Prophecy of the Female Warrior

“I am yours to command, my queen.” He kneeled before me and sliced through his palm.
“I vow here and now to end the feud between my brother, Eli and me. It will be my pleasure to serve my queen in every way she so desires.” He kissed my hand.
Oh, boy. He enjoyed that a little too much. He stepped to the side. Eli stood still as a statue. I wasn’t sure what was going on in his mind because this was the first time he had ever shielded from me.
“Annabelle, I request a minute alone with you.”
“I’ll consider it after you vow, Eli.”
“You don’t need my vow any longer. All of my men have sworn fealty to you.” “But if you still wish, I will give you my vow.” He knelt before me. “I will no longer harbor any ill will for my brother, Nyoka. I continue, as I have from the first moment I laid eyes on you Queen Annabelle, to forever be at your service.”
He stood as I nodded to Torch that I would speak alone with Eli and as soon as Torch gave the order to the men, they all began to leave. However, Nyoka stayed, not liking the idea of Eli being alone with me. I understood that, but it was no longer his place to decide.
“Nyoka, please give Eli and me a minute.”
“I will, but Anna, please remember your promise.” He turned and walked away.
“What promise did you make to him, Annabelle?” Eli’s eyes began to glow once more.
I leaned against the rock. Eli blew out a breath then sat down and leaned against my legs.
“He had Julie. He didn’t harm her, but she couldn’t cope being exposed to all of this. She broke down mentally. I was required to make a promise as payment for him restoring Julie. I promised that I would spend some time with him. He believes this will determine if the mating bond is actually with you or with him.”
He reached up and pulled me into his lap. “I was insane with jealousy when I found out you were here with him. I needed to feel you close to me again. I’m not myself when we are apart, Annabelle. I need you more than I was willing to admit.” He laid his head on my shoulder while I smoothed his hair. This hadn’t quite turned out like either of us had planned. Eli lifted his head. “Annabelle, would you make the same promise to me?”
I supposed he deserved that much at least. “Yes, I will spend some time with you.”
“Good. I want you to know that I will never stop coming for you. No matter what it takes, I will make you mine.” He spoke with such determination that I almost believed it was a done deal.
I sighed. “Now what?” I didn’t know what to do next.
He stood up and took my hand. “Now we go home.”
Epilogue
As we loaded onto the plane, I knew I was leaving the only place I had ever called home. I was also leaving behind the insecure, shy, young woman who never fit in anywhere, the woman who had been Joe’s wife. I would always love Joe. I now believed he had thought he was doing what was best for me.
I could also take comfort in knowing that my sister and her family were safe. Even though our lives took different paths, she would always be a part of me. She was my sister. I wasn’t closing the book on us forever, just putting it on hold for a while. I now embraced the new me, a powerful and confident woman with a purpose.
I thought of Dan, wondering where he was and praying he was coping well with his new life. We would meet again, of that I was sure.
I sat down in my seat between Elise and Torch who had become my permanent guard. He would go with me everywhere from now on. I chose him because I couldn’t very well have both Eli and Nyoka guarding me. That was a disaster just waiting to happen since we already had to shield our thoughts nonstop when the three of us were all together. They were even sitting at opposite ends of the plane, neither wanting me to fly with the other.
Elise handed me a bag of nuts. I smiled; it was good to be back with her again. We made a perfect team.
Elise leaned close to me and whispered in my ear. “You know, you’re gonna have to pick one sooner rather than later, right?”
I didn’t respond, but filled my mouth with nuts and began chewing. I wasn’t about to have this conversation right now.
“I have a great idea!” Elise began to giggle. She was cracking herself up again. I turned my head toward her. This was going to be good; I could already tell.
“We could host our own show: The Nephilim Bachelorette. We could even throw in a few other warriors, just for the hell of it, and whoever is alive at the end of the show becomes the winner.”
Torch scoffed as Elise and I died laughing.
All joking aside, she was right. I would have to pick one of them sooner rather than later, but I had absolutely no idea how I would choose.
