Then Comes Baby Page 22

“Jamis?” She reached out and touched his arm. “Will you join us this one time for a huddle?”

He glanced at the faces of the children, debating. Then he shook his head and put the earplugs away. “One time, Nat. That’s it. I’m serious.”

  “I’m sure you are.”

  He scowled at her.

The new kids were running this way and that. “Let’s gather together!” she called. Amidst a lot of groaning and moaning, they all, including Sam, Ryan, Toni and Galen, eventually gathered around Natalie. Glancing into Jamis’s eyes, she leaned in. “What do we need to do to make this the best summer ever?”

  “This again?”

  “Oh, great.”

“Get used to it,” one of her kids muttered, probably Galen.

“Close your eyes,” Natalie said. “Everyone.” But she kept hers focused on her husband’s clear and loving gaze.

“Wish it, see it,” Jamis said, loud and strong. “Make it happen.”
