“Don’t try to pull that card,” Christian scolded. “I did love you, but clearly you loved someone else all along. I was never going to reach you because your heart belonged to someone else.”

  “Who?” Jamie asked incredulously.

Christian laughed slightly. ”Now who is lying?’ He pointed behind her.

Jamie turned around to see a very stern and intimidating Nathan. “What have you done?” Nathan asked Jamie.

“I don’t have to say shit to you,” Christian spat. “I’m not one of your minions so I don’t have to answer to you.”

“I will buy this fucking business just to fire your ass and then I will blackball you so that no one in the world will ever want to hire you again,” Nathan replied.

“I’m not worried about you.” Christian took a step towards him.

Jamie never saw that side of Christian before; he kept it well hidden behind his smile. It was feral. It had to be something he picked up in prison.

“No, I don’t want you two to fight out here,” Jamie said.

Her words fell on deaf ears because Nathan took the opportunity to punch Christian in the face and sent him stumbling back. Jamie gasped loudly.

Christian recovered and took a few more steps back. He looked at Jamie sadly, “You’ll probably never see me again but I just want you to know before you find out that I’m very sorry it all ended like this. I meant everything that I ever said to you, in regards to my feelings.”

“Fuck your feelings,” Jamie said. She wanted Nathan to punch him again. Sympathy didn’t mean anything from a person that was selling you out. She’d let that snake back into her life and into her home. They’d become close and she considered him to be her friend. He was never her friend.

Christian walked down the street to his car, hopped in, and drove off. Jamie tried to get to him; she had so much more to say. He didn’t just get to walk off that way. He didn’t get to screw her over and then walk away but Nathan held her back. She looked around and saw people with their phones pointed at her. They were recording.

  “Fuck,” she groaned.

Nathan ushered her back to the SUV, they hopped in, and Perry drove them away from the forming crowd.

  ***

The ride was pretty silent. Jamie was so scattered that she didn’t even know where to tell Perry to take them. She just wanted to be away from everything. She wanted to disappear. How could he do that to her? The real problem was that she didn’t even know what he did! A horrible feeling settled into the pit of her stomach and she rocked back and forth. Nathan reached for her hand and gently rubbed it.

“It’s going to be okay,” Nathan soothed.

“Don’t say that. I don’t want to hear that, not right now. What I want to do is hunt him down and kick his ass!” Jamie yelled before she kicked the back of Perry’s seat. “I’m so sorry Perry! I’m so sorry.” Tears streamed down Jamie’s face, “I shouldn’t have kicked the back of your chair. I need to get a grip.”

“It’s okay Jamie,” Perry said. “My wife and children have done far worse. I got kicked in the balls by my three year old on accident last week. I’m built for pain.”

Jamie laughed. “Ouch. I guess you are.”

She leaned her head back against the seat and focused on her breathing. That’s what she needed to do. She needed to just breathe and think her way through it. She was an intelligent woman. There wasn’t any reason why this situation should get to her.

A half hour later they pulled up to a secluded diner with hardly any patrons.

“I figured that the two of you would want some privacy,” Perry said.

“Yes, this works. Thanks so much Perry.” Jamie put her heels back on, took the mirror from the back of the seat, and fixed her makeup.

  “You’re beautiful,” Nathan assured her.

She smiled slightly, “Thanks, but I have to make sure that I look good.”

They walked inside of the retro diner and it felt like they’d been taken back in time. It wasn’t one of those 50s-style diners with bright colors and neon signs. It was carpeted, dreary, and had a ton of photos on the wall of celebrities that visited when the place wasn’t a hole in the wall. The tables had cranberry vinyl tablecloths and doilies beneath the silverware.

  “Wow,” Jamie said.

“I know, but hey, it’s safe to say that people won’t know us here,” Nathan whispered.

“Fine, I’m not in the mood to go anywhere else anyway.”

“Welcome to Aunt Clara’s diner!” one of the gray haired waitress said. “Take a seat anywhere you like and I’ll bring over some menus.”

  “Thank you.” Nathan smiled politely.

He ushered Jamie to a booth in the back of the restaurant. She looked around and scowled. Everything looked like it was going to be sticky. She was tempted to wipe down the booth with the hand sanitizer in her purse. But she took a seat and slid to the middle. Nathan sat on the opposite side.

“I’m going to call my driver to tell him where I am. That way he can start on his way to pick me up,” Nathan informed her.

Jamie nodded as the waitress brought them glasses of water and sat down oversized menus in front of them.

“I’ll just have coffee,” Jamie said.

“You sure? Our fried chicken is on point. You may want to try it girl,” the woman said.

“Actually, I’ll try it and you can bring her an order as well. We’re both hungry and need to eat,” Nathan said.

“You got it, you want coffee too?”

“No, I’m fine with water. Actually, do you have any sweet tea?” Nathan asked.

  “Some of the best.”

  “I’ll have a glass.”

“See, I like you,” the waitress said as she batted her eyelashes at him.

Jamie knew it was petty but she wanted to snap at the old woman for flirting with her man.

After the waitress walked away, Jamie tilted her head to the side. “Really?”

“What?” he asked. “We’re both hungry. I also want to see if the food is good.”

“You trust stuff that’s coming out of that kitchen?” Jamie asked.

“Stop being uppity.” He grinned. “If it doesn’t look legit, then we just won’t eat it. No biggie.”

Jamie sighed. “Whatever, we have other things to talk about anyway. Like why would your wife want to talk to Christian in the first place?”

“Whatever it is, it can’t be good. Stephanie is a nasty piece of work and we can’t put anything past her. I don’t know what’s coming but I can promise you that we will get through this together.”

“But how can we get through this together when you’re still with her?” Jamie asked. “I know you say that we’re in this together, but my car is the one that got driven off the road. She almost killed me. Now who knows what she has up her sleeve?”

“That’s something else that I wanted to speak to you about. There is no way that I’m spending another day in the same house as that woman, even if it costs me fifty percent of everything that I’ve built.” Nathan took the glass of tea from the woman and gave her a grateful “Thank you.”

“So how are you going to pull that off?” Jamie asked.

“It doesn’t matter. We’re going to figure it out, together.”

“Then can you stay with me today? I don’t want to be alone,” Jamie said.

Nathan nodded. “I’ll call the driver and cancel.”

  The Final Chapter

Jamie and Nathan came in through the back entrance of the office. They walked in amongst a ton of stares. Her staff blatantly stared her down, and that was rare. Something had to be going on.

“Don’t watch me, do some work,” Jamie snapped.

They headed through the office and approached her assistant. Her assistant had the same look but it was mixed with sympathy.

“Okay, so lay it on me. What’s going on?”

The practically bald and red lipped woman bit her lip nervously. “I don’t know if
you want to know.”

“Girl, stop playing with me and tell me dammit.” Jamie didn’t have time to coddle her staff at a moment like this. She needed answers and she needed them quick.

“You two are all over social media,” the assistant said as she looked back and forth between the two of them.

“Damn,” Jamie said, “I shouldn’t have left my phone off. What happened earlier today with Christian had to gone viral. Everyone had their phones out.”

“Umm, it’s much worse than that. Way worse, like cataclysmically worse,” the woman informed her.

“What in the hell is going on? You know what, fuck it. Nathan and I are going to my office and we’re going to figure this out ourselves since my staff is too pussy to tell me.”

Without another word, Jamie stalked off and tried to hold back tears. Her chest heaved and she was sure that a breakdown was coming at any moment.

After her door closed she hugged Nathan to her and she admitted, “I don’t think that I want to know what’s going on. I just want to remain blissfully unaware for a few more minutes before my entire life comes crashing down on me.”

Nathan held her tightly to his body and kissed neck. “I know babe, but we can’t hide forever and you know that the longer whatever it is festers, the worse it will become. We can do this together.”

Jamie knew he was right. She removed herself from his embrace and walked to her computer. “Here goes nothing.”

Her assistant was right, it was much worse. It was one of the worse things that could have ever happened to her. It was something that she swore would never happen to her.

The headline read: NATHAN SPARKS CAUGHT GETTING FREAKY WITH A WOMAN THAT ISN’T HIS WIFE! Beneath title was a still of a video. Jamie’s hand shook.

“You don’t have to look at that,” Nathan said.

“I do.” She clicked on it and saw herself and Nathan having sex inside of her condo. It was them from the night before. “That bitch bugged my house,” Jamie said in disbelief. “How did that even happen? How did that happen?!”

“I have an idea,” Nathan said.

“Christian,” Jamie replied. “There is no way. There is no fucking way that we can recover from something like this. We can try to patch things up but the damage is done.” Jamie’s breath became shallow and she felt dizzy although she was already sitting.

“Yep and now I wish that I curb stomped that fucker,” Nathan replied.

His tone was very unfamiliar to Jamie. She turned to look at him and saw the fire in his eyes. The pure hatred that shone there was palpable.

“I have to think our way out of this,” Jamie said.

“You know what, fuck this. I’m going to speak to Stephanie right now.” Nathan headed towards the door but Jamie caught him.

She grabbed his arm, “Please don’t. Don’t talk to her.”

“You’re the one that said I wasn’t being direct enough. It’s time for me to get very direct.”

“No,” Jamie pleaded. “I don’t want you to do anything that you’ll regret. It will only add fuel to the fire. We don’t need for things to get any worse than they already are. Please, just stay with me.”

“Stay with you and do what? Twiddle my thumbs?” Nathan asked.

Jamie looked out of her windows and saw a ton of cars below and security in the front. She walked over and saw there were paparazzi outside.

“Fucking great,” she said to herself. “And it begins. Look, you can’t go out there because cameras are out there now. They will only follow you wherever you go. Let’s just take it easy for now.”

Nathan looked out and saw that she had a point. He sighed. “Fine.”

Jamie picked up her phone and called one of the best people in media that she knew. Jonathan didn’t pay any games and he could put a stop to a story.

  “Hello?”

“Hey Jon! It’s Jamie. I’m sure that by now you’ve seen this story so there is no use in explaining it to you. Can you do me a solid and keep it from spreading further?”

“Well, you’ve really stepped in it this time Jamie. I’m sorry to tell you, there is no stopping this story. It’s too late. The damage is done, all you can do is move forward from here.”

“So you’re basically saying that you can’t help me?”

“Exactly,” Jon said with no sympathy in his voice. “You of all people should know better.”

“Really? You’re going to take this time to give me a lesson on morality? Does your wife know that you go to Brazil every year to fuck whores? Does she know that? Where is your morality then?”

Jon laughed, “I know you’re upset and I’m not judging you for screwing him. I’m judging you for doing it so sloppily. I go to Brazil and get a woman that will never go to the media. I’m smart.”

“Look, there has to be something that you can do?” Jamie tried again.

“Nope, nothing. Whoever put this story out here is not interested in money. Actually they paid the news sources to spread it around. Whoever did this just wants your head. Just a heads up, the seven o’clock news at different stations in quite a few big states may be picking this story up.”

“Fucking perfect,” she said before she hung up.

  “What’s going on?” Nathan asked.

  “We’re completely fucked, that’s what’s going on.”

Jamie fought the urge to crumple to the floor and cry like a baby. She was far too grown for that kind of behavior. She sat next to Nathan on the couch and turned her iPad on. Social media was having a field day with her and Nathan’s tape. The world had pretty much seen her give head. It was mortifying.

People on social media found it to be funny and constantly pointed out how ironic it was. She was famous for keeping other people’s reputation clean and now her own had been destroyed. There were a few people that she wanted to find, drag them out of their house, and beat them. That wouldn’t have solved anything but it sure would have made her feel better temporarily. People could be so brutal when talking about the lives of others. Furthermore, they made their own conclusions and didn’t know anything! she thought bitterly.

Nathan checked his phone periodically and got more depressed as the time ticked. He ignored phone calls as he watched his stocks take a nosedive. He built his company with Stephanie by his side and many were disgusted by his behavior. He fell out of their good graces because he was a cheater.

At five o’clock they turned on the news to see what was happening. Jamie’s stomach turned as she waited for the shit to hit the fan. Jon told her that the 7 o’clock news may have aired it but something told her that it was going to be a lot more popular than that.

Nathan and Jamie watched the television with tension between them. When the segment got to the entertainment portion. Carmen from channel nine looked extremely excited to have news. That’s when Jamie knew that it was about her and Nathan. They grabbed one another’s hands and listened.

“Good evening everyone!” Carmen said excitedly. She spoke in an accent that showed off her Venezuelan heritage. “If you’ve been hiding under a rock or you’ve been sheltered from all forms of media then what I’m about to say will shock you. I’m sure that the rest of you know the tea that I’m about to spill.

That’s what the young folks call it right? Well, it’s none of our business but Nathan Spark’s business is all over the world right now and it has nothing to do with his wife! That’s right, the man that we’ve all come to love and adore is a cheater! A sex tape is making its rounds on social media and there is even a website dedicated to it.

Now, you’ll have to go find the tape yourself because we don’t show those kinds of things here.” She giggled. “But let me tell you, it’s hot. So who is this mystery woman? Now get this, it’s his Public Relations specialist, Jamie! She’s very good at what she does in and outside of the bedroom apparently. So tell me Bianca, what do you think about this? We’re pulling in our correspondent from L.A. to tell us all about what’s been going on there, now
that this news has hit.”

The screen split to show a bubbly blonde with a fierce bob. “Hi, Carmen! It’s insane! Twitter has absolutely exploded and let me tell you, they aren’t happy. I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed. I thought that he was a great guy so to find out that he’s a cheating scumbag is disheartening. I can’t even begin to imagine how his wife must feel. She’s the real victim in all of this.”

Carmen gave an understanding nod as Bianca spoke and then chimed in, “Well we have to move on to other stuff but this is juicy! Hopefully we can hear more about this and we’re trying to get in contact with Mrs. Sparks. Apparently, no one can be reached, how convenient. I’ll talk to you later Bianca, thank you for joining in.”

  “Anytime!”

“Wow,” Jamie said, “You know, I never really understood why my clients got so upset when their names were in the media but now I just want to punch everybody the face. They don’t know anything!”

Nathan practically vibrated in his seat. “Everything that I’ve ever worked for is falling apart because of that woman. I curse the day I decided to stay with her. I’m so stupid. I told her years ago that I wanted out but she swore that she couldn’t live without me. She even agreed to a partially open marriage. I should have followed my first mind years ago. Now she’s destroying the things that I’ve worked my ass off to build.” He turned to Jamie. “Should we put out a statement?”

Jamie shook her head. “In times like these it’s better to say nothing and wait for the tension to die down.” Her advice was true but she knew that this was only the beginning. They still had a long trek to go and his wife had only begun to unleash hell on them. This was simply her first move.

“I’ve been trying to call Stephanie periodically but the bitch won’t answer,” Nathan growled.

Jamie raised an eyebrow. He was truly pissed and it was hard to comfort him when she was so pissed. She wanted to strangle Stephanie just as bad as she did. She watched as he called her again.

“Stephanie, this is Nathan. You need to stop whatever you’re doing and call me, NOW!” Nathan said to the voicemail.

There was a knock on Jamie’s door.
