The Surgeon's Engagement Wish Page 16

by Alison Roberts

Beth snuggled back into Luke’s embrace. ‘It’s what I want,’ she confirmed happily. ‘Can you cook?’

  ‘Of course I can cook.’

‘You don’t sound very sure about that.’

‘Doesn’t matter, anyway. My mum makes the best casseroles you’ve ever tasted. She can give me some lessons.’

Beth pulled back far enough to beam at Luke. ‘That’s great!’

  ‘Why? Can’t you cook either?’

‘Of course I can cook. It’s just that I’ve got this really nice casserole dish that needs christening.’

Luke shook his head in fond bewilderment. Then he kissed Beth yet again before levering himself into a position from which he could gather her up into his arms.

‘Come on, then. We need to get ourselves organised.’

‘For cooking?’ Beth was feeling weary enough to simply let the joy of being with Luke be the only thought she needed to hold.

‘No,’ Luke said sternly. ‘For spending the rest of our lives together.’

‘Oh…’ Beth wrapped her arms more tightly around the nec of the man she loved. ‘What are we waiting for, then?’

  ‘Just this.’

Luke bent his head and kissed her…again.
