Nia explained to Victor that in the morning they would be leaving and that he should grab anything that he wanted to keep. Tonight would be the last night they would call Acresville their home. Victor understood and began sorting through his possessions for the items that he wanted to keep. Within an hour he’d gathered everything and had decided to take a shower before they left.

Nia listened to the upstairs shower turn on. She could feel the cold water as it touched Victor’s skin. The water was invigorating as she felt Victor scrub his body clean with soap. Nia soon found herself standing outside in the hallway. A strange sensation washed over her while her progeny rinsed off. Hidden in the hallway; she watched as Victor stepped out of the shower once he’d finished washing himself.

He didn’t bother to dry off as Nia watched him. She wondered if he knew that she was watching him from the hallway. It wasn’t surprising that he would want to look at himself in the mirror. It was something that all newborns did when they are first turned. It was interesting to her that she could count every drop of water on him. They slowly traveled across his skin towards the ground; she watched them build at the end of his hair. Slowly his hand began to rise until if landed on his chest so that he could feel his heart.

It would only beat a few times a day now. Right now it would still feel the same as before. It would feel as though he’d died and been reborn. She remembered hearing long ago that Volstir constantly struggled with the idea that they might not be alive.

Someone as old as Olivia would only feel their heart actually beat once every five years. It was difficult trying to discern what was real; and what was a trick of the mind. Were they a different species or something that only existed in human legends? The Volstir considered themselves to be alive despite having an extremely slow heartbeat. They would always have moments when they would struggle with the idea of what being alive was.

The brown and white cat appeared beside her as Victor turned around. He didn’t say a word and instead looked into her eyes. She was not surprised that he could stand naked in front of her without shame. She could feel that his current thoughts and emotions were overpowering any other thoughts of modesty. It was never easy to look into a mirror and not recognize the reflection staring back.

He felt the same but at the same time felt completely different. Taking a few steps forwards Nia walked up and wrapped her arms around him. The muscles in his body stiffened for only a moment before relaxing in her arms. The feelings he had would pass however it was Nia’s responsibility to help him.

“I know how you feel Victor; but always remember that we are not dead. We are not monsters. Like every other creature that lives on this planet we are alive. We do what we have to so we can stay alive” Nia explained gently to him while she looked into his eyes.

The emotions would fade from him but it didn’t make it any less difficult. They could be very erratic in the beginning. Their bodies were constantly changing which would affect their hormone levels. Until the change was completed, they were often not to be expected to be accountable for their actions. Victor looked down at her and nodded; the emptiness he felt inside began to fade. Nia slowly lifted herself onto her toes as she kissed him gently on the forehead.

Suddenly, a heat started to rise inside of him as his blood quickened. His emotions began to stir rapidly as desires began to grow. Nia could feel the strong sexual urge swell inside him. It was stronger than when he was human as Nia began to feeling the same desire. Without a word she quickly turned and walked away to allow him privacy. It would be embarrassing if she lost herself because her progeny was turned on. She would have to be more guarded in the future.

It hadn’t been the first time that she’d felt a sexual urge rise in Victor. When he’d entered puberty she had felt it all the time. She had likely been a part of his fantasies on more than one occasion. Hormones could be powerful and just like then; his body was acting without his thoughts. Within an hour he joined her in the living room; fully clothed.

The two of them did not say a word as they finished preparing for their trip. It was hard dealing with rebirth for both of them. Victor had his new heightened hormones to get under control. Nia had to control her ability before it could cause trouble for both of them. Many Volstir with the empath ability would find themselves in a relationship with their progeny. They were unable to keep their emotions separated.

This type of relationship rarely turned out well. Often the desires and thoughts were only one sided and not actually mutual. Someone would get hurt and the relationship typically ended with one of them dead. When Victor was human she could push the thoughts away easily. Now that he was a turned it would be more difficult and would require more discipline from her. It was important that she stay in control at all times in order to prevent reoccurring mistakes.

Dawn was arriving as Nia swallowed one of the blood pills and stepped outside. The sun began to rise and for a moment she felt the familiar burn on her skin. After a few minutes the burning began to ease until it faded completely away. Nia would have two days if she avoided stepping outside unnecessarily. Watching the colors in the sky blend and separate; she smiled at the simple event. Humans often slept through the dawn because they could. She wondered if they would feel the same if they were to have it taken away.

Victor was a bit more hesitant to step outside and Nia understood why. it was a common fear amongst the newborns that they would be an exception. They were afraid that being in sunlight would kill them. After a moment Victor relaxed and walked out to his shiny red truck. It had been a birthday gift several years ago but it meant more to him than she would ever know. It was the only thing Nia had ever gotten him for his birthday and had been a complete surprise.

He knew that she cared about him and didn’t ignore his birthdays on purpose. Time was something that Volstir had trouble with. They stopped celebrating their own birthdays and often forgot about them completely. Nia was happy when she had remembered Victor’s eighteenth birthday. To this day she couldn’t figure out how she knew what day it was. It was possibly due to the hints Victor had given her throughout the years. Somehow it had finally managed to stick inside her head. It was a cherished memory that they shared and would never forget. Today would be another memory that they would share.

Together they watched the fire spread to the living room. This was the third home they shared and like the others it had to be burnt to the ground. It would appear to be electrical so that nobody would suspect the truth. They needed to destroy all evidence that a Volstir had ever lived in Acresville. Silently the pair of Volstir’s watched the second floor collapse as the fire grew. They lived in a remote area and knew that the fire department wouldn’t arrive for a few more hours.

Nia regretted not being able to allow Victor the chance to say goodbye to the people he knew. He was used to it however as he looked and smiled at her. No matter how he really felt; Victor had never once complained about leaving a home. All he would do is watch the house they lived in burn while smiling. He would then walk away carrying a small box with precious items in his hands. It was his tradition that seemed to help him adjust to the difficulties he had in life.

Nia had wondered what was inside his memory box and knew that if she’d asked he would tell her. Throughout their years together she’d never once asked about it. Victor had given up so much to be allowed to stay with her and was entitled to some privacy. The small box belonged to him and Nia would never take it away. It was perhaps the only thing that would ever be truly his.

“You ready to get on the road?” Nia asked with a smile while their house continued burning behind them.

Victor walked up and opened the passenger door for her. It was a tradition that he’d started whenever he’d learned how to drive. He would always open her door and let her get in first. She sat in the truck with En in her lap looking a bit agitated with the loss of his toys. The cat had always been the biggest whiner when it came to moving. Silently, they watched the sun rise a
nd began to drive away. They were leaving an old life and driving towards a new one.

Chapter Six: Thirst of the Volstir

Rain clouds formed early in the morning as they passed the county line. Soon they could see the rain fall all around them. The raindrops looked like diamonds falling from the sky in the sunlight. It would help them by washing away evidence they might have left. Nia enjoyed the rain and took in the clean smell that came from it. Unfortunately; it didn’t last long and was replaced with a humid heat that made her clothes stick to her body.

Hours of driving and miles away from civilization, the three travelers spent the morning in silence. Several times Nia had felt Victor’s desires for her. Every time they appeared she began to feel the same desires swell in her. The air was hot and muggy which caused Victor to remove his shirt. The sweat could be seen on the muscles that made up his chest. The sight wouldn’t help quell the feelings that Nia had to struggle with.

By midafternoon they had pulled over along the side of the road so that Victor could relief himself. En left them so that he could hunt in a nearby field. Nia did not mind since it allowed her to get out and stretch her legs. Grabbing a paper towel, she began wiping the sweat from her own body. She wore a simple tank top and jeans though they did nothing to fight off the heat. Her body was starting to wish that she could remove her top. Nia however had enough sense to keep it on as her eyes found Victor.

His skin seemed different than it had when he was a human. His muscles also seemed more noticeable. It was difficult to imagine that he was the same person before he was turned. The blue jeans that he wore seemed tighter than it had last week. She found herself admiring his butt while trying to get control over herself. A bad feeling crept into her mind as Nia began wondering if Victor had always had a cute rear. Quickly she began looking for something that could distract her mind.

Her Polong began walking away from the field and disappeared into the woods. He was always looking for something to eat. Unlike Nia; the Blood Transfusion would have no effect on En. Polongs were naturally given certain immunities that Volstirs did not. Meaning that En could walk in the sun with or without another’s blood. The down side was an insatiable appetite meaning he would have to constantly feed. It didn’t bother them too much since En could survive on strictly animal blood. He could also hunt for them without looking suspicious.

Victor came out of the woods slowly while zipping up his pants. Shame spread inside Nia because she had caught herself looking before his zipper was pulled up. She could feel the heat inside of him as strongly as before. Her mind began trying to find a way to destroy his pants. It was embarrassing to think that she wanted a reason to have Victor naked.

Exhausted by the constant desire; Nia wished that she could shut off her empath ability. She didn’t want to suffer the same urges that Victor was feeling. It was easy to see that he was struggling with himself and his desires. He looked at her with lust in his eyes that made Nia weak in the knees. Somehow she had to take back control of the situation.

“En should be back in about twenty minutes” Nia said as she walked around and sat down on the bed of the truck.

She hoped that Victor would hop back inside the cab and wait. Luck however was not on her side as she heard his footsteps. Slowly, Victor walked around and stood in front of her. Her body began to ache as the two of them looked at each other. The droplets of sweat that were on their bodies could easily be seen by both. Nia could see that they were looking like a pair of horny teenagers but she could remove the thoughts.

“That sounds perfect” Victor said in a voice that sounded more animal than human.

They were both starting to breathe heavier as he took a step closer. They kept their eyes locked on each other. Slowly he came closer to her as she sat frozen. His hands were soft as he wrapped his arms around her hips. Electricity surged throughout her body as she felt her skin tingle from his touch. They were too close to each other however Nia did nothing to create any distance.

Her mind screamed inside her head as Victor leaned in so that she could see his lips. They looked soft and gentle; she didn’t resist when he began kissing her. The strength in his hands could be felt as her tank top was ripped apart. All of her resolve failed instantly as his lips began kissing her skin. She felt her hands reach for his pants as she unzipped them. Within moments they were thrown away onto the ground.

The heat inside of her body was boiling as her mind began thinking about Andrew. For a moment she tried to push Victor away. None of this was right even if it did feel really good. Nia looked at him and could no longer see Victor. Instead she saw Andrew standing naked in front of her. All doubt and restraint was instantly removed from her.

She pulled him closer and began kissing him with lust and passion. The two of them began to release all of their pent up urges in the bed of the truck. Something inside told Nia that she wasn’t with Andrew. His kisses were sweet yet intense at the same time; they kept filling her with energy. Every touch felt wonderful to her causing her to lose all inhibition. The only thing that seemed to matter was their fulfillment of earthly desires.

Victor was no longer using human strength. Instead he used the strength of a full-fledged Volstir. The power in his movement was enough to cause the ground itself to move. Nia began biting into his neck as she tasted his blood on her lips. It was like his strength and was no longer human. She didn’t care that it didn’t taste the same; the experience still felt amazing.

They both felt the four tires of the truck break as the axle itself snapped. The truck was still new and was now broken completely. They ignored the truck as it fell onto the ground and continued. Nia could only see Andrew with her even if she knew the truth. It was all wrong but that did not stop her from enjoying every second of it.

En had probably finished hunting and was nearby. She could see him silently watching the two of them from a distance. He would be extremely disappointed in Nia’s lack of restraint. At the moment Nia would have told En to screw himself as her barriers broke down completely. Wave of emotions and pleasures filled Nia’s body as she closed her eyes and enjoyed the moment.

When she opened them and saw Victor she felt extremely embarrassed. They were driving in the truck and Victor had his shirt on. Nia had been asleep and had been dreaming about them in the back of the truck. En was looking at her with a knowing smirk on his face that made Nia’s face turn scarlet. The urge in Victor was strong and Nia could tell that he was still tense with desire. Her hand was shaking so she tried to hide it by placing it outside of the window.

Guilt could be felt as she began to feel weak inside. Even though it hadn’t been real the thought alone was horrible. She had a fantasy about the two most important men in her life. Victor asked if she were alright as he turned and looked at her. Fear began to spread inside of her as a terrible thought occurred. She couldn’t let Victor find out about the condition she was currently in.

“We need to stop” Nia said tensely to him. She didn’t say anymore words until they pulled into a parking lot outside of a motel.

“We need two rooms” Nia told the clerk as the man turned from his television and looked at the two.

He smirked by the reaction on Victor’s face when Nia said they needed two rooms. Even after Victor his puberty they had always shared a room with two beds. Nia ignored Victor’s hurt feelings along with En’s suggestion. Victor couldn’t hear the cat’s thoughts which allowed him to speak freely. He thought that Nia should just come clean about how dirty thoughts before things got complicated. It was an annoying thing to suggest because things were already complicated.

They began walking up as Nia felt Victor’s desire swell again. En was following them with a strong desire to laugh at Nia’s pain. Despite their connection he was surprised when Nia slowed down and kicked him from behind. Victor was surprised however he didn’t say a word about what she did. It wasn’t a secret to him that the two would talk without inviting him in on the conversation. He was o
bviously used to it by now as En recovered with a hiss directed at Nia.

“Two rooms huh?” Victor asked as he asked how long they were staying. His voice sounded so sweet as Nia felt her body stir.

It was going to drive her insane she thought to herself. Nia got control over herself and snapped at Victor. “Look I would love nothing more than to share a bed and make the ground shake for the rest of the day. I know that you’re a stud but that would be a big mistake. We are both going to take a long very cold shower and take a break” Nia ordered as En began to laugh uncontrollably. The cat was even rolling around on the ground as he laughed.

Victor’s eyes were wide with shock and some embarrassment. He acknowledged that he understood and went into his room. Nia had expected more resistance as a part of her felt snubbed. She felt sorry for Victor but her sorrow was only eclipsed by her anger. The thoughts he had all morning had been driving her crazy that she had to say something. It felt as though she were losing control over her emotions and that was never good.

She looked at Victor’s door before walking to her own room. En followed her inside before she could shut the door on him. She sat on the bed and placed her face in her hands. “What’s wrong with me?” She asked out loud as a thought crossed her mind. If things didn’t get under control than she would end up losing Victor. The part that felt snubbed by Victor suddenly appeared inside her mind.

“What’s wrong with him? I’m attractive and he obviously wants me. Why didn‘t he make a move?” She said out loud as she looked at the wall that separated their rooms.

It was very confusing to feel Victor’s strong desire simply fizzle out within a few moments. She quickly felt embarrassed again and began pacing around the room. Not understanding why she wanted to rip his clothes off was annoying. It was only made worse by the idea that she wanted to put something between the two of them. Why was she feeling two opposite emotions at the same time?
