“I’ll do my best to get us home in time.” He pauses. “You know I wouldn’t ask if I felt comfortable with anyone else having my back.”

Shit, I know this is true.

“Give me two hours so I can at least go and tell Axel bye and make arrangements with Tessie for the change in schedule.”

“Done,” he says. Then I can hear Doll whisper something before he says, “Make it three. I have a son to get down for a nap and a wife to fuck. See you at the truck then.”

I laugh as I disconnect the call.

“Looks like we better hurry,” Lux teases.

“Do I ever hurry with you?”

She bites her bottom lip, and I scoop her up, tossing her to her back before laying over her and sliding balls deep back inside her heat.

There is no better feeling in the world than being in Rex’s arms. Still, after two orgasms and time lying together on the couch, I know I have to get up and let him go.

Slowly, we untangle ourselves and make our way to our bedroom to get changed. I take a quick shower while he packs for his run.

Rex looks at me with hunger in his eyes as I come out of our bathroom to get dressed. “You wanna ride with me to see Axel?”

“Always,” I answer, and I will always ride with Drexel ‘Rex’ Crews.

After everything this man has done for me, there is no time I will ever deny him anything.

Our relationship started out innocent. My life was in shambles when a co-worker tried to make me his whore. One by one, Drexel Crews and the Hellions MC stepped in to keep me safe and help me face my past as people turned up dead around me. I was in trouble, and he was going to keep me safe for my friend Delilah ‘Doll’ Crews. It was a simple favor that turned into so much more.

He’s everything I never knew I wanted. We come from two different worlds, but I am the woman I am today because of his love.

Once I’ve put on jeans, boots, and a T-shirt, I braid my brown hair so I am ride ready. My usual attire is business suits and heels.

There is a freedom to the open road with my man in front of me and his steel horse under me. This is not the life I ever would have pictured for myself, yet at the end of every day, it is perfect.

We head out, making the drive to Shooter and Tessie’s house.

At their house, Axel is at the front door before we can even reach the porch steps.

Devon Axel Crews is the spitting image of his father. Tessie and Rex had a long-term, on again, off again, crazy relationship that led to nowhere and caused Tessie a lot of pain. When she really needed Rex, he failed her on more than one occasion. This left the door open for Andy ‘Shooter’ Jenkins to be the man she needed in her and her son’s life. Rex never even knew until recently that Axel is his kid, but the truth is out now, and we have all found a way to forgive the sins of the past and have a future together for Axel.

  “Hey, little man,” Rex greets.

“Why do you always gotta remind me I’m little?” Axel says with a smile as he hugs his father.

Tessie leans against the doorframe, watching her son but not hovering. She is good at giving Axel the space to learn and grow yet still being present. She’s a damn good mom, and one day, should I be blessed to have children of my own, I hope I can find the balance she has.

Rex steps up onto the porch and leans in to give Tessie a quick hug while Axel charges in the house like all little kids do. I quickly hug Tessie, as well, and then we all make our way inside.

“I’ve got a run, Tessie,” Rex sighs. I know it kills him to miss a weekend with Axel.

“No worries. You can get him when you get back. Andy and I were going to have date night, but we can reschedule. Mom’s not feeling well, so I’m not sure about leaving him with her.”

Tessie’s mom has multiple sclerosis and suffers daily. Therefore, she’s not always the best babysitting option for Axel.

A thought hits me, and I speak before I think.

“Can I have him for the weekend?”

Tessie looks at me wide-eyed while Rex smirks in a way that makes me think he likes the idea of me with his son. I think I may have just overstepped my boundaries with his baby’s momma, though.

  “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean—”

“Are you sure?” Tessie asks, smiling as she reads my face. “I’m good with it if you are, and you can still have him when you get back, Rex. I don’t want him to miss time with his dad,” she says to him before turning back to me. “Caroline, you are a part of his life, too, and I trust you, just like Rex trusts Andy to keep Axel on his own.”

That’s all the boost I need, so I nod my head and start planning a weekend with my soon-to-be stepson.

  I can do this.

Giving Rex a few minutes with Axel, I feel a tightness in my chest at the thought of him leaving. This isn’t the first time he’s taken a run since we have been together, and I know it won’t be the last. It’s just making plans, such as a wedding, is really hard to do when I don’t know if he will be home from one day to the next.

“Lux.” Axel walks over to me with his dad. “Since it’s me and you this weekend, can we have a movie night?”

I smile at him. “Sure thing.”

“This way, we can crash out in the living room, and I’m in a better place to protect you.” He looks up to Rex for approval.

  “Protect me, huh?”

“Yeah, with Dad having to take a transport for the business and you being alone, someone’s got to be the man in the house.” He pauses for emphasis and looks me up and down. “Lux, I’m just saying, you are way too much woman to ever be a man.”

  We all bust out laughing.

“Well, I’m sure your dad is glad to know that.”

“Pick up the good popcorn in the pop-up bowl, and I’ll be sure to pack the Transformers DVD collection from Shooter’s stash. If you’re lucky, we can squeeze in Pixels, too.”

With my weekend plans in place, I follow Rex out after a quick good-bye to Tessie and Axel.

I wrap my arms around my man a little tighter in pride that, even while he’s gone, not only does he trust me with his son, but Tessie does, too. We really are going to make this blending of our households work. I had such a strange childhood, so I want to make sure Axel doesn’t have any doubts about Rex’s place in his life.

My mother was the governor’s maid by day and his whore by night. I was the bastard child he hid away in the servants’ quarters and gave hand-me-downs to from his legitimate daughter. I went to college and had to find a way to pay for it, becoming a whore of my own making to a sugar daddy. I did what my mother did best. I’m not proud of what I did, but in the end, I’m a better person for it.

It’s all in the past now, and I have a good man with a good son. I also have a family in the Hellions MC I never thought possible. Life is good, and I really couldn’t ask for more.

I start thinking just as Rex drops me off at home. I shouldn’t ask for more. Rex has given me so much already. He’s right; New York isn’t his place. He’s a southern boy.

Good-byes are never easy, so after a quick kiss, I make my way inside as he pulls away.

He always tells me, if I want something, take it. Well, I want to be Mrs. Drexel Devon Crews, and I want to do it when he comes home. Now I just need to make it happen.
