Consumed: A Driven World Novel (The Driven World)

Out of everyone, I didn’t think Trent’ would be the one to openly support me, but I’m so grateful for it.
“Is there anything else you’ve been hiding right under my nose, Gemma, or is this the last of it!?” Dad huffs, showing me his displeasure. I know he isn’t happy with me right now, that he’s worried and afraid of what might happen to me. The most likely is that I spin out and go crashing into the wall, or another driver collides their car into mine, but at the end of the day there’s just as much risk out on the streets every single day with that happening.
There’s only one thing I’ve been hiding from him, something I’ve been hiding from everyone for most of my life. I’m not sure why I look at Brax’, but, I do. I look right at him and know what I’m about to do is insane, but I won’t keep doing this. I won’t keep making sacrifices for other people, not when it could cost me my happiness—the woman who happens to be staring at me from right across the room, in a half gold, half silver dress from the looks of it.
She’s looking right at me, and I can’t stop staring at her.
I nod, confirming there is something I’ve been hiding from him. “Yeah, Dad. There’s something pretty big I have to tell you, but first I need to say my peace. I know you’re terrified I’m going to get hurt and I don’t blame you for it, but, I’m smart. I’ve had the best men surrounding me, showing me what to do and what not to do, so I’m going to start this career whether you like it or not. And I’m sorry if I seem disrespectful, but racing gives me a rush of adrenaline that I’ve never felt before. I’d be stupid to pass it up. This is my dream, and I’m going to follow it. Now, there is a woman across this ballroom that I want you to meet.”
“Sure, bring your friend over.” My dad says, not trying to argue with me in the least bit about anything I’ve said to him. He must believe what my brother said about me being as stubborn as my mom was.
“Dad, she’s not just my friend. She’s my girlfriend, and her name is Keira.”
“No fucking way! I knew it!” Clayton claps his hands together with a laugh, while Brax’ smiles and Trent’ looks like my eyes have just fallen out of socket. Colton on the other hand smiles and I’m pretty sure he’s genuinely happy for me.
“I’ll be back in a moment,” I walk away, heading straight up to her. My heart beats faster than it ever has before as I grow closer to her, venturing across the middle of the ballroom and heading up the small stairwell. She’s standing next to a man, who’s hopefully just a friend of hers.
“Gemma,” she rasps my name as I stand directly in front of her. There’s so much I want to say, but it can wait. I need to do this first.
I glide a hand behind her neck and around her waist, pulling her in for the most sensual kiss I’ve had in my lifetime. I flutter my lips over hers and hold her close, showing her with just this kiss how much she means to me. Keira manages to pull her lips away from mine, stares right into my eyes and whispers. “I missed you. I missed you so damn much.”
“Ditto, and I don’t want to miss you again. I told them, I told them all and it feels so good to get this off my chest, like I’m really living. There isn’t anything holding me back.”
Keira smiles boldly, “There isn’t anything holding us back.”
Damn. I never thought about it like that, but she’s right. We have the entire world at our fingertips now. And while our story has just begun, I know this isn’t anywhere near the end.
Hi Everyone,
I hope you enjoyed reading Consumed. It was my first attempt at contemporary romance and I hope I did a good job at conveying it. Now, while I’m sure some of you are upset the novella is a bit on the shorter side, I’m ecstatic. I’ve left quite a few things open with Keira and Gemma as well as the rest of the Storm family. After talking with Kristy, I’m going to move forward and write novels about the rest of the Storm family. I cannot confirm when these books will be releasing, but I believe I will be writing stories about Poppy, Braxton, Trenton, Clayton, and maybe even Ricky Storm.
Sending much love,
Elizabeth
