“Love you, Roman,” Beth whispered.
Roman turned her, kissed her, dipped her back, and kissed her again as if there wasn’t a soul in the room other than the pair of them. Long, hard, deep, and wet. She wrapped her arms tight and kept kissing him until the kids, and maybe some of the guys, screamed, “Ew!”
“Love you too.” His lips traced against hers.
Finally, when she was standing on her own two feet again, the rounds of congratulations started.
“Thought this was a Christmas party.” Rocco laughed. “Cat’s gonna go into labor she’s so damn excited.”
Parker and Roman did some back slapping.
Parker gave an accusatory eye to Cash and Nicola. “You two knew?”
“Yup.” Nicola bounced her little pregnant body up and down. “So we can get something by Parker.”
“Not bad, huh?” Jared came up behind them. “Princess, looks like you’ve gained a few pounds.”
Nicola punched him in the shoulder and laughed. “Funny. I’d hit you harder, but I’m hungry.” She pecked Cash on the cheek and headed toward the kitchen. She returned seconds later with a slice of cake.
Cake? Beth frowned. “Where’d…?”
Sugar walked by, carrying two plates. “Like there could be wedding without cake.”
Caterina followed with two cranberry juices. They met Nicola on the couch. Sugar sat in the middle, and Beth laughed at the three of them. She walked over, Jared following close behind.
“Drinking juice in solidarity with the girls?” Beth nodded to Sugar. “Very Christmassy.”
Both Caterina and Nicola’s heads turned toward the center of the couch. Nothing about Sugar was very Christmassy, and Beth knew it the second she said the words.
Jared leaned over and whispered into Beth’s ear, “Told you she’d get what she wanted.”
Sugar wanted… a baby? Sitting pretty in the middle of the couch, Sugar raised an eyebrow and her juice. “Cheers.”
Beth’s jaw fell along with Nicola’s and Caterina’s. All the kids ran around the room with disposable cameras, flashes going off along with the twinkle lights in the room.
Jared clapped Beth on the back. “Congratulations. You got a good one.”
Beth shut her mouth, still trying to get her thoughts in order. “You too.”
Roman came over and hugged her from behind. “Mrs. Hart.”
Shivers raced down her back as she turned to face him. “You will never guess what I just found out.”
A flash went off in their faces. “Say cheese!” Clara yelled a few seconds too late.
Beth saw floating lights for a second, then continued, “Our officiant is having a baby.”
“Oh yeah?” He looked at Sugar, then hugged Beth close. “Lucky them.”
“Say cheese!” another kiddo shouted at them.
“Cheese.” Roman took Beth under his arm. He kissed her ear as the kid ran off. “We’ll get you on that couch one day. Just like that.”
Her stomach fluttered. Roman was going to make an amazing daddy.
“My turn,” she said.
“For?”
“Presents.”
He mocked playfully. “We said no presents.”
“Lots of good making up that little rule did.”
“Alright.” He let her lean back in his embrace. “Where’s my present?”
She pulled him toward the kitchen. They passed their friends, took a couple high fives, and chatted along the way about their surprise nuptials before they made it.
“Ready?” she asked as she opened a drawer and extracted an envelope. With a smile, she handed it to him. “Lucky us.”
He turned the pink and blue envelope over in his hand. His eyes went wide then narrowed. When his face came up, he stepped closer to her. If she thought she’d ever seen Roman smile to his fullest before, she was wrong. He radiated. “Yeah?”
“Apparently, there’s something in the water.”
“Beth…” He looked at her sideways then opened the envelope and pulled out a black-and-white sonogram. “That’s our baby?”
She nodded, eyes watering as she watched him stare at their child.
He circled his arms around her, pressing his lips to hers. “Package deal, all the trimmings.”
