“I don’t understand why you would want me. How you could love me? Lincoln, you could do so much better.”

“You begged me not to leave you on that beach. I remembered your words when I came to. Well, I’m asking the same thing. Please don’t leave me, Jensyn. You can rest now. Let go of your past. You do not have to be anyone’s ‘Perfect 10’ ever again. As long as you know, now and always, you are the perfect one for me.

  Chapter 21

  Lincoln

  One year, two months later…

  I loved my life.

  I loved my wife.

  I loved my new boat.

Okay, so it wasn’t actually a boat, but Jensyn called it that. My newest toy was a one-hundred-twenty-five-foot yacht. It had set me back quite a bit, even though my wife had offered to buy it for me as a wedding present. We’d christened it with a bottle of 1982 Dom Pérignon blush, naming it The Perfect 1. We later consecrated all the cabin bedrooms many times over. After a long engagement—her choice, not mine—we’d finally been married six months. Jensyn and I planned the perfect summer vacation to Australia on our yacht with Tiffany’s family, Lucas, and his husband as our guests.

She had spent months recovering from new techniques of facial reconstruction. This wasn’t what I wanted; it had been all her. I was content with the woman she was, but it was important for her to attempt this new procedure. Many of the surgical procedures for rebuilding a face had vastly improved in the last ten years. This was tissue and skin restoration. I had major reservations that if these operations failed, it would hinder the progress she’d made in the last year with Lucas. She assured me she knew the results wouldn't make her modelesque, but it was worth the chance to see if there might be any improvement. I wasn’t thrilled about any of this, but it gave her hope, and I knew that four letter word was almost as important as l-o-v-e.

Three skin and tissue grafts later, her appearance had been altered. This new method was used for burn victim restoration, and it decreased her scarring. Her skin appeared smoother and the damage less apparent. Some of the deeper scars were still quite noticeable, along with the lip reconstruction, but I’d never seen her so elated. Contentment embraced her now.

My beautiful, amazing wife was now the spokesmodel she always yearned to be. Not the kind she’d planned on, but one that gave others determination and hope. She got her fairy tale. The prince (well, maybe), love, and a fulfilling life. And since she achieved all this despite her appearance, she wanted others to know it was possible. Dreams do come true.

Once we went on 20/20 for an interview, the offers for her doing charity work and being the spokesperson for a facial trauma foundation poured in. For myself, I needed the world to know I might have been blind when I fell in love with her, but I married Jensyn after my sight returned. Ours was a romance that had zero to do with cosmetics and everything to do with what’s beneath the surface, the inner beauty. I was the luckiest goddamn man on earth. When you think of fate and everything that fickle bitch does to you, I was truly blessed, and trust me; I was thankful every single day. Marriage was so fucking awesome. I even thought of having Maxwell and Suzanne take vows.

“Sir, we’re ready to push off when you are.”

I looked up from the dock at the man I’d hired to captain this showboat. I chuckled, watching my wife chatting with Tiffany while drinking champagne. She still wore those floppy hats and dark shades, but my lips pursed as she mouthed the words, I love you. I tipped my baseball cap to her, mouthing my reply, then slowly padded up the ramp. I wondered how much writing I was actually going to get done between three rambunctious kids, three alpha males, and making love to my perfect wife.

As far as adventures, this was the greatest of all. God, how I loved this chaotic life.

  About the Author

Cory began writing music and poetry at an early age. Her love of music became her sole focus and she spent quite a few years as the lead singer for local rock bands. In high school, she was fascinated with the macabre and started writing science fiction and horror stories so dark they earned her the nickname "Gory Cory."

After years of writing scary fiction, Cory never thought in a million years she would end up penning sensual tales of younger men/older women. She writes strictly adult material.
