“Ayanna?” both men said when they saw her.
Ayanna rushed over and hugged Kaiser tightly, though when the babe wiggled, Artemus pushed himself closer.
“Where is Aurora?” he asked.
Ayanna swallowed. “She said she had to stay back, and I understand why. If we took the emperor’s daughter with us…, all of Rome would be on our tails. She stayed back for now, but promised to join us when she could. However, she wanted us to take your son.”
Artemus looked at his son, who was wiggling and yawning, rubbing his eyes, and then bent down to pick him up. “I’ll carry him,” he said.
It looked strange for a large man to have such a small child tied to his chest, but she did not have time to stop and question him. They had to go now.
Kaiser pulled her into the back of the horse that he rode and told her to hold on tight. He had purposely taken one of the imperial stallions as his own mount and was at the front of the lines with Artemus at his side. He raised his fist for attention.
“Now is the time for us to snatch what has been forcibly stolen from us!” he shouted. “Now, we become what we always wanted: Freedmen and women!”
With a hard kick on the horse’s sides, he took off galloping down the roads with the carts filled with slaves and supplies behind him. Where they were going, they did not know, but they knew one thing. Wherever they ended up, they were free to make their own choices for the very first times in their lives.

Author’s Note
Andromeda was born in the Bay Area of California and spent much of her childhood in both the Westcoast as well as the Southeast state of Georgia. She was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, a developmental disorder characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests.
Because she wasn’t that open to other humans, young Andromeda would turn to books, reading at an early age, and was always found with a pile of books near her person. Her imagination grew because of her reading ability and she began to tell stories to her friends and families. Her mother always told her that her dreams were as numerous as the stars and she later took it, along with the first name Andromeda, to make her current pen name.
Starting to write in middle school, she didn’t exactly begin to go out into the world and write until her second year of college when she discovered the online community of Wattpad, a site that allows people to vote, write and comment on stories. It has well over 45 million members that grow every day. Realizing how good a tool this could be, Andromeda joined, and over the course of two years, had gotten a following of over six thousand, that continues to grow every day.
When she isn’t writing, she is studying, as her dream is to go into the law field one day. However, if the option ever did come for her writing to come full time, she would take it, but continue her studies in law nonetheless. Her hobbies include cooking, hanging with her family and volunteering, and she normally writes with headphones on her head as listening to music helps inspire her.
