Lydia screamed and raced across the yard wearing nothing but a white men’s dress shirt. Her black lace bra and panties were visible under the fabric. Long blonde hair flowed behind her.

Dressed in a pair of grey dress pants and shirtless, Roman stalked out of the house slowly. “You’re going to pay for that! Don’t bother trying to run. We both know I’ll catch you, I always do.”

Lydia turned and stuck her tongue out at him. “You’ll never catch me you heartless vampire.”

Roman laughed and kept up his casual pace as Lydia disappeared into the maze.

That was the scene that greeted Hannah, Nathaniel, and Noah. Justin was holding Hope and wondering if he could avoid getting pushed further into the middle of this. Where the hell was Caitlin? She was supposed to let Lydia know they were almost there and be at the house. What the hell was Lydia thinking with this scene? Did she want bloodshed? Checking his phone, Justin saw no reply from Caitlin. That was five texts that she’d ignored.

“Don’t you dare touch my cousin!” Hannah screamed and stormed across the lawn. Justin had to hand it to the woman, she had spunk. It kind of surprised him that she was so fearless in the face of his uncle. She’d been terrified of him before.

Roman stopped and let out a long‑suffering sigh. Lydia was already closing up sections of the maze. Even if he caught her now, the unexpected guests ruined his plans. Damn! This was inconvenient timing. At least the situation managed to instantly kill his erection. He glared at Justin, wondering why Justin hadn’t warned him of their arrival. “Can we have this discussion another time, Hannah?” Then he noticed Justin was holding the baby. “Why is my grandson wearing pink?”

“Granddaughter,” Nathaniel corrected. “Why aren’t you surprised that we’re alive?”

“A girl?” Roman was surprised, even though he shouldn’t be. “You’ll want to talk to Tempest and Ivy about that.” He gave one last forlorn look at the maze. It was much too late now. Damn woman would have it good and closed. He let out a frustrated sigh. Well, it could be worse. If they’d shown up ten minutes later he would have been inside of Lydia when they arrived. That probably wouldn’t have gone over well based on the way Hannah was glaring at him.

“You aren’t making any sense at all,” Noah said as he came up beside Hannah.

Aiden and Tempest came strolling around the side of the house hand in hand. Obviously, it was the day everyone planned to drop by unannounced. “Couldn’t all of you have shown up an hour later?”

Aiden gave an exaggerated look of horror. “In the yard? Truly shocking. You should be glad no one showed up a few minutes later or my dead cousin over here,” he said gesturing to Nathaniel, “might have really died. Welcome back from the dead.”

  Tempest stifled a laugh.

“No one seems surprised that we’re alive,” Nathaniel grumbled. “Lydia wasn’t really being held captive, was she?” he asked.

Aiden snorted. “Not even close. Your father paints the woman’s nails.”

Noah leaned into Hannah. “Remind me to make fun of Roman about the nail painting thing later.”

“So what did we walk in on?” Nathaniel asked, looking just a little green. “On second thought, please don’t answer that question.”

Roman wondered why Lydia hadn’t come back out yet. This was exactly what she wanted. Then again, maybe she was embarrassed about wearing nothing but his shirt and her undergarments. That thought made him smile and shake his head. His Lydia wasn’t shy. Then a thought occurred to him that filled him with dread. “Where did you come from?” he asked Aiden.

“Your beach,” Aiden said with a much too satisfied grin.

“Caitlin texted me yesterday afternoon and told me we should come by today,” Tempest explained. “We decided to park down the road and enjoy your beach first.”

“You left your gate open,” Aiden added.

This time Roman’s blood ran cold. “No, I didn’t leave it open. I checked it earlier today and it was locked with the security system engaged. Lydia!” he shouted.

When she didn’t answer he fished in his pocket for his phone, and handed it to Noah. “Call her for me. She was holding her phone when she left the house. I can’t seem to make this thing work under pressure.”

Noah found her number and called. The call went to voicemail.

Roman started racing toward the maze but stopped at the sound of a phone ringing.

“That’s my phone,” Justin said as he handed the sleeping baby off to Nathaniel. “It’s probably Caitlin explaining why she’s not here yet.” When he looked at the phone his brow furrowed. “I don’t recognize the number.”

“Hello,” Justin said. All of the color drained from his face and he made wild gestures for Roman to stay. “Where are you?” He held up a finger to warn the others to be quiet. “Fine, I’ll get there as soon as I can. Yeah, I’ll come alone.”

Justin returned the phone to his pocket before he spoke. “That was Dominic.”

“Why was Dominic calling you?” Aiden asked.

“Can you find Caitlin?” Justin asked Aiden. “I mean with your mind thing.”

Aiden nodded and looked at him like he was an idiot. “Of course, I can.”

“Good. Find her, then I’m going to kill Dominic,” Justin said.

“Aiden, I need you to find Lydia first,” Roman said in near panic.

“I already know where Lydia is,” Justin said. “Well, I know where she’s going to be. Dominic wants me to give her a blood transfusion. He has Caitlin somewhere else.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll go get Caitlin,” Aiden assured Justin with a hand on his shoulder. “Tempest will go with me.”

“I want to go with Justin and kill Dominic,” Tempest argued.

“I know you do, Luv, but Caitlin might be hurt and need a doctor,” Aiden said.

  Tempest nodded reluctantly.

“Can someone please tell me what’s going on?” Hannah asked nervously as she edged further away from Aiden.

Roman ignored her. “Justin, give Nathaniel the information for where Lydia is. Leave now, and we’ll head there shortly after you. I don’t want Dominic to know we’re with you.”

“Text me as soon as you have Caitlin,” Justin said to Aiden.

Aiden nodded and Justin took off at a dead run.

“Tempest and Aiden, go find Caitlin. Noah, drive them. Aiden drives like an old lady and Tempest has some issues with pregnancy related road rage.”

“We’ll take one of your cars since ours isn’t parked close,” Tempest said.

Noah nodded and squeezed Hannah’s hand before the three of them took off toward the detached garage.

The last thing Roman wanted was to explain all of this to Hannah, but it would give him something to do. Waiting was killing him. “Follow me to the house so I can get my crossbow and a shirt.” As they walked he tried to keep his explanation as simple as possible. “Dominic’s blood is addictive,” Roman explained. “It’s what caused Lydia’s original obsession with him, and he’s made it clear that he’s not going to let her go. He’s tried to kidnap her two other times already.”

Hannah looked like she wanted to ask questions but had no idea what to ask.

In less than five minutes Roman was ready to go. Crossbow in hand, he couldn’t wait any longer. “Hannah, stay at the house with the baby,” Roman said. When she started to argue, he held up a hand. “There is nothing you can do and someone needs to stay with your daughter. I’ll see if I can get Ursula to come by here to stay with you.”

“Let’s go,” Roman said to Nathaniel. “I can’t wait to kill Dominic for touching my wife.”

  Chapter Thirty-Three

Lydia didn’t come awake in slow degrees. Nope, she jerked wide awake and tried to sit up. Unfortunately, she was chained to a bed. Chained? Who the hell chains someone to a bed? Roman’s shirt was gone. Thankfully, the black lace boy shorts and bra were still in place. Not much was covered but completely naked would have been worse.<

“What the fuck?” The shout came out more like a raspy whisper so she rattled the chains.

Dominic jogged into the room. A brilliant smile lit his face. The man looked happier than Lydia had ever seen him. Knowing what a psycho he was, that could not be a good sign.

The fact that she was more angry than afraid came as a surprise. Of course, that could be because she was pretty sure someone would rescue her. Hopefully, the psycho didn’t know about Aiden’s tracking ability. While Aiden might not be able to find Dominic, he could find her. Roman would come and this nightmare would end. Unless Dominic hurt Roman. Oh God, she couldn’t even think about Roman hurt. No, Roman was fine and he was coming to rescue her.

“Chains? Do I really need to be chained to the bed?”

“After that little scene at the club, I figured better to be safe than sorry. I have no intention of losing you. The chains are pretty sexy. When we get to our permanent home, I’ll have some attached to the wall. Don’t worry; this little hovel is just a rest stop. Are you excited about seeing our new home?”

“Are you fucking insane?” Lydia snapped out.

Dominic turned around, hands fisted at his sides. “Don’t talk to me that way. I have given up everything to be with you.”

“You almost killed me!” Uncaring that they cut into her wrists, Lydia jerked at the chains.

“That was a mistake,” he said and grabbed one of the chains pulling it taut. “You belong to me. Seeing another man’s shirt on your body made me so angry that I barely got the thing off before I set it on fire. Soon, I’m going to fuck every trace of Roman off of your body.”

“That is disgusting,” she said with a shudder. “The mere thought of you touching me is revolting.” Her voice sounded pitiful and weak.

He leaned down until their foreheads nearly touched. “Let’s see what you say in an hour. As soon as my blood is coursing through your veins again, you’ll beg for my cock. You’ll do anything for me and I’ll make sure you do a lot. I’ve had months to fantasize about this moment.”

Dominic made the mistake of loosening the slack on the chains. Lydia was able to bring both hands in and slam the cuffs into his temples. She hit him twice before Dominic stumbled back and fell to the ground.

Dominic finally regained his feet and looked ready to kill. “Bitch! You’re lucky I love you so much.”

“Love? Normal people do not chain someone they love to a bed.”

“Do you think I like doing this?” The chains were adjusted so Lydia’s hands were held tightly above her head. “Why can’t you understand that this is for you? Do you think I want to see the cuts on your delicate wrists?”

“Yes,” she said steadily. “You like being in charge and you’re getting off on controlling me.”

There was a dreamy smile on his face. “When I realized you’d been changed, I was angry. I almost wanted to kill you for letting Roman get you pregnant. You belong to me!” Lydia flinched when Dominic pulled his hand back as if to hit her. That seemed to amuse him because he started to chuckle softly and merely brought the hand down to brush back her hair.

“I’m not pregnant. I can’t even have children anymore.”

“Don’t fucking lie to me,” he snarled. “I know how the change works. Don’t worry; once I realized what a good thing this was, I stopped being angry. After the baby is born, I’ll just drown the little bastard. Now, I can keep you forever. I should have thought about getting you pregnant and killing the baby before. None of my other pets were as good as you. Most could feed me energy once a week, maybe twice. You’re so strong that I can have you over and over and still play with you between feedings. Can you picture the centuries of pleasure you’ll give me?”

“You are a sick son of a bitch.” Tears threatened to spill from her eyes.

“You won’t be saying that soon,” he taunted. “Very soon, you’ll be begging me to take you. You’ll be addicted to me and no man will ever touch you again.”

“Roman should have killed you. You aren’t even a tenth of the man Roman is. Roman is much better in bed, and his cock is bigger.”

“Fine,” he said and rubbed his crotch through his dress pants. “You want to push me? Make me punish you?”

His eyes took on a more crazed expression and she realized that her big mouth was making things worse. She’d pushed him too far. “Let me go,” she said desperately. Yeah she was dumb for pushing a crazy man this far. “Please, Dominic,” she whispered.

“So now, it’s ‘please Dominic,’ is it?” he unzipped his pants and freed his erect penis. “Please what?”

“Please let me go,” she said and looked away.

  “Look at me!” he shouted.

  She shook her head.

“Look at me, or I will straddle your shoulders and shove my cock down your throat,” he snapped.

Lydia looked at him and hated the tears spilling down her cheeks. Where had all of her bravado gone?

“That’s better,” he crooned and stroked himself with one hand as he walked closer to the bed. “Don’t stop looking or I will shove my cock down your throat. After my blood is in you again, you’ll beg me to do that. You’ll beg like the dirty little slut you are.”

Lydia started to sob, as he pumped himself right by her head. He knelt on the bed so it was right over her face. Her eyes closed tightly.

“Don’t close your fucking eyes,” he snarled.

Lydia looked at him through tears.

“I hear Justin’s car coming up the gravel road. This can wait,” he said and climbed off of the bed. Lydia looked away. “In less than an hour, you’ll be dying to have me inside of you. Do you know why Justin is here?”

  She shook her head.

“Justin is going to do a blood transfusion.” Lydia’s panicked expression made him laugh. “It’s going to feel so good taking you again.”

Lydia sobbed as Dominic left the room. She hated herself a little for crying. He probably thought it was because of what he’d just done to her. No, she was terrified of what he was going to do to her. She was terrified of losing her identity again.

  Chapter Thirty-Four

The address that Dominic provided didn’t show up on Justin’s GPS. The house was small, probably only three bedrooms, but it looked relatively new. Justin had to stop by home to pick up the supplies he needed. While his medical bag was pretty complete, there were a few items he didn’t carry with him on a regular basis. After parking the car, he looked down at his phone one last time. Still no word from Aiden. Dominic was dead if Caitlin was hurt. No, Justin was going to kill Dominic for touching Caitlin anyway.

Justin climbed out of the car and tapped the pocket of his jacket. The feel of the syringe was comforting. With his medical bag slung over his shoulder he walked slowly toward the front door. He’d never accepted the existence of any god, but he found himself praying. After two centuries of being alone he wasn’t sure he could survive a day without Caitlin.

He stared up at the sky and took several deep breaths before knocking on the door.

Dominic must have been standing on the other side of the door waiting for him to knock because the door jerked open before Justin managed to get his fist back to his side. Justin put on his usual mask of indifference. Caitlin would be proud of his acting. One more reason they were perfect, they both managed to hide their feelings from the world. He forced all thoughts of Caitlin from his mind. He needed to think straight.

Dominic smirked at him. “So glad you decided to drop by, Cousin. Did you bring everything I asked for?”

Justin nodded. “Yeah, but it’ll take me about an hour to set everything up,” he lied.

Dominic’s smirk faded. His fingers tapped against his thigh. The man looked like a junkie in need of a fix. “You have ten minutes to get the transfusion started.”

“There is a lot more to it than just connecting you at the veins.”

Dominic pulled his phone out of his pocket and hit something on the screen. “You o
bviously need a little motivation.”

Dominic had the phone on speaker.

“Yeah,” answered a gruff male voice.

Justin heard at least three other male voices in the background.

“How are things going with your guest?” Dominic asked without taking his eyes off of Justin’s.

  Justin’s stomach knotted.

The man on the other end of the line chuckled. “This bitch has got quite a mouth on her. I had to gag her. Man, I’d love to yank out her teeth and fuck her smart mouth.”

“If you touch her, I will fucking kill you,” Justin shouted. So much for keeping his composure.

Dominic’s smirk was back in place. “I might call you back in ten minutes and give you permission to do that,” he said to the man on the other end of the line.

The man chuckled again and Justin heard Caitlin’s muffled sobs.

“Damn, she is one tough bitch. Even while I was cutting my initials into her belly she refused to cry,” he said. “You wouldn’t believe what I had to do to finally break her.”

Justin wasn’t sure what was keeping him on his feet at that moment. “I’ll do it,” he said in a ragged voice.

“Just behave until I call you,” Dominic said to the man on the other end of the line before ending the call and putting the phone back in his pocket.

Dominic motioned for Justin to follow him to the back of the house. He nearly vomited when he saw Lydia. She was chained to a bed. No, that’s not right. The chains on her arms were actually secured to the wall behind the bed. The ones on her legs were secured to the floor. Her wrists and ankles were bleeding. Gone was the shirt she’d been wearing earlier.

Dominic walked over and gripped the cuff on one of Lydia’s wrists. He leaned down and licked the blood off. Then his body shuddered. “Don’t worry, my sweet Lydia. You’ll be begging me to take your blood soon. You’ll beg me to possess you just like you used to.”

When her eyes locked on Justin’s, he saw the betrayal she felt. “He has Caitlin,” Justin explained. He knew this might be the last chance he had to explain himself. Yeah, he was hoping things would work out, but he was pretty much out of time.
