  As we drove down the road, passing the visitor center, I slowed down. Heath and Sophie were sitting on lawn-chairs near the square with Bloody Marys in their hands, watching some guys playing Frisbee.

  Robin looked over at me and raised her eyebrows. Then she smiled, and rolled down the window.

  Driving extra slow, I leaned my hand on the steering wheel and shook it back and forth in a friendly salute, as Robin hung her head out the window (doing so, I’d like to think, so that Heath had a better view into the car).

  He wore an astounded look, his perpetual alpha-male confidence noticeably at least disturbed for a moment, as he stared at us going by. “Toodles!” Robin called out. “We’re going to lunch.”

  He still looked surprised as hell as we drove off.

  Robin exploded into giggles as we turned out onto the rutted road. “Did you see his face?” she snorted. “That was great.”

  I had.

  I smiled smugly. There wasn’t much need to say how I felt.

  After all, I’m a gracious winner.
