She drew in a shuddering breath. She arched pressing her nipple against his lips again. His lips closed over the bud again.

“No, your cock. I need you to fuck me.” She lifted into his touch.

He stepped back. He flicked open the button on her jeans and drew the zipper down. “Push them down and turn around. Brace your hands on the desk.”

He watched to see that she followed his orders. Then he unbuttoned his dress pants. She turned and braced her hands on the desktop. With a glance back over her shoulder, she watched him edge in behind her. His cock brushed against her ass.

“I want to feel your sweet, wet heat around my cock.” He leaned down and ran his tongue over her shoulder. His arm slipped under her, pulling her firmly back against him.

She pressed her hips back against his. Her body burned for the feel of him thrusting against her. His cock nudged against her pussy once before the head pushed at her opening. His hips rolled forward, sheathing his shaft. She trembled desperate for the thrust of his cock, and the intensity he’d promised her.

Her nails scraped against the black blotter.

“Now, Isaac.” Her voice trembled as she gave the order.

“You’re ours. Don’t think that we’ll let you go.” Isaac’s fingers cupped her pussy.

Two fingers pressed between the lips as his hips drew back. She barely understood what he said. The ache ripped at her, leaving her a quivering mass of need.

His hips punched forward, driving his shaft deep and forcing her clit against his fingers. She lost her breath. Her tissues clenched around him. Before the surge of sensation began to fade he pulled out and plunged deep again. He sank deep with each thrust, her folds stretching. When he withdrew, her channel tightened trying to hold him. Burning need spread through her.

His chest pressed against her back as he covered her. His mouth moved over her shoulder. His teeth scraped, sending a thrill through her.

“We’re keeping you, baby, and any other plans you have for marriage will have to change.” He flicked his finger over her clit.

The possessiveness in his voice washed over her. In that moment, it sent a thrill of feminine appreciation through her. She arched back, pressing into his driving hips. The slapping sound as his hips met hers accompanied her panting gasps.

Pain mixed with the raging desire as his teeth sank into her shoulder. His teeth held her as he continued to drive into her. The two sensations combined into a roiling wall of unstoppable pleasure. She shattered with the force. She came hard. She clamped her lips tight against the moans. The overwhelming feelings swept over her in pulses, leaving her quivering and feeling boneless. She would have collapsed to the desktop if his arm hadn’t held her up. He continued to slam into her. A low growl rumbled from him right before he came. His body shook as his orgasm took him. His teeth tightened. His arm contracted, keeping her close to him. Hot air burned against the sensitive flesh. She savored the lingering pleasure and pressed into him.

His tongue swiped across her shoulder. His head lifted, but he paused to press a kiss over the place where he’d bitten her. As the pleasure faded, she began to think again. Her mind locked on his words from before. She was already changing. What the fuck did he mean?

She didn’t know if she wanted to ask him. Would it put him over the edge as her earlier statements had done? Her thighs trembled. If he did that again, she didn’t know if she’d be able to hold back a scream. It had seemed as if he wanted her to make as much noise as possible when he drove into her.

His arm eased away from her as if he wanted to make sure she could stand. She straightened and turned. He had fastened his pants by the time that she looked at him.

Her tongue swiped across her lips. She gathered her courage. She couldn’t leave this until later. Later she’d be with both of them. If it did send him into that over the top possessive mode again, she’d rather deal with one man.

“What did you mean I was changing?” She wanted information, but she wondered if he would try some over the top lie. She didn’t think she could change into a Gargoyle. She would always be Branal, but she didn’t know what a Gargoyle bite would do to her.

“Your body is changing. It’s that simple.” His eyes focused on her.

Her muscles relaxed a bit when she realized he wouldn’t suddenly pounce on her.

“It’s not that simple. What’s changing? I’m Branal, not some fucking human. I won’t change into a Gargoyle.” She glared at him. She might be naïve about a few things, but she wasn’t stupid.

That gaze narrowed and she saw a bit of anger rising in him. She needed to quell her tongue a little, even if he annoyed her. He’d already proven that on some subjects he had definite limits.

“Careful of those words, or neither of us will get any work done today, and you might leave this office a little sore.” Isaac raised a brow in open challenge.

Asshole. Not that she’d say that to him at the moment. She did have some sense of self preservation.

“What is changing in me? I know it’s not my complete biology, but have no idea what you’re talking about.” She kept her voice calm with effort.

“You will always have your Branal abilities, but you will be changing into a Gargoyle,” he said with a nod. “I wouldn’t mind if you were human, but it makes no difference. You’ll be a Gargoyle, all the same. It will take a while to complete, maybe months. But every bite, every exchange of fluids, helps. Which is why we haven’t used a condom. We’ll know by your scent that you’re close. When that happens, we’ll take precautions. Any children will be a decision we come to together. After that, the change will continue. Eventually, you’ll be able to change into a Gargoyle with your own wings.”

He delivered explanation in such a matter of fact tone. Her heart raced and her palms dampened. Anger, confusion, sadness, and rage all mixed together. She clenched her fists as she tried to deal with the emotions. Such damn presumptuous men. What would that change mean for her?

  Chapter Nine

Naomi glanced over at Isaac. Yeah, she acted a little cautious around him. She hadn’t pushed him again this afternoon. She’d expected Neil to come with them to the store to get her clothes. He’d called Isaac early after lunch to say that he would be working late tonight.

Isaac hadn’t been happy about that. She hadn’t asked why he seemed angry. He hadn’t explained. She didn’t want to get caught up in it. She had to remember she wanted out.

For a little while, she’d thought Isaac would cancel the shopping trip. He hadn’t, although, he had said that most of the clothing they bought would be delivered to the house. She didn’t argue. If she had her way, she wouldn’t wear most of them.

Isaac held up a skirt. He’d grabbed skirts from every rack they visited. That and a couple dresses. She wouldn’t wear dresses every day no matter how many of them he found.

“I need pants.” She frowned as a thought occurred to her. She didn’t know how long it would be before she did go home. Maybe she should say something about her schooling. “I’ll need scrubs, if you can get me back into school.”

“We’ll get you scrubs when you need them, but I like skirts.”

“You want a couple to wear?” She shook her head at him.

He laughed. “No, I prefer them on you, smart mouth.”

“I’ve got some skirts here along with a couple pairs of jeans, slacks, and shorts. We also need to shop in the lingerie section, because I need bras and panties.” She grabbed the skirt he held and put it on the pile of things to buy. She didn’t feel comfortable spending their money, but he insisted and wouldn’t listen to reason.

“I don’t know if panties are a necessity. You said that you wanted us to buy you necessities right now.” He looked up at her and winked.

“Regardless of your lascivious proclivities, I need panties, especially for about four days every month.” She crossed her arms over her chest and dared him to say anything more.

He grinned and dropped another skirt o
nto the pile. “Let’s go. We’ll get your panties and bras and then we can start home. Maybe Neil will be there by that time. We’ll also pick up something to eat on the way.”

“You plan to give me advice again about which piece you think is the better choice?” She glanced over at him as they moved to the lingerie section.

“Of course, the sexy stuff is supposed to be for the man right? I think I should have a part in the decisions.” He raised his brows.

She pictured thongs and barely-there front open bras. Luckily, this store didn’t stock crotchless panties and cut-out bras. She sent a silent thank you to whatever deity led them here. With his insistence on the skirts, she’d learned he could be pushy. She wouldn’t leave the store without those blatantly sexy things.

Naomi had never before been in a rush to stop shopping, but shopping with Isaac made her want to scream and pull her hair out. If she could have stormed away from him, she would have. He made shopping for panties and bras morbidly embarrassing. He held up the skimpiest or sheerest articles he could find, and put the ones he liked on the pile regardless of anything she said. She managed to slip some of his choices out of the pile while he searched for more. Finally, they paid for the clothes and left the store.

Naomi carried two bags as they crossed the parking lot. The rest of the clothes would be delivered to the community. Isaac’s eyes swept over the cars they passed. The fabric of his shirt stretched across his shoulders. His muscles tensed.

Naomi searched the area, her gaze skimming over the cars in the parking lot. She didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. A couple of people walked through the lot to the store. She saw one person heading toward a car on the opposite side of the lot. Even with the lot lights, shadows encroached, leaving areas where she could see dark vehicle shaped blobs.

When she couldn’t see anyone, she relaxed and focused on getting to the car. Isaac strode by her side. She didn’t have to be as careful as she would normally. That big man had the muscles to be a body guard, and since he insisted on being with her, he could take that job.

As they neared the car, she saw Isaac stiffen. He reached out and guided her behind him. She hadn’t seen anything strange, but she didn’t try to get in front of him. She didn’t think he’d do that for something simple. She hoped they didn’t encounter another Appari. That thing had nearly killed her, and she didn’t know if he had the knife with him. She didn’t have enough experience to take one of those down with her hands.

“Stay behind me, and if something goes wrong, run to the store and call Neil or Dante.” Isaac pressed his phone into her hands. “Otherwise stay close. I can’t worry about something happening to you and fight this thing.”

She took the phone. With a slight shift to the side, she peeked around him. She saw a graying skin, a shock of red hair, sunken, sharp features. A corrupt Gobel. No way could she take him down.

“I’ll run for it if anything happens.” She didn’t know if he waited for a reply. He hadn’t said anything or moved.

She didn’t know what he planned to do. They were in public. He couldn’t go all winged, clawed beast and rip it to shreds. Darkness might shield them, but a few people lingered. Someone would get something on video. It always happened.

If the Gargoyle leaders acted anything like the Branal, they wouldn’t like that. Although most humans would think the video had been faked and digitally created, paranoid human groups trawled the web. They’d believe it and start looking into what could do this.

They had a hard time covering the incident once it hit the internet. Some of it would go away if a teen filmed it in an isolated location. If more than one person captured the video, they had to worry if a human group would come looking to kill the monsters.

She heard a smack. She didn’t see Isaac move, but since he didn’t rock backward, she didn’t know if the Gobel had hit him. Isaac’s arm shot out. She heard a crunch.

  * * * *

Isaac clenched his fist in frustration. It would be much easier to take this thing out if he could shift, or if he had one of the blades they used when they hunted corrupt Gobel. The public place kept him from ending this quickly. He could sense Naomi behind him. As long as she stayed out of the way and didn’t try to interfere, he should be able to keep her safe.

The Gobel darted forward. It slashed out at him, not caring who saw it in its unnatural state. Even when corrupted, it could cast a glamor. He didn’t know why it hadn’t tried that. Isaac wouldn’t have realized until it got much closer that it posed a threat. He’d spotted it as it crept between two cars, trying to sneak up on them. The bright red hair had contrasted with the gray car it crouched near.

Isaac slashed his fists out in a quick one-two strike, chin and gut. The blows drove the beast backward. Isaac didn’t follow. He didn’t want to separate from Naomi. He didn’t know if the creature wanted to separate them. Corrupt Gobel normally had some type of goal, something that would benefit them. Usually greed, but it wasn’t always money. It could be some sort of possession.

He didn’t think the creature would be interested in the lingerie Naomi held. He’d have to ask her if she’d ever come across the creatures. Although he couldn’t see Naomi coming away unscathed in that encounter. She didn’t have much training.

The Gobel swung, his claws extended. Isaac flinched back. The claws narrowly missed his face. Isaac slammed his fists forward into the creature’s body and chin. He hoped that the thing would run after a while. They tended to be cowards and run if they could. Normally, he’d try to stop that from happening and end the Gobel’s existence. This time, he’d have to let it go because of possible observers.

When the Gobel stumbled, shaking his head, Isaac used the opportunity. “If I step forward, you step forward. Maintain the distance between us. Don’t let it widen. I don’t want us to be separated.”

“Yes, Isaac.” Her voice rose to a higher note, the stress obvious in it. He didn’t have time to glance back and reassure her that everything would be all right.

The Gobel came back. He slashed his claws, his arms swinging in a windmill fashion. Isaac blocked one. The other cut into his arm. He flinched as pain flashed over his arm. He drove his fist forward, slamming into the beast’s cheek. Isaac followed the blow with another and then an uppercut to the chin.

The Gobel fell back, but scrambled to his feet. He bared his teeth before turning and running away. Isaac looked over his shoulder. A sliver of relief curled through him when he saw Naomi right behind him.

The sight of two people on the sidewalk near the store brought a growl from him. He didn’t need this shit. He wanted to take his woman home to the safety of the community. One thing did give him some satisfaction. They didn’t seem to have filmed any of it. One woman held her phone, but she spoke on it.

“The police are on the way.” The woman stepped off the sidewalk and strode toward them.

Isaac sighed. Although he didn’t think there would be film of a Gobel going viral in the next days, he had to contact either the Cim or the one of the betas. They wanted to be informed any time one of them came into contact with the human law enforcement.

“That man looked strange.” A male worker joined them.

“Yeah, I think he was wearing some type of disguise, but definitely a mask.” Isaac gave a shrug of his shoulders and tried to pass it off as some type of curiosity.

Both full humans appeared to buy the explanation. They wouldn’t assume that the strange appearance signified anything other than a human trying to hide his identity, unless they’d been exposed to the paranormal side of life here in the city.

“Well, if he was wearing a disguise, he didn’t want to be recognized,” the woman said. “You’re bleeding though.”

“Yeah, but it’s not that bad. I have a first aid kit in the back of my car and will put a bandage over it. He must have grazed me with a knife.” Isaac reached back and grasped Naomi’s hand. He guided her to the car.

Opening the trunk, he pulled out
the first aid kit and watched as she put her bags in the back. Her fingers shook. He wanted to take her in his arms and hold her, soothe away the fear and nervousness obviously washing through her. He could wait until he cleaned the wound and cleared away the blood on his arm.

When he’d wiped the blood from his arm, he turned and pulled her into his arms. Tremors ran over her body. As calm as she appeared outwardly, this had shaken her. He didn’t know what occupied her thoughts. Now was not the time to ask.

  Chapter Ten

They’d have to get into that after he got her home safely. Perhaps they could talk about it on the way there. He knew that once they got there, they’d have to report in to either the Cim or the betas, whichever person handled things at the moment. The Cim trusted the betas with most issues.

It took too long to finish the report with the police. At one point, he wanted to roar at them that it was none of their business. They had no idea what they’d be dealing with if they did face a corrupted Gobel.

Once the police finally told them they could go, he put her in the car and walked around to get into the driver’s seat. He frowned as it suddenly occurred to him that she could have used this as an opportunity to get away from him. She hadn’t though.

He didn’t understand why she’d passed up the chance. He couldn’t have taken her away from them. Not without revealing that he was more than human. It wouldn’t have gotten her free for long though.

They would have found her, probably later tonight. They had gotten her contacts off the sim card, although they hadn’t replaced her phone yet. He couldn’t risk exposing his people in that way.

After he’d driven out of the lot, he glanced over at her. She stared straight ahead. Her hand gripped the door handle. It appeared as if she had a death grip on that thing. She didn’t reach for the lock.

“Why didn’t you use the chance to try to get away from us?” He wouldn’t let the matter fade away.
