LED ASTRAY Page 23

by Sandra Brown

Jenny sniffed back her tears. "You would have been proud to see me standing up to them, telling them the baby I carried was yours."

The kiss that followed was considerably more heated than the one before. "Mother and Dad have come around," Cage said when they pulled apart. "They're crazy about Trent and think he's the most wonderful baby in the world."

"Wonder where they got the idea?" Teasingly she tweaked a clump of his chest hair. "Between them and Roxy and Gary, he'll be spoiled rotten if we don't keep a lid on their indulgence." She laughed. "You know when I first knew that your folks would accept us?"

"When Dad married us in the hospital room?"

"No," she said, automatically smiling at the memory. "Before that, when Gary called from El Paso, wondering why we weren't at the airport to pick them up when they got home from their honeymoon. I was upset and embarrassed. I had forgotten all about them while you were in intensive care. Bob volunteered to drive to El Paso and bring them home. I knew that if he could accept Roxy, he could accept us."

"You won a few points with them when you set up the Hal Hendren Fund to Aid Political Refugees."

"And you won even more when you made that hefty donation."

"Only because you insisted I match what I spent on your wedding ring."

  "You would have anyway."

"I don't know," he hedged, glancing down at the diamond and emerald ring. "That was a damned expensive ring."

She pinched him on his bare bottom. They both laughed and when the laughter subsided, Cage stared down at her, his eyes alight with desire. "You're my darling, Jenny. I adore you. There was no light in my life until you loved me."

"Then that light will shine forever, because that's how long I'll love you."

  "Cross your heart?"

"Cross my heart." She reached for his mouth with hers and when they met, their unquenchable desire was ignited. "But you're still a troublemaker," she whispered against his lips.

  "I am?"

"Hm. Look what havoc you've wreaked on me." She opened her robe and carried his hand to her breast. He touched the warm fullness, the taut center.

  "I did that?"

"Yes. And I used to be such a nice girl. I was led astray."

Lightly he pinched the aroused nipple between his fingers. "I'm a naughty boy, all right."

He lowered his head and rubbed his mouth against the hard, rosy peak. His tongue swept it. Again. "You still taste milky." He suckled her as his son had done until a month before.

Cage seemed to draw nurture from her, too. He got lost in her taste and texture. When he stroked his hand up her thigh, he found her dewy with anticipation. His caressing fingers and revolving thumb brought her to the edge of oblivion. Then his manhood claimed her.

"My God, Jenny, I love you so much."

Time was suspended until the universe split open and showered them with light. It took a long while for them to regain their breath. When they did, Cage eased up and smiled down into her shining face.

Her responding grin was slow and sexy and she all but purred when she said, "You're hell on wheels, Cage Hendren."

And it was good because they could laugh about it.

  The End
