Compassion Be Damned_A Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance

I still didn’t understand. “Sister Superior, you don’t give people a second chance at life.”
“Oh no? Ask Teagan, Anne, and Mika about that sometime. I give people a second chance at life. You, I was prevented from doing so.”
I shook my head. “Ma’am, I beg your forgiveness for arguing, but they had important roles to play.”
She sighed. “For the love of all things, are you under the impression that you didn’t? You have saved us all. The entire universe. You just gave Aspen what I could not—a second chance. And now we see what she does. In the meantime, I will not be outdone. Not when no one even asked me or informed me they were going to rebirth you when you are so clearly a soul that belongs to me.”
“I…”
She waved her hand in the air. “Don’t worry about politics among creatures of power. All of us are egomaniacs, and you’ve never had enough of an ego to even fuel yourself. There are two things that you want. What are they?”
“Two? I’m afraid I’m more selfish than that. I want five things.”
She put her hands on her hips. “For the sake of argument, let’s make those five things one thing. Titus. Paden. Zeke. Ryland. Jett.” She clapped her hands and suddenly they were around me. Jett nearly fell forward, and Ryland grabbed him.
“Krystal,” my five spoke my name in unison.
It was Titus who addressed Sister Superior. “Are we all dead? That didn’t take time. You were gone then we were here. Oh, thank Divinity. I was going to figure out what we were going to do to get here.”
“I am going to hold off the reunion for just a second. What is the second thing you have always wanted? And before you wonder whether you should want it since it will involve them too, I can assure you that your love of this has always been shared. We don’t randomly put you all together.”
What did I want? Other than eternity with them? “I…”
“Say it. Say what you want.”
“I want to fly.” I practically spit the words out and then foolishness flooded me. Sisters didn’t fly.
She smiled at me slowly. “With Aspen now becoming a Sister, someone will have to take over the raven duties. I think we have five such people right here and one Sister who can communicate with me more readily than we’ve ever had.”
Sister Superior kissed my cheek. “Fly, Krystal. Fly as much as you want. In the end, when what is done is done, we will be all be together again. But not yet.”
What did she mean?
I…
Wings sprouted out of my back. Sort of… It was hard to explain it. One second I stood on my two feet and the next I was in the air, but I wasn’t in my body. I was a bird. I was… I just was. I had wings and I could fly.
But I wasn’t alone. There were five, black birds, larger than me, and I knew who they were. I’d always known them.
We circled, we dove, I got the hang of it. They’d done this before. I never had. But they’d made me a strong bird and soon I knew where I had to go. I had a destination.
The Sisterhood beckoned me. The real one. Anne’s Sisterhood. It came into view, and then as I dove toward the ground I needed my body. My human body. I shifted. Done.
I stood on two feet. My guys appeared next to me, and as we landed Anne darted to her feet. “Krystal?”
I nodded. “I’m here. I’m different but I’m here.”
“How is this possible?” She pulled me into a hug. “I’m so glad to see you.”
“I’m glad to see you, too. I’ve come to tell you the Warrior is in play. She will come. And when the final battle comes, Sister Anne, I will be there.”
Her mouth fell open. “What has happened?”
“Teagan will see it soon.” As I spoke I could feel the divine in my brain. I knew things. But mostly what I wanted to do was fly. “We’ll be back. When the time comes. Hold the line, Sister Anne.”
Titus took my hand, and I let him lead me away. “If the end is coming, we’re going to have some fun. Don’t you think we’ve earned fun, love?”
“I do. What did you have in mind?”
Paden knocked into me. “Well, first off, I’m hungry. Isn’t anyone else hungry? I don’t know if any of us are alive or dead, and I’m hungry.”
“Me too.” Zeke kissed my cheek. “There are good restaurants near the train station. We can fly there. And I have money. Like magically. In my pocket.”
Ryland nodded. “All our girl had to do was save the world and now we get to fly and eat. Sounds like the best day of my damned life.”
Jett winked at me. “I love that you wanted to fly. I’ll race you.”
I might let him win. I took to the sky.
My guys were right, we’d earned some fun and when the time came, we’d be back.

About the Author
As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework. I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.
I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend. I live in Austin Texas where I am determined to eat all the barbecue in town.
I am in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and try to use all of these elements in my writing. I've been told I'm a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you'll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.
In my world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.
I'd love to hear from you! Please visit my website at www.rebeccaroyce.com to sign up for my newsletter and learn about my books!
Cheers!!
