  “For how long?”

His smile was full of boyish charm. “I was thinking about forever.”

Bella’s breath caught in her throat. Forever was exactly what she wanted. “But what about your grandmother and the foundation?”

  “What about them?”

Her eyebrows rose. “You have to ask?”

“Compared to you, they mean nothing to me.”

“But you-” she started to object but he leaned in to kiss her, quite effectively cutting short her protest.

“But nothing.” He tightened his arm around her waist. “My grandmother is quite content to be torturing my cousins. She pitched a royal fit when I resigned but I secretly suspect she admires my decision.”

  “You’ve completely resigned?”

He nodded. “The day I left your grandfather’s chapel, I set the wheels in motion. It took a while to extricate myself but I’m now a free man. I took some time to make amends with my father, I’d always judged him harshly for eschewing his responsibilities to the family business. Now I realize he was being true to himself and I wanted him to know I respected his choice.”

“Because you’ve made the same choice.”

“I have. Now it’s time for you to make your choice.” He gave her ring finger a pointed glance. “Shall we move that ring to the other hand so that it’s a proper engagement ring?”

Bella smiled up at him. “Is that a proposal?”

“No.” Colin took a step backward and knelt down on one knee. He took her hand in his. “This is. Bella Johnson, my beautiful Bella, will you do me the greatest honor of becoming my wife?”

Happy tears filled Bella’s eyes. She nodded. “I would love to spend my life with you.”

Her words were greeted with a round of applause and cheers of congratulations from the catering staff who’d quietly assembled. Colin stood and slipped her ring from her right hand to the left.

One of the waiters brought over two flutes of champagne. “Congratulations,” he said as he handed them each a glass. “Be happy.”

“Thank you,” Colin said. “We will.” He lifted his glass. “To us.”

Bella, her heart full of happiness, touched her glass to his. “To forever.”
