by Todd Fries

  The sequel to Trappist-1

Follow their adventure as they begin to colonize Trappist-1e

  INTRODUCTION:

The greatest gift a man can ever receive is to understand the limits of his capabilities. Inside every human resides the urge to be the master of his environment, pitting inner strength and intellectual power against the raw forces of nature. For some, it’s the only thing that makes them feel alive.

When a group of explorers set out to prove that establishing a colony on a planet named Trappist-1e is the divine will of their Creator, they begin farming a small plot of land on the shore of that distant world. When circumstances change, they’re forced to return home early, which means they must not only prove their case to a divided and angry world, but also convince them to be allowed to return. As an incentive to force a second expedition, Nickolas Roshenko volunteers to stay behind - alone - in order to keep the experiment alive.

During the time they’re apart, Nickolas finds himself tested again and again, and with each new challenge must reach deep within himself to solve the puzzles of this new world. Using every bit of his vast experience, he finds himself on bitter terms with nature and unless he can overcome the brutal wrath of Trappist-1e, he might not live to see them return.

While he struggles to survive, his friends are engaged in a war of nerves against a maniacal government agency back on Earth, where they are pushed to their limits in their quest to save humanity from themselves. In the process of establishing the truth of their story, one sympathetic Air Force colonel will uncover the reality of what they truly recovered on Trappist-1e, even if they don’t yet understand it themselves. And what she discovers will not only set them free, but rock the foundations of science and change the nature of human existence forever.

  “Apollo 19”

Available as a kindle or printed book

Apollo 19 is the prequel to the book ‘Orion 1 – The Return to Stellae Mysterium’.

  (BOOK 1 of 3)

According to history, Apollo 17 was the last manned mission to the Moon. However, the truth may be far different than what was reported as fact.

When Luna 12 was launched, it captured some of the first photos of the lunar surface and within those a grainy image appeared, which was confirmed by future Apollo missions as being an archaeological site of incredible interest to mankind. Amidst a veil of secrecy, the US and Soviets conspired to explore the location at any cost, sending a team to the Moon to excavate, document and retrieve artifacts of great value.

In 1975, using the Apollo/Soyuz operation as a distraction, they executed one of the greatest adventures of discovery in human history. Fresh off of the Apollo Moon missions, the infrastructure and equipment were still in place to achieve the goal, and amidst a perfect storm of coincidence and opportunity, they took a giant leap into the unknown.

The only evidence? An object named 2010 KQ. It is a smoking gun that remains in solar orbit as an unwelcome reminder of this politically charged battle for control of information, which could have changed the balance of world power at the time. While the mission was a success, the needs of the time dictated a policy of absolute secrecy. This story reveals their intriguing saga of courage and hope. Join their adventure as they travel into the unknown, searching for the answer to one of the greatest questions of mankind. Are we alone?

  Orion 1

  (Book 2 of 3)

Available as a kindle or printed book

Major Brooks turned to Hannah and ordered her to look away while covering her eyes. Neither of them had vision protection, so as they turned from the window, they used their hands to cover their eyes while facing the rear of the command module. The light from a nuclear explosion could be blinding. A human required a full thirtieth of a second to register motion and within a tenth of a second there was a flash so intense that Hannah could still perceive the light through her hands and eyelids before it slowly faded away. Then looking out the port hole she saw a large cloud rising from the lunar surface as the land below it roiled in waves of smoke and dust.

Forty years had passed since the covert lunar landing by the crew of Apollo 19 and now a new generation had been sent to finish the work of understanding this alien lunar construction - at a place named ‘Stellae Mysterium.’ It was here that the original crew discovered wonders beyond imagination, but the diplomatic needs of the time prevented anyone from returning to the Moon for a period of fifty years.

It would have remained that way except for a breach of security by a Chinese hacker who stole all the sensitive data regarding this alien excavation, and now China was determined to claim this site for themselves as a base of lunar operations. Whoever controlled the structure and the power it contained would control the entirety of space between the Earth and Moon.

China was threatening US satellite technology by testing kinetic kill vehicles, launched as missiles into outer space. They were making aggressive moves in the South China Sea, buzzing US warships and manipulating their currency in an economic war.

The US needed to respond militarily and technically by studying the incredible strength of the materials used by the alien builders and to decode the meaning of their written language. If they could duplicate the incredible impact resistance of this substance, they could protect satellite technology from any natural or man-made threat.

As tensions continue to rise in the South China Sea and on the Moon, will the explorers be put in a position of having to make the ultimate sacrifice? Follow their adventure as they explore the mysteries of this site while weighing the needs of 7 billion people on Earth.

  INTRODUCTION

The Moon raced away like a startled rabbit, diminishing at a rapid pace as he pushed the throttle forward. There was no feeling of acceleration as he propelled the ship to its limit, trying to see how fast he could travel, but he had no frame of reference, no speed indicator. Only the three-dimensional targeting system that occupied the panel in front of him. He watched as the Orion disappeared from view and the Earth rotated down and away like a blue pearl on a black velvet pillow. His mind expected to see Europe, Africa or North America, but instead he saw the Arctic Circle gleaming like a sparkling jewel in the Sun.

He had no idea where he was going and he became disoriented trying to place himself relative to the Earth and Moon. He glanced back at the flight display and tapped his finger on the sphere of the Earth before it became too small to locate. A flashing icon hovered over the planet and when he touched it again, the symbol locked onto the target and displayed his position relative to his home. A wide arc signified his flight path and with no specific direction of travel, he was randomly flying in a retrograde orbit with no particular destination.

In that moment he felt a tinge of fear. He had never been this far from home and he wondered what he had been thinking when he hijacked this alien vessel and flew away without so much as a word to his companions. Had he lost his mind? He pulled back on the stick and brought the craft to a complete stop. In the vastness of space, the scene around him had degraded into a black expanse with a spattering of stars and then a bright ball of fire sitting in the dark void of infinity.

Before he left, Jin had touched the display and stretched it until it encompassed the ceiling, walls and floor and he felt as if he were floating freely in space with nothing around him but the eternity of the universe. The resolution was incredible and nothing interfered with his field of vision. When he was hovering over the Moon, that landscape filled the space below him and the Earth shone brightly from above and when he looked for his crew, he could discern the Orion as a point of light moving across the sky, but now, only stars.

In that moment, the guilt filled his soul. Jin Lei was still a stranger to him. Just an annoying member of the crew that kept to himself, dreaming of sales and profits and when he volunteered to die for the rest of them, he never said a word.

/>   It was one thing to have a man like Jesus die for his sins, but another to have a virtual stranger take the fall for himself along with 7 billion people on Earth. Who could do that? And how could he hope to be half the man that he was?

He sat back in his chair. This ship was perfect. It wasn’t even drifting. The scene before him didn’t move or spin. Whatever was holding him here was keeping him exactly as he was the instant he stopped the vessel. There were no visible thrusters, no rockets or openings of any type. It was as if the space craft could breathe like a living creature, using its breath to hold him steady even when he moved about inside the confines of the control room, never reacting to his shifting mass.

  “A Shattering of Innocence”

Available as a kindle or printed book.

  INTRODUCTION:

“The most important moral questions in our lives are the questions we fear the most, and until we have the courage to stand up and acknowledge them, we can never truly become the people we are meant to be.”

There are moments in our lives, when the best and worst of times coincide with the discovery of choices we never knew existed. Only when we are ready to face those difficult questions, can we come to terms with making decisions that require a sacrificial love, combined with a high personal price.

When a single criminal event intrudes on the lives of Todd and his friends, another boy named Dan finds his life torn to pieces by the same lawless act. While these two never meet or communicate in any productive way, they must both make critical decisions without the benefit of knowing what the other is thinking or feeling. Challenged by racial bigotry and ignorance, the characters awaken to an understanding of love, friendship, self-respect, faith and finally courage.

With everything hanging in the balance, forces beyond their control conspire to drive them both to face the personal moral questions they have avoided their entire lives, and as time runs out for Dan, will anyone step up to save him?

This is a tale of loyalty and conformity contrasted against independence and tolerance. It’s about making choices that have life changing implications in the face of almost impossible social barriers. In the end, it’s about facing an ultimate reality of life, which is putting yourself at risk without having all the information, which is commonly referred to as a “leap of faith.”

Discover their journey as they find the joy in pain and the hope in despair.

“My Parents’ Generation and the Year the World Changed.”

Available as a kindle or printed book

  INTRODUCTION:

It was a world of innocence and play, for these last children of the baby boomer years, yet their world was rapidly changing around them and at the heart of it all was the values and character of the generation that raised them.

This story centers around the moral, ethical and social ideals that the older generation passed down to the younger and how the kids interpreted, mimicked and then generated their own value system, based on their parents, neighbors and the community around them.

It is told from the perspective of a child in a story that will make you laugh, cry and force you to think about the way you were raised and how we raise our children today by subtly revealing the acceptable norms of the time.

This book does not use clinical terms or review case studies in child rearing, nor does it suggest that parenting methods are any better or worse than those employed by our greatest generation. It simply provides a historical perspective of a slice of life, in a small space of time, in a neighborhood not too long ago and does it in the form of an entertaining story that will leave you wanting for more.

The story reveals the influence and care of all of those around us, who shaped our being and drove our character, and helps us to appreciate that we are sum of everyone we have ever known.

These two opposing personalities find very little in common as they become locked in mortal combat over Elias and his bizarre business and personal antics.

Like Jonah, who was in the belly of the whale for three days, Tom is trapped with this strange and unusual man who continues to draw lines in the sand that Tom is forced to cross time and time again. Pushing all boundaries of reason and logic, Elias will take them on a trip laced with adventure, humor and a little bit of hell as Tom learns as much about himself as he does about Elias and the “human condition.”
