Rebecca took Chloe’s hand and stood up; she cradled her broken hand and pulled her suit jacket closed over her exposed bra. She felt wobbly and she said, ‘I feel like shit, my mouth and hand are killing me.’
Chloe didn’t apologise, ‘You’ll live.’
They left Rebecca in the doorway and started to walk away down the alley.
‘One more thing,’ Rebecca called out.
‘What’s that?’ said Chloe.
‘He likes to feel as if he’s in control; if you can take that away from him you may stand a chance of beating him.’
Chloe nodded. ‘That’s what I intend.’
‘Good luck,’ Rebecca said; and she meant it too. She didn’t think that they would make it to the end but she hoped that they did. Chloe appeared to read Rufus very well; it would explain the shopping and fucking but Rebecca didn’t think it would be enough.
Rufus was a very bad man, and although she had seen some of that nastiness in Dan’s eyes, it was buried away under too much humanity; she doubted that Dan would have the necessary guts to do what may have to be done.
She watched them until they turned the corner at the end of the alley. Rebecca turned in the opposite direction and moved as quickly as she could; she used a tissue to wipe at her face. She was a mess but that couldn’t be helped; right now her only concern was getting the fuck away from London. She patted her back pocket and felt the reassuring bulge of twenty pound notes; she’d get a taxi to the nearest A&E and then she’d vanish, she had things put in place for just this sort of situation. Rebecca quickly found a taxi and disappeared; one lonely person among thousands.
Dan and Chloe also found a taxi; they also knew that they needed to put as much distance between them and Rufus as time would allow.
The taxi driver; a Hispanic said, ‘Where to?’
‘Kensington.’ Chloe stated.
The driver nodded; Chloe could see he was watching her in his rear-view mirror but she chose to ignore him.
‘I thought we were heading to Heathrow,’ Dan whispered.
‘We are, but we’ll use several taxis to get there; that way it’ll be harder to track us.’
Dan nodded. He put his hand on her thigh; he liked the feel of her cool skin against his palm and he ran his hand up and down the inside of her thigh. Chloe put her hand over his; her fingertips between his and she smiled at him.
Dan looked at the driver, ‘Keep your eyes on the road buddy.’
The driver reddened and looked away from the mirror.
‘Relax honey; now he’ll remember us,’ Chloe said.
Dan laughed softly, ‘Chloe, he’ll remember us from the way you look; no man could forget seeing you that quickly.’
Chloe had to agree with him and she buttoned her blouse and placed her shopping bag on her lap.
When they got to Kensington Rebecca’s mobile started to ring and Chloe took it out of her string bag and looked at it; Rufus’ name came up on the caller ID along with a photograph of a man. Chloe showed it to Dan.
‘That’s him,’ Dan replied, ‘I’ll never forget that face.’
‘Perfect, now we have a picture to go with the name.’ Chloe said and hit the cancel key on the mobile; cutting the call off.
‘I wonder what other secrets are on this,’ Chloe said.
‘We’ll find out later.’
The phone started to ring again, Rufus again, he no doubt wanted to know where Rebecca was. Chloe was tempted to answer the call but decided not to; she didn’t want to show their hand too soon. Again she cancelled the call and then switched the phone off.
They caught a bus to Islington, and from there a taxi to Waterloo. At Waterloo they caught a tube to the South Bank and from there a taxi which took them all the way out to Heathrow. They had no intention of catching a flight anywhere, it was a game of “smokened glass”; a ruse to make tracking them nigh on impossible. They asked the driver to drop them off at the departure gate; if Rufus was able to trace their movements he might end up thinking that they’d caught a flight and the trail would stop there.
Standing on the pavement near the main entrance Dan said, ‘now what?’
Chloe looked around them; it was very busy and noisy. ‘Let’s find a McDonalds or something, get something to eat and check out Rebecca’s phone, we need to see what’s on it and then dump it; Rufus may have a way of tracing it.’
‘I doubt it otherwise she wouldn’t have asked for it back.’
‘You’re right; but we still need to see what’s stored on it. Nokias store everything and anything; addresses, pictures, emails, diaries; it could be a goldmine of information that we can use.’
‘True, but I’d rather not trawl through it in a public place.’
‘Then what do you suggest?’
Dan pointed across the large car park. ‘There,’ Dan said.
Chloe saw what he was pointing at and she laughed. ‘A motel; are you trying to suggest something Dan?’
Dan took her hand and they headed for the hotel, ‘I don’t have anything untoward planned, a bath, some food and a big bed are the top of the list of my priorities.’
‘A bed?’ Chloe said smiling mischievously at him.
‘To sleep; we’re both running on reserves, sure we could have ran for longer but now we don’t need to, we have some breathing space and I say we take advantage of it. Recharge properly, get a good sleep; Rufus can wait.’
‘Can he?’ Chloe mused; she wasn’t sure how safe they were whilst Rufus was out there but a bath and some sleep sounded really good to her right then.
‘I hope so Chloe; I really do hope so.’
They walked across the vast car park hand-in-hand; overhead a 747 was coming in to land, the noise of its turbo engines drowning out every other sound.
They stopped by a cluster of purposefully planted trees; a small green oasis amid the concrete and industry.
‘We’ll register separately, you go first; I’ll follow in ten, we don’t want to arouse suspicion.’
‘You’re not still embarrassed by the age gap are you?’ Chloe asked. He could hear the slight tone of hurt in her voice and as he looked down at her she looked younger than she had before, she looked vulnerable; afraid even, as if he might suddenly have had second thoughts and was about to send her on her way. Dan smiled warmly and pulled her close and he kissed her hard and long on the mouth, his tongue probing her mouth and she moaned into his mouth.
They parted and Dan said, ‘No baby, but we’ll be more obvious as a couple than on our own. If by some fluke Rufus does trace us to here the receptionist won’t be able to say that they checked a couple in matching our descriptions.’
‘Clever.’ Chloe said
‘Yeah, well I’m beginning to think rather than just reacting. Wait for me in the lift; if you have to keep riding it until I arrive.’
‘Okay.’
They kissed and Chloe walked off swinging her ass; her carrier bag swaying in her hand. As she reached the entrance Chloe lifted the back of her skirt up and Dan smiled at the sight of her naked buttocks.
Chloe went into the motel and Dan stretched his arms over his head; easing the tension in his shoulders. He hadn’t had much time so far to think about the ramifications of what Rebecca had told them, but now as he waited for the agreed ten minutes to pass he began to and he realised then the magnitude of what they were up against. It was no longer just one man; according to Rebecca Rufus was just one cog in a far greater machine and for the first time he gave serious consideration to the fact that him and Chloe might not actually survive this.
Dan knew that he would try his damndest to ensure that they both lived through this but he could see how the odds were stacked greatly against them; a worldwide network of hunters; well- connected and highly financed; it was like something out of a Robert Ludlum novel.
Dan checked his watch, two minutes to go.
A part of him was tempted to run out on Chloe; to leave her here and to go it the rest of the way on his own.
He could be gone within two minutes but right then for the first time he realised just how much he had fallen for and how he knew he would feel without her; in less than twenty four hours he had gone from being alone to being in love.
Crazy.
For whatever reason (fate?) they were in this together from now on so headed for the motel and the fleeting sanctuary that it offered.
Chloe was waiting for him in the lift.
‘Any Problems?’ Chloe asked.
‘No,’ he replied. ‘Room 269.’
Chloe held her key card up, ‘219; we’ll take yours.’
They rode the lift up to the third floor. Dan located his room and they checked to make sure that no one else was around and Dan opened the door and they stepped inside.
It was as generic as any other motel that he had visited; cheap and clean. Green walls, blue linen on the bed which thankfully was a double; it faced the door, it’s headboard beneath the only window. The other furnishings were old but in good condition.
Chloe dropped her bags on the floor and reached over the bed to open the window; there was no working air-conditioner and the room was hot and stuffy, already she could feel the sweat forming on her skin.
Chloe slipped her blouse off and Dan’s gaze settled on her bikini top and the shape of her full breasts; her nipples jutted hard through the crocheted material and Dan looked away, he was already hard but really wanted to sleep; he would have to control his lust. Chloe saw him and smiled. ‘It’s okay Dan, I want a shower and then some kip.’
‘Okay, are you hungry?’
Chloe nodded, ‘Famished.’
She wasn’t really that hungry but she had lots to do and if Dan was out of the way it would give her an opportunity to do it without sneaking around.
‘There’s a sandwich machine downstairs; I’ll see what I can find. I’ll take the key-card so don’t open the door to anyone.’
He kissed her quickly; he managed to avoid her breasts from touching him, which would have been too much to resist.
‘Okay,’ Chloe said.
She began to strip and Dan left before her bikini top slipped free of her breasts. He closed the door securely behind him and Chloe moved fast. She had her clothes off in seconds and rushed into the bathroom. She switched on the shower, and knowing that she didn’t have long; maybe 10 minutes at the most she got under the spray before the water could warm up.
She yelped out as the freezing cold water hit her body.
Dan located the vending machine and fed coins into the slot until he had enough to make his purchases; two ham sandwiches, two chocolate bars and a couple cans of Red Bull; it wasn’t much as far as meals went but it would have to suffice for now. He checked his watch and saw that it was fast approaching noon.
An old lady got into the same lift as him; Dan rode it with her and got off on her floor. He then walked down the beige corridor and through the fire exit door and down the two flights of stairs to his floor. He didn’t want anyone; even an innocent old woman knowing which floor he was actually on; old instincts were slowly coming back to him.
He’d already been gone ten minutes and he didn’t want Chloe worrying about him. Dan walked quickly to his room and unlocked the door. The lock disengaged with an audible click and he pushed the door open.
When he saw what was awaiting him the sandwiches and drinks dropped from his hands and his heart beat faster, he hadn’t been expecting this.
Rufus instinctively knew that something had gone wrong when Rebecca’s phone went straight to answer machine for the third time; he hung up, not wanting to leave a message; messages could be used as evidence.
He’d called before and each time the call had gone to the machine. The first time he wasn’t unduly concerned, Rebecca may not have heard it or she may have been too close to Dan and Chloe to risk blowing her cover. The next call had left him feeling angry and he felt the rage building; Rebecca knew better than to leave him waiting, she knew the penalty for not answering the call.
Rufus had found a parking garage near Charing Cross and sat their growing angrier as the seconds passed. Even masturbating into a fresh pair of Chloe’s knickers did nothing to relieve the anger coursing through his veins.
He’d checked the time; a little after 9.30am, and he had wondered where they were, what had happened. They could be anywhere in the city and without Rebecca’s help it would be a lot harder to track his quarry. He contemplated contacting his friend at the metropolitan police but decided to hold off on that course of action for now; he had begun to feel uncomfortable, a slight niggling thought at the back of his mind.
Now stood by the entrance to the parking garage watching people walk by on the pavement he wanted to pull out his pistol and open fire on these dumb thoughtless humans but he decided to hold the urge in check. Father had given him his reason to live and it was for a far greater purpose than to just shoot randomly on a crowded street where the police would be at the scene in mere seconds.
Several people greeted him and he smiled politely in return. Many women looked longer than was necessary; he gave off the image of a refined gentleman, outwardly he was all smiles and grace but on the inside he wanted to skull-fuck them to death.
As he watched the street he decided that one of two things could have happened; one, Dan and Chloe had lost Rebecca for whatever reason and now Rebecca was hiding from Rufus. The second and this he found really hard to believe was that Dan and Chloe had somehow subdued Rebecca and slipped away into the crowds. Rufus didn’t think this that probable, for a starters Dan didn’t strike him as a fighter, and Rebecca was an expert martial-artist.
No; the first scenario was the more likely, so why was that strange sensation at the back of his mind building, as if trying to warn him?
If Rebecca had fucked up then she would be punished, he grew aroused as he remembered the last time that he had had to reprimand her. Her screams of terror and agony as he had forced the milk bottle up her ass had been so loud he had been forced to punch her unconscious as she had been making his ears ache.
He’d taken his time fucking her; when she’d finally woken up he had still been deep inside her and when he had orgasmed it had been one of the greatest he had ever experienced.
He had made Rebecca’s punishment last for two days and when he had finally finished with her she was nothing more than another empty vessel for him to control.
Rufus walked back to the Range Rover and climbed into the driver’s seat. He had to make a decision soon, if he didn’t and Dan made it to the end of the allotted time frame then by the rules laid down by his Father he would have to let them go, and the thought of failure did not sit well on his shoulders.
Rufus suddenly felt his mind explode and a realisation hit him, a realisation that scared him and angered him all at once; he knew then that he would have to let Dan and Chloe go or he would be in grave danger. From where this premonition had come from he had no clue, all he knew was the truth of it; he would have to walk away from them, he would have to let them live or he would face the consequences.
He saw in his mind’s-eye his death at their hands and he began to shake uncontrollably.
‘It’s impossible,’ he said but he knew the image was an omen of what would come to pass if he chose to ignore his instincts. He had had such moments of clarity in the past and he had always listened to them and they had served him well.
Rufus had so desperately wanted to possess the young whore, he wanted to do to her what he had done to Rebecca and more; he had wanted to fuck her every hole, to cut her and to watch her blood flow.
Rufus slammed his hands against the steering wheel and tears of loss ran down his cheeks but he knew that he would have to learn to live with it. Dan and Chloe were now unique; he had let them go, and he had never done that before.
He wiped the back of his hands across his face; wiping the tears and snot away.
Rufus would return to his home and recharge; there would be other hunts, and he had Chloe’s l
ingerie and her pictures; it was a form of possession. Another realisation hit him and he smiled; he knew of someone that could take the place of Chloe, he had thought about taking this other person before but personal circumstances had always prevented him but now that he had the opportunity and an alibi if anything should go wrong he decided to act on his urges; and who knew maybe she would look good in Chloe’s lingerie, he could always imagine it was Chloe that he was putting it to.
Rufus started the car and drove out of the car park, he hadn’t forgotten about Rebecca either; he would deal with her at a later date; right now though he needed to go home, he needed the safety that it would provide him.
A small part of him though, a part that he wasn’t willing to listen feared that it wouldn’t be enough.
He quickly escaped the city and by the time he was on the motorway heading north any fear he’d had of Dan and Chloe had vanished. He kept telling himself that by letting them go he had saved himself.
‘Are you just going to stand there?’ Chloe asked from the bed.
She was lying flat on her back, her upper-body propped up on her elbows, her legs bent at the knees, feet wide apart and planted on the duvet. Her legs open in a ‘V’ so that the first thing he saw when he opened the door was her crotch.
Dan scooped up the sandwiches and drinks that he had dropped and closed the door, he placed the packages on a sideboard and moved to the foot of the bed; his eyes hadn’t left her transparent knickers.
Chloe licked her pouting lips and pointed at his groin. ‘Now that’s what I call pleased to see someone.’
Dan reached for her and Chloe moved her legs out of the way, ‘Nuh-huh mister; shower first.’
He was in awe; she looked amazing, she was wearing a pale gold coloured corset, suspenders and matching see-through knickers. Chloe also wore a pair of glossy stockings, skin coloured with a three inch patterned top, secured to her suspender belt by silky straps. Her breasts which were squeezed into the figure hugging corset were high and the cleavage was too much for him to bear. The corset had a criss-cross lattice front, its ribbons showing her inviting flesh beneath and again he reached for her.
