More tears welled up, but I blinked them back. My head became suddenly light. I nodded.
Tristan clutched me to his body and stood with me in his arms in one smooth move. He carried me to the bedroom. In a move that defied human strength, he held me close as he pulled the bedding aside with a free hand. My head sank into my soft pillow.
I didn’t protest when Tristan slowly removed my clothes. He took his time and infinite care with each article of clothing as if afraid I’d shatter. There was no seduction in his movements, though, no attempts to take advantage of my weakened emotional state. Only gentleness existed in his moves. He left my panties and bra on and then stood to remove his own clothes, leaving his black boxer briefs in place. He crawled into the bed beside me, gathered me in his arms and whispered into my ear, “It will be okay, Andy.”
If only I could believe that.
The warmth of his body pressed against mine. Eventually, his breathing evened out, and his arms slackened. I twisted around to snuggle into his side. Still cradled in the protective cocoon of Tristan, my eyelids drooped. I could no longer fight the heavy lids or the sleep that beckoned, yet I tried anyway. Tristan’s face looked so serene in the night. Such hard angles and chiseled features, yet the smoothness of his porcelain skin gave him an angelic appearance. I hoped to dream of him tonight.
Yet I knew I wouldn’t.
Karma was a bitch. I’d dream of Demons.
