  Amie gave him a half-smile.

“I love you.” He couldn’t stop it from coming out. He had kept it inside far too long.

She frowned. “All right, let’s pretend that you do love me. News flash!” She caught his attention all right. “Where do you live? Where do I live?”

“Funny you should mention that. If you had listened to me when I tried to talk to you earlier before the ceremony, or after the ceremony, or during our dance you would know that I’ve decided to open an office here in Toronto.”

Her eyes widened, and her jaw dropped.

“We need an office closer to New York. And there are so many charities and good causes in this city that I can support.”

She smiled. A real smile. Finally, the Amie he loved had showed up.

“Not to mention there’s this girl that I’m crazy about.”

“You’re not afraid? I’m afraid. I’m afraid you’re going to change your mind and realize you’d rather be single.”

“What’s that saying? It’s better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.” He pulled her body against his. “That’s how I feel. Even if the universe decides that we have only three days together, I would rather spend those three days by your side then none at all.”

“I want a wedding, and babies and pets and the white picket fence.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

  “The baseball game.”

  “What?”

“At the baseball game. When you looked at me from the grill when I was at the picnic table. That’s when I knew I loved you.” She smoothed his hair off his forehead. “I mean, I knew before, but it was at that moment when I couldn’t sweep it under the rug any longer. I love you.”

Without a thought to where they were or who was watching, Milton cupped his hand around the back of Amie’s neck and pulled her in for a kiss. It was sweet and hard and hot all at the same time.

The crowd around them applauded with approval and excitement. Milton pushed forward, bending her body backward. And in typical Amie style, she pushed back, grabbed the back of his jacket and pulled him to the side. She dipped him on the dance floor and fused their mouths together in a binding kiss.
