  Not for long.

My life has changed a lot over the past year. The first change was meeting and moving in with my dad—the same dad I never knew existed for the first seventeen years of my life. At the time, it felt like my world was falling apart, but now I realize that it was just my world coming together.

My dad is Mark Evers. I’m sure you’ve heard of him. He is the CEO and creator of Staying Connected, which is the world’s biggest social media website. He is a billionaire, but you wouldn’t know it if you met him on the street. He’s really just an ordinary guy. I will admit, our relationship was a bit rocky at first, but we’ve since worked through all the awkwardness and I don’t go a whole day without talking to him at least once.

My dad is married to a wonderful woman named Veronica. I despised her at first, but she’s really become a second mom to me over the past year. She will never replace my real mom, but I know that she will always be there for me.

That was the other big change in my life, my mom, my best friend, died. She had cancer and there wasn’t anything the doctors could do. Losing her was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. I still miss her, but the pain isn’t crippling anymore. I know that she’s still here, watching over me.

I also have a stepbrother. Some might consider this a bad thing, after meeting him, but really, once you get to know him, he’s not so bad. Toby Anderson has easily become one of my best friends, and I am grateful to have him in my life.

And, of course, there is the newest addition to my family, my sister, Kailee Evers. She was born just one week ago, and leaving her to come to college was absolutely the hardest thing I have ever done.

  Yep, that’s right.

I, Kihanna Evers, am now a college student at Berkeley. It’s only an hour drive from my dad’s house in Mountain View, California, and I have a feeling that I am going to be visiting often.

As I am unpacking in my dorm room, the door busts open and I let out a scream. I turn around to see none other than Ty Newman walking into my room.

Ty is my ex-boyfriend. He also shot his own father to save my life. His dad stalked me for nine months. It was an absolute nightmare, one I’m still not sure I’m awake from. But, for the first time since arriving in California, I am safe. His dad is in prison and he’s not getting out.

Since Ty actually helped put his dad behind bars, my dad paid for Ty’s college tuition, and is giving him money to live on until he gets his trust fund, which won’t be for another three years. So, things between us are sort of... complicated. But he’s one of my best friends.

Ty is very attractive. Oh, who am I kidding? He’s freaking hot. He is the type of guy that every girl turns to stare at when he walks into a room, including me. He’s got these gorgeous eyes. I dated him for three months, and I still have no idea what color they are. But they’re a mixture of green, gold and dark brown. I could, literally, stare into his eyes all day. You know... if it wasn’t creepy. He has dirty blond hair that is always an intentional mess. I’m not sure if he wakes up like that, or if he spends hours in front of the mirror sculpting it to perfection. Either way, whatever he’s doing works for him. He is tall. I’m 5’7”, and he towers over me by about six inches. Which is the perfect height. Gabe isn’t as tall as he, so when I wear heels, I’m taller than Gabe. But not Ty.

“You, in a skirt, is pretty much the hottest thing ever,” Ty says, walking inside. “The only thing hotter would be you, not in a skirt. Think that is something we could arrange?”

  I roll my eyes.

Did I mention that Ty is still in love with me? Because he is.

He’s also my boyfriend’s best friend.

Gabriel Johnson is my boyfriend. And he is blissfully oblivious to Ty’s feelings for me. Thank God. Because Gabe would freak out, if he knew. I definitely prefer to keep him in the dark on this one.

Ty makes himself right at home in my room and falls back onto my bed. He crosses his hands behind his head and kicks his feet up.

I just roll my eyes and continue unpacking.

“I figured you’d be out meeting sorority girls,” I say, as I start hanging my clothes inside the closet. “Or at least unpacking.”

“I paid some other freshman twenty bucks to unpack for me. Gabe is going to watch him and make sure he does a good job,” he says. “And why would I hang out with sorority girls when I can hang out with the hottest girl on campus? And I happen to know her boyfriend will be preoccupied for the next couple of hours. I say we make use of this bed and rejoice in the fact that you don’t have a roommate.”

“You might think it’s okay to cheat, but I don’t,” I say, not bothering to hold back any bite in my comment.

When Ty and I dated before, he cheated on me. And, okay, maybe I didn’t put one hundred percent of myself into our relationship, but still... I can’t forgive him for what he did back then. I see how Ty is. If I dated him now, I highly doubt it would be any different.

Not that I want to date him. I am happy with my current boyfriend.

“You and I both know that you aren’t going to last. I mean, really, who marries their high school boyfriend?” Ty says. “You’re in college now. Why do you even want to be tied down? Unless, you know, you’re into kinky sex. I’d like to tie you down. Or maybe you could tie me down. I’ve never had a girl do that before. It
could be fun.”

As much as I hate to admit it, Ty’s comment turns me on. I’ve never had sex with him, but if I had, I imagine it would’ve been amazing.

Gabe and I have good sex, I guess. You know, when we have sex. Since we got back from our summer vacation in Bora Bora, we haven’t done it. And that can’t be healthy for a relationship. Hopefully, now that we’re at college, things will heat up a little bit. I mean, let’s face it, a girl has needs.

“So, how long has it been since you and Gabe had sex?” Ty asks, as if reading my mind.

“How can you tell it’s been a while?”

“Well, I wasn’t sure,” he says, grinning. “But I am now.”

I groan. “Too long. Like, almost three weeks.”

“I bet your sex is very vanilla too.”

I don’t bother answering his question. It’s really not any of his business.

  But, he’s right.

I was a virgin when Gabe and I first had sex. He’s also the only guy I’ve ever been with. I mean, I’ve done stuff with other guys, but it’s never gone that far. And I always thought I was sexually satisfied until I talked to one of the many girls that Toby is sleeping with. She talked about how many orgasms he gave her during sex. And it was then that I realized I’ve never had an orgasm. I mean, I thought I had. And sex feels good. But it always leaves me feeling frustrated and I’m not sure what to do about it. Should I tell Gabe? I keep putting it off because I’m not sure how to bring it up.

“When you... have sex with a girl,” I say to Ty, “does she always... you know?”

  “Always what?” Ty asks.

  “You know... get off.”

His mouth slowly turns up into a grin. I can tell he’s amused with our conversation. “Always.”

“Well, I don’t think I have. Like, ever.”

Ty’s mouth falls open. “You know this only makes me want to fuck you even more, right? Because I want to be the first guy to give you an orgasm. That would be so hot.”

My face grows warm and I turn away from him.

I probably shouldn’t have told my ex-boyfriend that.

“Not going to happen,” I quickly say. “And get your shoes off my bed.”

Ty rolls his eyes, but scoots to the edge of the bed and sits. “So, I did happen to run into a couple of sorority girls on the way over here.”

  “Of course, you did.”

“You sound jealous,” Ty says, raising an eyebrow. “They were sophomores. And don’t worry, they aren’t half as attractive as you.”

“I don’t care either way,” I say, though I do like hearing him tell me I’m attractive. But every girl likes to be told she’s pretty, every once in a while, it doesn’t matter who is telling her.

“It sounds like you do,” he says. “But, they invited me to a party at the Alpha... something... house. It’s low key. Only a select few are invited.”

“And why would I want to go hang out with a bunch of sorority girls?” I ask.

“It’s not just girls. The fraternity will be there too.” Ty pauses. “On second thought, you’re right. You should just stay in tonight. Maybe do a little reading. Maybe you and Gabe will even cuddle.”

  Oh, God.

I have seriously turned into that girl. The girl who hangs out with her boyfriend instead of her friends.

  This changes now.

“I’m in,” I say. “What time should I be ready?”

“Eight,” Ty answers. “And wear something hot.”

I look in my closet. I definitely have an overabundance of dresses, thanks to Veronica. There is this purple and black dress I have been dying to wear. But before I can grab it, an arm reaches over me and pulls out a short, silver dress. It’s spaghetti strapped, it has a big pink sash tied around the waist, and it flares out. But it’s really short. Veronica bought it for me, but I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to wear it, because of how short it is.

  “This one,” Ty says.

“I don’t know,” I say, biting my lip. “It’s really short.”

  “Exactly.”

“Isn’t it too dressy for a sorority party?” I ask.

“Who cares? You will be the hottest girl there. Every guy is going to wish he was taking you home.” Ty hangs the dress back in the closet. “You’re right. You definitely shouldn’t wear that. If you do, I have a feeling I’m going to be very jealous of every guy there who looks at you.”

I shake my head. “It doesn’t matter, Ty. I’m going home with Gabe, anyway.”

“You and Gabe haven’t had sex in three weeks. And when you do have sex, it’s not even good enough for you to get off. Gabe is no longer a threat,” Ty says.

  “Gabe is my boyfriend.”

“Not for long,” Ty says, smiling big.

He doesn’t wait for me to respond. He just walks out of my dorm room.

  Ugh!

Ty Newman is the most frustrating guy on the planet.

  8 p.m.

I thought we were past this.

I end up wearing the dress that Ty said I should. I have to admit, it does look good on me. Maybe I should let Ty pick out my clothes every day.

I was going to wear my hair down and straight, like always, but I was bored this afternoon, so I decided to curl my hair. And it looks good with the dress.

Ty smirks when he sees what I’m wearing.

I ignore him and walk into Gabe’s arms.

“I like this dress,” Gabe says, running his hands down my sides.

“I do, too,” Ty agrees, his smile bigger than ever.

Gabe is too busy looking at my legs to notice Ty. Which makes me happy. Not because I don’t want him to notice Ty’s reaction, but because I like Gabe’s reaction. Maybe we will actually have sex tonight.

“You’re so lucky your girlfriend has her own dorm room,” Ty tells Gabe as we get into my Range Rover. “I’m pretty sure all the guys will be jealous. You’ll be getting laid all the time.”

I can hear the tiniest bit of sarcasm in Ty’s voice.

Ugh, why did I have to tell him what I did earlier? He’s never going to let me live it down now.

“Our relationship is about more than just sex,” Gabe says.

He’s right. It is. But still, you can’t blame a girl for wanting more sex along with the other stuff, right?

“I’m sure it is,” Ty says. “I don’t know about you guys, but I am going to find a hot sorority girl tonight.”

  Gabe knuckle bumps him.

I look over at Gabe. “You’d better not plan on finding a hot sorority girl.”

“No way,” he says. “I don’t need one. I’ve got you.”

  I grin. “Good answer.”

We end up parking about three blocks away from the party. Two blocks into our walk, I am already regretting my decision to wear four-inch stilettos.

“Need me to carry you?” Ty asks, noticing my discomfort.

“Maybe on the way back,” I say, laughing.

“We need to go over the party rules,” Gabe says.

  “Party rules?” Ty asks.

“This is serious,” Gabe says. “First rule, don’t take a drink from anybody you don’t know.”

This makes Ty laugh. “A girl won’t have to drug me to get me into bed.”

Gabe rolls his eyes. “Also, we should stick together.”

“No offense, but it’s kind of hard to pick up girls when you’re around,” Ty says. “You always talk about Kihanna non-stop. It makes girls run away.”

“Look, let’s just all do our own thing,” I say to Gabe and Ty. “I don’t know about you guys, but I kind of want to make friends. We can just check up on each other every once in a while or something.”

“What if guys hit on you?” Gabe asks.

“They won’t,” I say, waving him off. Because, seriously, aside from the fact that my dad is a billionaire, there is nothing exciting about me. I’m... ordinary. And people here don’t know that I’m Kihanna Evers, so they won’t think twice when t
hey look at me.

“They will too,” Gabe and Ty say at the same time.

I shake my head at them.

There is nothing about me that stands out. I have ordinary dark blond hair, and dark brown eyes. My boobs are normal sized for my body. Though, I guess in this dress and these heels my legs do look long.

“It doesn’t matter. I’m a big girl. I can take care of myself,” I say.

“I don’t know,” Gabe says. “I really don’t like the idea of other guys hitting on my girlfriend.”

We stop outside of the sorority. The lawn is filled with people, some of them already look drunk.

  I turn to Gabe.

“Do you trust me?” I ask.

  “You know I do.”

“Then you should know that I’ll say no to any guy who tries to hit on me.”

“Fair enough,” he says. “Well, then. I guess we should just say goodbye now.”

“Okay. Umm... I guess I’ll see you around,” I say.

Gabe gives me a hug, a short kiss on the lips and then walks inside.

“Are you sure about this?” Ty asks. “I thought the point of going to college together was sticking together.”

“It is,” I say. “But I know if we all hang out, then I’ll use you guys as a crutch instead of making new friends.”

“Fine. But call me if you need me,” he says, giving me a side hug.

I walk towards the door, take a deep breath and open it. I walk confidently into my first college party. And then I trip over my four-inch heels, nearly falling on my face. Somebody catches me before I completely fall. I’m afraid to look up.

“Is everybody staring at me?” I ask the person who is currently holding me up.

  “No,” the male voice says.

I sigh in relief and look up. And he’s right. Nobody is looking at me. Thank. God.

“Hi, I’m Kihanna,” I say, looking at my rescuer.

“I’m Carter,” he says. “Nice to meet you.”
