The Red Sun (Legends of Orkney)
Page 30
Think, Baron. Don’t die now.
Then he had it.
“Gungnir,” he shouted, and held his hand up.
Teren and the redhead, Heppner, looked at Sam as if he had lost his mind. Then their eyes widened as an old bronze spear appeared in his hand.
“Agathea!” Sam shouted, and threw the spear with all his might. It whizzed through the air and across the clearing, heading straight for Agathea’s heart.

I created the magical realm of Orkney out of an abundance of love for my son, Alex, and to satisfy his challenge to write a book he would enjoy reading. Without his faith in me, I would never have had the courage to begin the journey of creating this fantastical realm and developing the characters whom I have grown to love so much.
A big thanks to my family for being my biggest fans and pushing me to publish these books so others can share in the legendary tales. A very special thanks to the editors who inspired me to get better at the craft of writing, especially Brent Friedman for his insight into story and world building and his invention of the word jookberries. Final thanks to the wonderful cover artist Jonathan Stroh, who brought The Red Sun to life in vivid color.
To Orkney! Long may her legends grow!
