“Elizabeth was right,” McKenzie said. “Or the verses in Proverbs were anyway. As Proverbs 27 says, ‘Who can stand before jealousy? Better is open rebuke than hidden love.’ ”

“The L word? You mean…” Kellie looked at Alexis and then at Chad.

“Yeah, I did it for you,” Chad said. “You’ve spent so long searching for this animal, and I know you were about to give up. I was worried about you. I hated seeing you so sad, so I made the suit and started letting people see me in it. I wanted you to have hope again, even if it wasn’t real. And I figured it would help with the sales at the shop.”

“I should be mad,” said Kellie. “After all, now I know there is no Bigfoot. But you were really that worried about me?”

  Chad nodded.

“After a while I really began to enjoy it,” Chad said. “It was fun to make people stare and run after their cameras. Then the next day I would be in the paper or on the news. I got carried away.”

Alexis stopped recording, and she and McKenzie left Chad and Kellie to talk. The Camp Club Girls had done it again.

The girls walked back into the waiting area just as Rick came back inside.

“Dr. Rick,” Alexis said, “you’re not going to believe this.”

Two weeks later, Alexis got a pleasant surprise when she checked her email.

Hey, Alexis! Dr. Rick Porter, here!

I thought I would give you an update. Things in Washington have settled down a bit. Kellie’s shop was damaged in the eruption, but it wasn’t very bad. She says she’s always wanted to remodel anyway, so she and Chad are fixing things up. Chad set up a website for her, and she’s selling a ton of sculptures. I guess it’s because of the eruption. People are curious. They’re also developing a new line of business taking people on more Bigfoot sighting tours. As part of it, I hear Chad makes an appearance in his costume.

I’ve been asked to be the best man for the wedding, by the way. That is, unless the two of them find the real Bigfoot between now and then.

I got a job at the university! I’m going to be a professor. Can you believe it?

By the way, how did your documentary turn out? Keep me posted! Let me know when you make your debut on the Discovery Channel! Ha ha!

And if you or McKenzie ever want to do a summer internship in the Pacific Northwest, you just let me know. I know talent when I see it!

  Later!

  Rick

Alexis typed her response right away. She knew that she owed a lot of her success to Dr. Rick. Without him, she wouldn’t have had much film to work with.

  Dr. Rick,

It’s good to hear from you! Thanks again for all of your help while we were visiting. I wouldn’t have been able to make my documentary without you! It would have been really boring with only one shot of the mountain.

My show loved it! It’s funny that you mentioned the Discovery Channel, because the TV station is actually talking to them about airing it! Can you believe it!?

Again, thank you for all of your help, and thank you for believing in the Camp Club Girls too. We wouldn’t have found Chad…I mean, Bigfoot…without you! ☺

I hear Husky’s going to be the ring bearer at the big event!

By the way, congratulations on the job! You’ll be a great teacher. Who knows, I might see you in five years. I hear the University of Washington has a great journalism program!

  Later, Gator!

  Alexis

Alexis knew it was too early to think about college, but who knew? Maybe she would end up in Washington! For now, she would focus on finishing middle school. Besides, summer was just around the corner, and that meant summer camp and the reunion of all six of the Camp Club Girls! Alexis smiled at the thought.

There were sure to be plenty of mysteries to solve in the next five years.
