkey suit for the woman she loved, because Wendy was worth it.
