Dirty Little Secrets

Page 27

by Julie Leto

Like Marisela, Julie was born and raised in West Tampa and still lives close enough to the old neighborhood to visit her old haunts from time to time. Most often, though, her life is busy with writing, homeschooling her daughter and catering to the needs of her spoiled dachshund and haughty lynx-point Siamese. Like the intrepid heroine of the Dirty books, Julie also has a wide range of relatives all within driving distance—but that's about where the similarities end.

  ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Writing this book came about because of inspiration from several sources, including a few of my writer friends who had the cojones to pursue their dreams and write the kind of heroine who can take care of herself—and anyone else she deems worthy. Special thanks to Diana Peterfreund, Kathy Carmichael, Beverly Brandt (a.k.a. Jacey Ford), arid Katherine Garbera for pushing me in the right direction—even if you didn’t realize that’s what you were doing.

Special thanks to Anita Durand, Caridad Ferrer, and Mireya Orsini for checking and double-checking all the Spanish in the book to make sure I didn’t screw it up too badly. I know I at least got the curse words right. Those I remember firsthand.

I also had the courage to take a chance and do something different with this book because of the encouragement and confidence of my amazing agent, Helen Breitwieser, a true kick-ass heroine in her own right, though her style is classier than most. And of course, to the awesome editorial team at Simon & Schuster (where this book was first published,) particularly publisher Louise Burke, senior editor Amy Pierpont, and Megan McKeever, for believing in my vision and doing all you could to make sure the magic came through on the page.

And to the founders and creators of Google, without which this book could never have been written.
