Fairy tales for a modern age!

Once upon a time was never like this. Imagine some of the most famous stories in Western culture set at contemporary American schools. What if fairy tales went back to their roots as fables and didn’t necessarily end with “happily ever after”?

John’s Modern Fairy Tale series will introduce you to stories you already know in a whole new way. Cautionary tales, they explore 21st Century America through tales as old as time.

  Bullies. Boys. Friends. Shakespeare.

  Demonic Dogs. Evil Spirits.

  You know, sixth grade.

Sixth grade is hard enough. When the school bully is on your case because you got the lead in the play instead of her, when the cutest boy in the whole class might actually like you but never makes a move, and when your dad is an alcoholic and you have to cook, clean, and take care of your little brother, the last thing you need is more trouble.

But Sally Prescott has more trouble than she ever imagined when she starts having strange dreams of demonic dogs, magical keys, and a wolf-headed spirit bent on her destruction. Her best friend knows a secret that may help, but she refuses to tell, claiming Sally made her promise not to.

As Sally's dreams start bleeding into reality, she realizes she is the only who can save her family. With a little bit of magic and a lot of determination, she'll get one chance to change her destiny and theirs. If she succeeds, she'll solve her problems at home and at school. If she fails, she'll lose everyone she ever loved.

Turns out sixth grade is tougher than she thought.

Be careful what you wish for. . . .

Rory Bellin dreams of a better life, yearning to be taken seriously for her accomplishments – she’s editor-in-chief of the school paper, president of three clubs, and on track to graduate with a 4.0 GPA and admission to Yale. But all anyone cares about is Lawrence high School regaining its former football glory.

Caleb Johnson derams of a better life, wanting to lead LHS to its first football championship in eighteen years and to date the most beautiful girl in school, Rory Bellin. But, as a third-string running back, he never plays, he has a face no one could love, and, whenever he tries to talk to Rory, his usually glib tongue turns to clay.

But maybe Mr. Nickleby, the mysterious new English teacher, can help. He has the key to both their desires. He’s willing to make their dreams come true.

Of course, getting what you wish for has a price, but that doesn’t matter, right? If you want something badly enough, you’ll do anything to get it, no matter what it costs. Even if it’s your sould.

Be careful what you wish for . . . you might just get it!

  About the Author

John R. Phythyon, Jr. wishes he were a superhero or a magician, but, since he has not yet been bitten by a radioactive spider or received his letter from Hogwarts, he writes adventure stories instead. He is the author of the Wolf Dasher series of fantasy-thriller mash-up novels, several modern fairy tales, a two-act comedy, and a series of humorous memoirs about his childhood in the 1970’s (the “True-Life Adventures” series). Prior to becoming a novelist, he was an award-winning game designer.

He lives in Columbus, Ohio, with his wife, their children, a dog, and a cat. It is rarely quiet, but it’s often entertaining. His current projects include the next book in the Wolf Dasher series, world peace, and desperately wishing for the Cincinnati Bengals to win a Super Bowl in his lifetime.
