“I am somewhat late saying this, nevertheless… I love you,” he gasped for air.

She kissed his lips. “Forgive me, I have failed you,” she cried kneeling over him. His hand fell from her cheek. And he stared into the sky.

I covered my face crying. Lia and Seima were crying too.

“He was a good man and warrior.” Seima said.

I held the trunk tight. Another spasm of pain shot through me bringing more tears to my eyes. He needed me. This battle was destroying him.

“Stay here.” I told Lia. And began to climb down the tree.

“What are you doing?” She asked alarmed.

“He needs me. He is in so much pain,” I wiped the tears from my eyes and jumped to the grass the last few feet. I ran to the edge of trees.

“I cannot allow you to go,” Cathair said.

“We must protect you,” Seima added, her voice was pained.

“No Brina you can’t. You have to stay here,” I looked into Grandpa’s eyes. And held his hands.

“Grandpa I love him with every single piece of me. And this connection we have is too strong right now. I can feel everything he’s feeling. And all this death is killing him, Grandpa. He needs me. I can calm him, giving him comfort. I just need one touch. I can help him. He’s dying out there and I can’t bear to see him and feel him in that kind of pain. I have to help him.”

“Enough!” Cyn’s grief-stricken shout reverberated through the air and we all turned to him. The battle stopped around him, responding to his command.

“This is your last warning. Stop this at once or you will die!” He told Cassius while his arms prepared to shoot.

I could barely stand his agony. It was burning through me. The connection stirred frantically, begging me to help him. Instinctively I stepped into the clearing rushing towards him.

“Remain here, Ard Sagart!” Cathair urged Grandpa, and ran after me. His voice disappeared in the background. The connection was in charge now.

Marcus stood by Cassius side. He grunted while holding his shoulder. Cassius laughed at Cyn.

Time seemed to slow down for me.

Everything happened at the same time.

The laughter caught in Cassius’ throat when Cyn’s arrows pierced his body. One through his head, one on his chest and one on his stomach. He staggered back and collapsed dead on the bed of the truck.

Felix picked up a crossbow and shot at Cyn as I got to him.

I reached out yelling and stopped it.

Art threw his sword towards Felix. It went through his ribs. He screamed in pain falling to the ground.

Grandpa’s face suddenly appeared in front of my eyes. He held me in his arms protecting me with his body. Julius had shot at me.

Cyn’s arrow went straight through Julius’ heart, killing him.

Cathair’s shield materialized covering us but the iron bullet that was meant for me went through the shield into Grandpa’s back. His face contorted in pain, inches from my eyes. I tried to hold him but he fell out of my arms.

My heart ripped into a million pieces. I kneeled over him.

“No, no, no, no,” I sobbed looking at the blood soaking the ground.

“We have to cure him. You have to cure him!” I yelled at Cathair while Cyn ran to me. “Heal Him!” I yelled but they didn’t move. I placed my hands on his chest.

“What are the words? Tell me!” I shouted feeling every part of my soul die with him. No one was moving. “Please,” I begged. I lifted my eyes to them. They were all crying. I looked at Grandpa. And he smiled at me. His eyes were becoming hazy.

“My beautiful and special little Bee,” He croaked choking in blood.

My trembling hands held his face. It became blurry and I blinked hard to clear the tears. “You are going to be ok Grandpa. I’m going to heal you ok? Just… just tell me the words please. I can heal you. I know I can do it, but I don’t know the words. They won’t tell me,” I could barely speak from the sobs shaking my body. He turned his head and kissed my palm.

“I leave in peace Brina. I always knew I would give my life for you. It was written in the stars.”

“No, Grandpa. You are not going to die. You are not going to die. You are not,”

  I shook my head.

He looked at Cyn and held his hand. “It’s been a blessing to finally see you again, Mo mach. I carried your memory in my heart every day of my existence.” He guided Cyn’s hand to mine and smiled looking into my eyes.

“I love y…” His voice faded and his eyes became glassy, lost in mine. He was gone.

Inconceivable pain and anger flooded me at the same time.

“NO!” I screamed at the top of my lungs.

  “No!”

I kissed his forehead and fell on him crying. The pain and anger began a battle inside me, while I felt his body become cold under my touch.

A cry of pure rage erupted from my lips and I looked at the sky. Something snapped inside and I felt the wind pick up speed around us. My vision turned gray while rage exploded through me. I didn’t feel like myself. I lifted my hands while a tingling ran down my arms. A dozen tornados began to form around us. I screamed from the pain and they began to spin out of control taking everyone with them. Soldiers and warriors like one. They flew and hit the trees. Or skipped on the ground. I looked at my trembling hands. I began to walk towards the Romans.

“Bri, No!” I heard Eisha call after me. I ignored her.

“You killed him!” I yelled at the soldiers. They began to run back towards the trucks. I swung my right hand and one of the tornados picked up a truck and threw it to the lake. The soldiers scrambled to get out and swim. Cyn ran to me and held me in his arms.

“No my Goddess. Anger is never the answer. Please, you must try and still. Do not give into it. It will consume you. It will turn your essence dark!” He begged.

I looked at him while my tears blurred his face just like they had Grandpa’s.

“They killed him… they killed Grandpa,” I cried.

“I know,” tears fell from his eyes too. “I know.”

The rumbling of the trucks leaving drew my attention back to the Romans. My eyes spotted Leigh and Marcus getting into the truck. The tires skidded on the grass before taking off.

“Yes, Run! Because, I will not! I won’t hide from you anymore. It is your turn. So run! Run!” I bellowed.

One by one the soldiers that were left climbed desperately into the trucks and left.

My body shook with the excruciating pain.

“I will find you, and I will kill you all!” I yelled.

My eyes fell on Felix. He was passed out on the floor, Art’s sword still impaling him. They had left him behind. Cyn held my face gently in his hands, and looked into my eyes.

“I am truly sorry, my Goddess,” he whispered. His voice was full of agony. He kissed me and the calming energy flowed through both of us. I began to cry harder as the rage left me.

Pain was all I had left.

My body crumbled in his arms. He sat on the ground and I clung to him while he hugged me. The agony I felt took everything from me. My body shook while my eyes roamed the clearing not really seeing anything. My gaze followed Art. He crossed the portal carrying Eisha in his arms. She was unconscious. I sobbed and shut my eyes.

After a while, my sobs slowed down. Numbness slowly crept over me.

  I felt nothing.

  I was nothing.

“You are not alone, my Goddess. You have me. I love you.”

Cyn’s whisper was the last thing I heard. My eyes rolled back and I fell into the darkness.

  BRIANA

I stood in the in the middle of Cyn’s rainforest, it was filled with shrubs and exotic plants but all I could see were flashes of Grandpa’s funeral. It happened two days after the battle at the lake. It wasn’t the usual practice but I was still unconscious. They had held a Druid ceremony for him. Cyn had wrapped him in white linen and laid him in a wooden platform. It had beautiful ca
rvings. The symbol of their clan and the Triquetra were on it. He had been cremated. Cyn had spoken in Gaelic, their native language. A special blessing was said so Grandpa’s essence could be set free. He whispered another in his ear, so his soul could reach the Blessed Isles. It was like their heaven. I think. It had all been explained to me, but I still felt numb.

The Romans had taken everything from me.

I took a deep breath and held his clan medallion. The head of the bear hung around my neck, along with mine. After the funeral, Cyn had given it to me. He said Grandpa had told him that if anything was to happen to him. He should. Mine had a Bee on it. The Queen Bee was apparently my spirit animal. It made sense. Grandpa always called me, “His little Bee.” I held my medallion in my hand and flipped it to read the inscription on the back again.

“My spirit is stronger than any obstacle before me.”

Cyn’s Arms wrapped around me and I closed my eyes. Our connection awakened and the calm ran through my body. I took a deep breath and let go of the medallions.

“Are you ready, My Goddess,” he asked facing me. Emerald eyes stared right into my soul.

“No,” I said honestly, a tear spilled from my eyes. He kissed it off my cheek and rested his forehead to mine. I placed my right hand over his heart and felt our hearts beating as one. Perfectly synchronized. He was in as much pain as I was. I could feel it, just like he could feel mine. We were one in the same. His lips grazed mine and I gave into his kiss, needing him. The salty taste of my tears mixed with the taste of his lips. I took another breath and pulled back. I truly wasn’t ready but they had taken every choice from me.

My eyes fell on Lia and I took her hand.

“Are you sure you want to do this.”

She nodded. “I can’t go back. They could find me and I won’t risk putting my family in danger.

“We shall protect you, Lia. I give you my word.” Cyn expressed to her putting his hand on her shoulder to give her comfort.

She nodded. “I told them I had won a dream vacation through Europe and would be gone for three months. Hopefully all this will be over by then.” She sighed. “They actually believed me. Who believes that? Like who is going to get a three-month vacation paid by HR? I mean for real! Then my dad asked if that was going to stop me from making partner. I felt like yelling at him. ‘Dude I’m not a lawyer!’ He’s so annoying.”

She stopped when her voice broke. Her nature was to joke but her eyes were tearing. I knew she was scared. So was I.

I hugged her. “We can do this together,” I whispered and she nodded pulling back.

  “I know.”

I held her hand tight in mine. “I’m sorry I brought you into all of this.”

She shook her head. “You have no idea this would happen. You didn’t even know who your grandfather was. You don’t have to keep apologizing, Linda. This happened to you. You didn’t cause it. And for those responsible Karma will come.”

I nodded. But I still felt guilty for everything she went through. For having to bring her here.

“What are they going to do with Felix? Is it safe to have him here with us?”

I sighed, “I have no idea, girlie. Cyn healed his wound but said his essence was too weak. They have him under some kind of healing and sleeping spell or something. And he is isolated. Listen, you can’t mention it to anyone. No one can know they brought him here.

  She nodded “Don’t worry I won’t say a thing.”

“A ‘nochdadh dhuinn mus, agus leigeil le trannsa.”—Appear before us and grant us passage.

Cyn spoke and instantly the magic making the village invisible lifted. Just like it had when he first brought me here. The entrance to his village appeared in front of us. Lia gasped surprised and her hand left mine to cover her mouth. We could see the tree archway and the fire lanterns lighting the path. Cyn’s hut stood on the left since it was the first one in the village. Art stood in in the center of the entrance. He was dressed in dark jeans and a white buttoned up shirt. Except, the first four buttons were undone showing a glimpse of his hard chest. Unlike Cyn who was perfectly smooth. Art had a bit of hair on his chest. I wasn’t much for hair on a guy, but I had to admit. He actually looked really hot.

  “Welcome.” He said to us.

Lia’s hand returned to mine and she squeezed. “Hello Chewie.” She whispered. I actually chuckled. We looked at each other and she smiled at me. “I think I’m going to like it here.”

He walked towards us and dismay gripped my chest. I looked at him and my eyes teared up.

“I am truly sorry Art. I didn’t mean to. I would have never… I don’t know what happened,” my voice broke. He hugged me tight.

  “It’s ok. She is ok.”

He wiped the tears from my cheeks and winked at me. His dimples flashed.

“I like Cyn’s much better,” I mumbled sniffing.

Cyn chuckled and I blushed. “I really need to stop talking to myself.” I mumbled and wiped the tears from my cheeks again.

Cyn kissed me briefly. “I love you,” he whispered and held my hand.

“I love you too,” we began to walk into the village.

“It’s nice to formally meet you. My name is Art. I’m Cyn’s Brother.”

“It’s very nice to meet you Art. I’m Amelia. But just call me Lia. Or Baby, or mamasita, whatever you want.”

Art laughed, loudly, and I looked back at her shocked. She smiled at me wiggling her eyebrows and took the arm he had offered. They began walking behind us. I sighed.

When we got to the other huts I noticed everyone was outside. The Men, women and children, even the warriors. Everyone was here. Well not everyone. The slashes in my heart ached awakening my pain. We stopped as we reached the people. They all went down on one knee, put their right hands over their hearts and bowed to Cyn. I smiled. His people really loved him. My eyes went to his and I saw concern. I frowned.

  “Fàilte Dhachaigh Árd-shagart.”

A man’s voice said to me. My eyes snapped to him when he kneeled and bowed, then kissed my hand. I took a step back startled. My head turned and I searched Cyn’s eyes for an answer. “What did he say?” I asked, my pulse began to race.

He cupped my face and I felt the calming energy flowing through me. It didn’t help.

  “Welcome home High Priestess.”

  I gasped.

  The End…

No, this is only my beginning.
