“Wait. Is my sister here?”
Myles laughed and guided her a few more feet. Instead of answering her question, he removed the bandana from over her eyes.
Geneva blinked several times, trying to get her eyes to adjust to the brightness of the space.
“Surprise!”
Her heart hitched, and her mouth dropped open at the sight before her. Placing her hand on her chest, Geneva stood speechless.
“What is this?” she asked.
Her gaze bounced around the large, beautifully decorated space, and the smiling faces staring back at her. There had to be at least fifty people there, and it looked as if they had recreated her salon, except on a larger scale. Everything from the pink and black paint job to the hot pink salon chairs she’d had at her old place. Instead of six work stations, there were eight. Where she stood, she could also see a shampoo area and dryers toward the back of the building.
“I can’t believe this,” she whispered, still taking it all in. “How…” Her words caught in her throat as emotion swirled inside of her.
“It was a team effort,” Journey said, walking toward her with two champagne flutes. She handed one to Geneva and the other one to Myles. “But mostly, your man did this.”
“Trust me; I had a lot of help. I couldn’t have done it without all of you,” Myles said to the group and lifted his glass to them.
Geneva looked at him through teary eyes and fell in love with him all over again. “How were you able to keep this a secret?”
Before he could answer, Collin and Coco seemed to come out of nowhere. They ran toward her, and Collin practically knocked her over when he wrapped his arms around her legs. When he looked up at her with eyes that were so similar to his father’s, her heart melted.
“Surprise!” he screamed. “Do you like it?”
Geneva laughed through her tears and bent down to kiss his cheek. “Baby, I love it.”
For the next thirty minutes, Geneva was overwhelmed by all of the love in the building. All her family and friends, and even the stylists from her old shop, were there. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d been hugged and kissed so much, but she loved every minute of it.
“Come with me,” Myles whispered near her ear, then grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the back of the building. In his other hand was the picnic basket.
They walked down a small hall, then stopped at the last door on the left. He pushed it open, and Geneva gasped.
“Oh, Myles. You’re just full of surprises today.”
She strolled into her new office, which wasn’t much bigger than the old one, but it didn’t matter. In the center of the room was a small table for two covered in a white tablecloth with a candle flickering in the center.
“Here’s the picnic I promised,” he said and set the basket down before pulling her into his arms. “Happy anniversary, sweetheart.”
Geneva wrapped her arms around his neck and couldn’t stop grinning. “If this is what you do for a two-month dating anniversary, what are you going to do when we’ve been together for a year?”
“I guess you’ll just have to stick around and find out.”
He lowered his head and kissed her, and Geneva’s heart sang. She didn’t know what the future held, but she knew she’d be spending it with her amazing man.
