Lace & More

Lacey gave her a cool smile and sat down. The attendant couldn’t get away fast enough once she’d returned.

Reilly chuckled and kissed the soft peach fuzz hair on their daughter’s head. “I think your mommy is jealous,” he whispered.

“I am not jealous.” Lacey smiled and took her daughter’s tiny hand in hers. “I’m getting used to women fawning all over your daddy, especially when he’s holding you.”

Reilly chuckled. “They do not fawn all over me.”

Lacey raised her eyebrows and snorted. But in truth, it didn’t bother her anymore. Reilly was hers. Any doubts and insecurities she’d had in the beginning were since long gone. She married a gorgeous man and she was one lucky woman. When other women flirted, she felt sorry for them. Reilly only had eyes for her and now, their beautiful daughter Kyla.

She smiled at her husband and leaned over to kiss him. “They do but that’s okay. I’m not jealous because I’m the one who got her lucky claws into you.”

Reilly laughed and kissed her back. The pilot’s voice came over the speaker and announced they were beginning their descent to the airport. Lacey took Kyla out of her husband’s arms and discreetly began nursing her to help the baby’s ears during the descent.

“I never tire of watching you feed her,” Reilly said, peaking under the blanket, his eyes full of awe and wonder as Kyla suckled at her breast. Lacey couldn’t agree more. It was a beautiful sight as her daughter’s little hand clutched at her breast and she made contented little sucking noises.

Reilly traced his fingers over her tiny hand. “My parents are probably pacing at the airport, waiting anxiously to meet their new granddaughter.”

Lacey chuckled, knowing he was right. She loved his family from the moment she’d met them. Reilly had taken her to Ireland shortly after his sister gave birth to their second child. They had been warm and welcoming and made her feel a part of their family. They had returned six months later to get married in his home town. It made sense for them to get married back in Ireland. Their close friends, Kim and Nick and Julia had all come as well. Even Lacey’s mother had made the trip. She had apologized to both Lacey and Reilly for her interference.

But what had surprised Lacey was the complete change in her mother when Kyla was born. She was a doting grandmother who couldn’t get enough of her grandbaby. Slowly she had changed. Gone was the pounds of makeup she usually wore. She looked more her age and even more beautiful. She had even recently confided to Lacey she was dating a man. A nice widow who was actually a few years older than herself.

Lacey smiled at the memory and the growing closeness with her mother. Life was good. No doubt about it.

“What are you smiling about?” Reilly asked.

“You,” she stated. “I’m thinking tomorrow we should give your mom some alone time with Kyla to get to know each other.” Her eyes sparkled playfully. “And maybe give us time alone. We can find an elevator, or a fitting room, or a truck…” Her voice trailed off seductively.

“I think that’s a great idea,” he whispered.

“I do think Kyla might appreciate our efforts as well.” A quizzical expression came over Reilly’s face at her words.

“Our efforts,” Lacey repeated. “To make her a brother or sister.” She smiled tentatively.

Reilly’s lips broke out in a huge grin. “Absolutely. We should get on it as soon as possible and make sure we give it our best efforts as frequently as possible.”

Lacey laughed and kissed him. “I love you, husband.”

Reilly nipped at her bottom lip. “I love you, too, wife.”
