  “Of course. Please let us know, we would be happy to have you on board even if it's in a consulting capacity.”

  “What’s on your mind?” He waited until she was seated on the sofa and her legs curled up beneath her before he asked her the question. He'd left early this morning, wishing she could come with him but knowing that she had her own obligations, which she took seriously and he respected her for that. So he'd finished his business quickly and made the trip back home. He would have done it even if it meant traveling all night just to be with her. They'd just eaten the meal the housekeeper had left for them and were in the living room.

  “Stop doing that.”

  “Stop doing what?”

  “Delving into my thoughts.”

  “Is that what I'm doing?” he asked her mildly as he stretched his legs out and put one arm at the back of the sofa, his eyes on her. She'd showered and changed into a skimpy romper, which left her flawless legs bare as well as her shoulders. Her hair was loose around her shoulders and down her back.

  “You know it is.” She sighed. “I was at the hospital today.”

  “And you told me everything was fine.”

  “Our baby is healthy, darling, but I was asked for a consult with a patient.”

  “Oh?”

  “I miss doing that.”

  “What are you saying?”

  She shrugged. “I was asked if I could do it on a regular basis and I told the doctor that I'd have to talk to you first.”

  “But you've already made up your mind,” he pointed out a little coolly.

  “No,” she told him firmly. “I'm not going to do anything that you don't want me to do. I love the medical facility and I'm going to take the allotted time to be with our child when the time comes. I just want to know what you think.”

  “And if I say no?” he challenged her.

  “Then no it will be.”

  “Just like that?”

  “Just like that,” she said fervently. “You're my husband and I would never go against your wishes as I'm sure you would never go against mine.”

  With a sigh he reached over and pulled her into his arms. She buried her face in his chest and inhaled his scent, her eyes closed in contentment. “I want you to do it if you don't think it will overtax you.”

  “I'm still thinking about it,” she murmured. “And I would never do anything to jeopardize our child.”

  “I know.”

  “I love you.”

  “I love you more,” he whispered.

  ***

  It wasn't a yacht this time but an ocean goer that looked more like a floating five star hotel than anything else with the expensive trappings of wealth and the sumptuous furnishings; as well as a tennis court and a swimming pool. The party was being held on the upper deck and beautiful women paraded around in next to nothing with glasses of champagne in their hands. The host was nowhere to be seen as Timothy held his wife’s hand firmly in his as they wove through the deck chairs dotting the moss green flooring of the upper deck. He hadn't wanted to come but Liam had insisted and had accused him of trying to keep his wife on a short leash. “Adam and Amber will be there as well.”

  So far he hadn't seen any of his friends and wondered if Liam had tricked him. He was just about to suggest that they get something to eat when they both heard laughter behind them and a loud shriek as someone landed in the pool.

  “That’s Liam,” Timothy said dryly as he turned to watch his friend surfacing from the clear blue water wearing a pair of shorts that clung to his excellent physique and with a blonde clinging to his arm. They both got out of the pool and he bent and whispered something to her that had her walking away. He came forward, his long legs eating up the distance and his hands outstretched. “You made it!” He started to pull Robyn into his arms and Timothy stopped him.

  “You're going to get her wet.”

  “That’s the general idea,” he said with a laugh, his grey gaze going appreciatively over the pink shorts she was wearing. “Is it my imagination or are you actually lovelier than on your wedding day?”

  “Stop ogling my wife. Where's Adam?”

  “Somewhere around.” Liam ignored his friend and linked his arm with Robyn, bending to plant a wet kiss on her cheek. “I wanted it to be your lips but I'm sure your husband would put me in the hospital if I did. But you're a doctor and I would love to feel your healing hands on my body.” He grinned wickedly at Timothy, who was glowering.

  “Behave, Liam,” Robyn admonished, not taking him seriously.

  “Ah! Saved by Adam,” he said with an irrepressible grin as he sighted the couple coming towards him.

  “Go put some clothes on, man,” Adam told him as he greeted Timothy and Robyn. She'd met Amber for the first time at the wedding and had taken a liking to the woman who had a confidence that defied description. She also realized the formerly notorious playboy adored her and couldn't take his eyes off her.

  “Yes Liam, we already know how wonderful your physique is so no need to show off any more of it,” Amber said dryly as she greeted Robyn.

  Liam looked from one woman to the next and shook his dark head. “I'm off somewhere to get my ego stroked.” He had a wounded look on his face that had his friends laughing. Robyn had to admit she had an immense amount of fun! She'd seen the other side of society that her husband belonged to because when he was required to go to functions, she was there with him, but this was the absolute pinnacle of wealth and Liam was as comfortable in it—as was Adam—because they'd been born into it. Her husband had made his wealth by sheer determination and even though he was at ease around his friends she knew how different he was.

  Adam and Liam carelessly took what they had for granted but not her husband. She found herself watching as both men cavorted in the pool and she wasn't the only one looking. The place was filled with women, movie stars, rich socialites, who were at the moment vying for Liam’s attention. They'd taken one look at Amber and had backed away from Adam, much to his amusement.

  “You're scaring away my admirers, love,” he told her as he came over to hunker down at her lounge chair where she was wearing her shades on top of her head. “I'm going to do more than scare them away if they so much as touch you on the arm,” she told him lightly, one hand trailing down his wet chest. “Look but don’t touch, and I really don't want them looking either.”

  “I'll go and put some clothes on,” he told her as he pulled her into his arms for a lingering kiss.

  “We have to establish ground rules,” Amber told Robyn with a smile as she caught the woman’s eyes.

  “I agree.” They both looked over to where their husbands were leaning against the railing of the deck and speaking to Liam. They made such an attractive picture that they couldn't help but draw attention to themselves!

  “They're too handsome for their own good,” Amber said with a sigh.

  Their little girl was born on a snowy day in February. Talia Rosemarie McLaughlin weighed seven pounds and two ounces with her mother’s dark curls and dark brown eyes as well as her mother’s turned up nose. She was so adorable that her dad declared she was the most beautiful baby he'd ever seen. Malik and Hillary had had a son two months before and they were all there for the birth of the newest addition to the family. Both Madison and Holly declared themselves the protectors of the two babies and said that they relished being the big sisters.

  She was able to go home from the hospital two days after and had taken two weeks off to be with her baby, she was thinking that she would take maybe a month and had managed to get a doctor from the hospital to stand in for her at the medical facility. They still hadn't decided whether or not they should build a house yet but that was for later.

  She looked up as her husband came into the bedroom. Their daughter was sleeping, and she nodded to him as he came forward. “Want me to take her?” he whispered.

  She nodded. They were going to hire a nanny soon but not just yet. Her
husband took their daughter carefully and placed her into the cot they'd put inside the room. He put her inside it carefully and watched her small hands curl into tight fists and rest at the sides of her head. He reached out a finger and brushed at her curls tenderly, his eyes blurry with tears. She was so beautiful! He thought achingly. He looked up to see his wife looking at him and pulling the blanket over his daughter he finally left her to climb onto the bed next to the woman who made his life so complete.

  “Tired?” he whispered as he closed his arms around her body.

  “A little bit.”

  “I love you, darling.”

  “I love you too, always and forever.”
