Leigh braced her hands on his chest and rode him, slowly, teasing them both until they could hardly breathe. His hands moved over her body, touching her, teasing her breasts, stroking her nipples, until she nearly sobbed from the pleasure he could give her. And still she took more, his hardness sliding in and out of her so slowly as she clenched and squeezed him, making him beg her for more.

Leigh loved how she could make him beg. She loved how she could make him need her so badly.

  “Leigh, please, faster,” he begged.

“How I like it. How I want it. You’re mine,” she told him, taking his mouth in a kiss that was as teasingly, torturously gentle as how she took him deep inside her.

But she needed more, too. She gasped his name as he gripped her hips and thrust up into her. She held on to him as she met him, thrust for thrust, as he drove into her. She couldn’t…

  “Harrison…”

“With me. Leigh, with me,” he demanded, and she felt everything in her tremble on the edge before she flew, with him, on a wave of pleasure so intense and so powerful that she couldn’t think.

All she could do was hold on to him, as their bodies shuddered together, and let herself go.

“I’m not moving,” mumbled Leigh, a few minutes later.

She couldn’t, anyway. Her arms and legs felt like they had forgotten how.

“That’s all right. You can stay right here,” Harrison told her, holding her tight.

He shifted, until they were lying on their sides, in each other’s arms.

“So, did we actually manage to find a compromise?”

Harrison chuckled at Leigh’s wry tone.

  “It looks like we did.”

“It’s excellent practice for the rest of our lives. I have a feeling we’ll have to find a lot of compromises.”

Harrison smiled at the woman he loved, with all of his heart, fondly.

“I have a feeling we’ll manage just fine.”

“I have a feeling we will, too. We should tell Mom and Dad. And Emily. And Hana, she’ll have to know. Maybe we can throw a party here – Hana would love to come here. And the next time we have something interesting going on, that wouldn’t bore you, you could come down to campus and spend some time with me.”

Harrison felt the last bit of weight that he hadn’t known he was holding on to lift off him.

Leigh was letting him in again.

“That would be nice. And there are a bunch of balls and dinners coming up. I’ll need to make an appearance at a few. If they don’t interfere with school…”

“I guess I can’t let you deal with the rubbery chicken alone. Especially if they try to do that horrible so-called mushroom risotto. Who caters these things? Even if they hold the dinner at hotels with excellent restaurants, it’s always awful food.”

  Harrison grinned.

“It will be nice to have you there with me. Leigh…Leigh, I told you that I can explain…”

Leigh silenced him with a soft kiss.

“You told me that nothing happened. Nothing happened, right?”

  Harrison nodded emphatically.

  “Nothing happened.”

“That’s enough for me for now. Maybe, if it’s a funny story and everybody else knows it, you could tell me later. So that I don’t stand there like a fool when they’re talking about it.”

Harrison pulled her closer and kissed her again, softly.

  “I will,” he promised.

It was a night for promises. And the night had just begun.

“For now,” he whispered, his hand sliding down her bare skin, sensually, and Leigh’s breath caught in her throat.

How could he do that to her with just the simplest of touches? How could he wake her up and make her hum with need so easily?

  “Harrison…”

“I’m not done with you tonight, Leigh. I want more of you. I want to touch you, and taste you, and… You’re already wet for me,” he whispered, sliding his hand down her bottom and between her legs, feeling her lips swollen and slick from the need he had awakened in her again.

“I am. I need you. I’ll always need you,” said Leigh, and they lost themselves in each other, in everything they could evoke in each other, all over again.

  Three years later…

  “You were magnificent.”

Harrison was glowing with pride as he watched his Leigh – she was his Leigh – standing tall, that ridiculous gown and hat suiting her right down to the ground.

“So are you,” said Leigh, and hugged him impulsively.

“Hey Harrison, can we bum a limo off you or something?”

Hana, audacious as ever, walked up to them with that cheeky grin on her face.

“Somehow, I knew that you would ask,” remarked Harrison, as Hana tugged the gown off unceremoniously.

  “Of course you did. And?”

“And I’ve already arranged for it.”

  Hana whooped.

“Emily! I thought I saw you. Got yourself fired recently?”

Emily grabbed Hana, who was now a fast friend, in a hug before turning to Leigh and Harrison.

“You’re wearing the rock,” said Emily, almost casually.

Leigh glanced down at her hand, where the rock – the emerald, surrounded by little diamonds – was indeed on her ring finger.

  “I am. It’s time.”

“I think so, too. I think we should have a party at Harrison’s place. Don’t you think we should have a party there? An army could party there.”

  Harrison sighed.

“I had a feeling you’d say that, too, so I arranged for that, as well. I… Ah, finally, Martha and Samuel have managed to tear themselves away from their friends.”

“I’m so proud of you, darling,” said Martha, for the twentieth time. Samuel beamed, and his smile wasn’t dimmed by the sight of Harrison’s arm around Leigh’s waist.

Time, thought Leigh, could do some wonderful things.

“I say that we go out for dinner with Mom and Dad, and after that, we have that party. I don’t think Mom and Dad would enjoy it.”

  Martha shuddered.

“I can only be glad that I don’t have to deal with the aftermath like I did at your high school graduation parties,” said Martha, and Leigh was happier than she could remember being.

Her worlds – they weren’t so separate after all. She had only needed to find a compromise. It all worked.

Later – much later – she found herself in Harrison’s arms, where she belonged.

“Have you decided what you’re going to do?”

Leigh was quiet for a moment.

She had offers – she had graduated almost top of the class, and she had plenty of offers. Including an offer from her old firm, which had always been part of her plan. She knew how things worked there. She knew she could rise there.

  And yet…

“I think I want to join Roger Hutton’s practice,” she said, softly.

She knew that Harrison had come to terms with that long ago. But if he wanted to go into business with Diane Masters, in something that meant that he would work in close proximity with her, she might have a few misgivings, no matter how much she trusted him.

She was human, after all. It was a human failing.

Harrison was quiet for a while.

“That means that you’ll be here, in the city, with me.”

  “Yes.”

“Is this what you truly want, Leigh?”

  Leigh knew it was.

She had discovered that she had a knack for criminal law, after all. And she had found that what she really wanted to do was find a way to balance the scales of justice.

Being a public defender – she would be that, too, when she worked with Roger – was what she needed to do. There wouldn’t be the fame and fortune that she could’ve had with any of the big law firms that had offered her jobs and benefits of all kinds.

And she didn’t want those benefits. She didn’t want those perks, she realized.r />
She wanted to know that what she did with her life would have some impact on people who needed that help.

“I think so. No, I know it is. This is what I want.”

“Then I’m with you, every step of the way. Besides, Roger seems to be fairly happy with his wife now.”

  Leigh chuckled.

Roger had found what he deserved, about a year ago. He had rescued a damsel in distress, fallen in love with her, and given her his heart and his name. Now she was on the verge of giving him a child – something else he hadn’t known he needed so desperately in his life.

“He is. He’s so thrilled with how his life has turned out. And Mia is amazing – in every way. I want to help women like Mia. There are so many women like Mia.”

“You will help them. You’ll do everything you want to do, Leigh. I have faith in you. You’ll be a light in the world, like you are to me. I’ll be a proud man when they write about me as your husband.”

The burst of affection she felt for him was almost too much to contain, as she held on to him and kissed him soundly.

“We have come a long way, haven’t we?”

  Harrison chuckled.

“A very long way. Longer than I thought we’d have to. But we’ve managed, I think.”

Leigh was quiet for a moment.

“Harrison, I think it’s time we set a date. And plan that wedding.”

“Are you sure? You don’t have to be pressured into it.”

“I’m not. Besides,” went on Leigh, with a rather wicked grin, “it’ll be great publicity for Roger and me to be written up in the papers.”

  Harrison chuckled.

“You are incorrigible. And I love you. We’ll set the date. We’ll do it right.”

“We will,” affirmed Leigh, and she knew that they already were.

  The end.

  "You've done WHAT?"

Cherrelle Mason couldn't believe what she was hearing. She stared at her father, who was sitting in his chair like he was God, watching her with an expressionless face. But Cherrelle knew that look; behind it he was gloating.

He had her on the back foot and liked seeing her squirm.

"That's no need to shout, Cherrelle." Her mother scolded from the armchair where she sat, back straight and hands folded in her lap. "You know that's un-ladylike."

  "Ma, I'm thirty years old!"

"And you should know better." Emily Mason shook her head like she was talking to a child. "I don't see why you're so upset. Any woman would kill to be getting married to the most eligible bachelor in the country."

"You mean the most eligible creep," Cherrelle snapped. "Ma, you know I dislike Jason Colney. He's arrogant, egotistical, and thinks a woman's place is in the kitchen or on her back."

  Logan Mason scoffed.

"Don't be ridiculous, Cherrelle. Jason has expressed an interest in you for a long time and you keep knocking him back."

"I knock him back because I don't like him, Pa. And he's only interested in my money, not me. That bit is obvious."

Cherrelle had known it was bad news when Logan had called her in the middle of the day during a business meeting, telling her that she needed to come back to their home immediately. Cherrelle had told him she couldn't get there until after working hours, but he was insistent, even telling her to throw everyone out of the meeting. Her father was used to getting what he wanted; a man born into money and sat on billions he owned through inheritance rather than hard work. He believed the rules didn't apply to him or his family.

Cherrelle had hated being a trust-fund baby and lounging around at home doing nothing. She wanted to actually earn her money. Which was why, including the billions she had inherited, she was a billionaire in her own right. Through hard work.

It had meant sacrificing a lot, including the majority of a social life. But Cherrelle didn't care; she was happy.

Apparently her parents didn't think so. They had arranged for her to marry a man she despised without informing her until nearly everything was sorted except for a wedding date. And she was furious.

"He's a nice boy." Emily countered calmly. "Very handsome."

"Boy? He's over forty!" Cherrelle ran her hands through her pixie cut. "I can't believe this. I'm in charge of a world-popular internet site, I have billions in my account, and I'm getting forced into marriage like it’s two hundred years ago."

"No one is being forced into anything," Logan said sharply. "We agreed when you were twenty-one that if you weren't married by the time you were thirty, you would let us arrange a suitable husband for you."

"You agreed. I didn't," Cherrelle pointed out. "And Jason is hardly suitable. He wants my company and I'm not letting him take it."

  "That never came up."

"It will. Trust me." Cherrelle leaned her hands on her father's desk, ignoring the disapproving eyebrow raise. "He's power hungry and he's been after my company for years. Becoming my husband, in his eyes, means he has access. I'm not letting him have any sort of access. And I'm certainly not marrying him."

Logan looked like he was a step away from losing his
temper. Cherrelle recognized the signs, but, for once, she didn't care. She was just as angry. Logan may have used his spare time to pump iron so he was as big as a house, his cue-ball adding to the effect, but he wasn't a businessman. While he thought he was smart and could spot a liar a mile off, Cherrelle knew he was easy pickings because of the money.

Emily was the same. She had come from a wealthy family and had had menial jobs where she had simply sat and done her nails. Marrying Logan and becoming a housewife had been the best moment of her life. But she had refused to carry a baby and ruin her body, so a surrogate had been hired to carry their baby, resulting in Cherrelle. Tall and statuesque with long flowing black hair held up in a fancy French twist away from her smooth chocolate-brown skin, she was a beauty who cared more for her image than her daughter, which had ended with Cherrelle bonding more with her nannies and tutors than with her parents.

It would certainly explain why they were willing to marry her off and treat her opinions like nothing.

  Logan sat forward.

"Give me one good reason why you're going back on our agreement."

  "There was no agreement!"

"There isn't anyone else, Cherrelle," Emily said calmly. "We would've known about it by now."

Cherrelle swung round on her. The words were out of her mouth before she could stop them.

"Of course there's someone." Then she realized what she had said. Her parents were staring at her, both clearly surprised. Cherrelle gulped and started to think on her feet. "I...I've just been keeping him secret. You know I don't like the press poking into my life."

"A boyfriend? How nice." Emily sounded like she was talking about the latest fashion. "What's his name?"

"What? Tell you and you'll immediately tell the papers?" Cherrelle snorted as Emily's face went red. "I know you're best friends with that magazine editor and she's not above publishing anything she hears on those girly nights. She's done it before."

"Don't be so rude about Wendy!" Emily gasped, the redness turning into an annoyed flush. "She's not like that."

"Really? Then why is it everything I tell you in confidence ends up in her magazine? I doubt she can read minds, so you must be telling her something."
