"We got a call there was trouble here."
Two uniformed policemen and a detective stood at the door. Savannah recognized Detective Jenkins, who had been working with them on the burglaries. She opened her mouth to answer but once again couldn't make a sound.
It was probably just as well, because he seemed to answer his own question. His eyes fell on the handsome thief and immediately registered recognition. He said in a voice tinged with disgust, "You. I might have known."
The other man returned a smile and another modest lift of his shoulders.
At last Savannah found her voice. "You!" she burst out, rounding on him. "Don't you have a name? Who are you?"
He just grinned, infuriating Savannah.
She turned to Greg Walker. "What's going on here? Who is this person?"
It was with obvious difficulty that Walker dragged his attention away from the envelopes that were in his hand, and the battle between shock and admiration was clearly visible on his face. Finally, he seemed to reach some kind of equanimity with the situation, however, and he replied, more or less evenly, "Relax, Ms. Monterey. This is C. J. Cassidy, our new security consultant."
"Also," added Detective Jenkins dryly, "one of the most notorious burglars on the East Coast."
