“I’ll see you at supper. Don’t forget about those cookies,” he teased, winking.
Before she could turn back to her task, Race cupped her face in his hands, and pressed his lips to hers again, taking his time. She savored his kiss, the heat and beauty of it. Finally, he broke the kiss, peering down into her eyes, the violet darkening to indigo.
“We’ll continue this tonight…” he growled. “I love you, Katriona.”
“And I love you, Race,” she declared, her heart dancing.
His mouth curled into a wicked grin. “Tonight…I promise.”
She trembled but said nothing, only watched him stride from the room, a swagger in his steps.
A few minutes after her husband was out the door for the work day, Katriona was settling down at the writing desk. Race had built it for her the month before when she said that once she was heavier with child, she wanted to work from home more. She still hadn’t bothered to learn to ride a horse, and the long walks into town were getting more difficult. Ray offered to drive her into town whenever she wanted, but Katriona liked walking. It gave her time to think, to plan, to dream about the future and all the promise it held for her and her little family.
She smiled to herself, thinking about the baby clothes the sewing class was making for her.
Taking up a pencil and sliding a fresh piece of paper onto the desk top, she licked the pencil tip and began.
