“Would you kill me if I said that you're cute as hell when you're mad?” he asked as he kissed along my neck again.
“I just might,” I said. “Let's see what you've got in mind before I figure out what I'm gonna do with you.”
“Ah, then some punishments are in order?”
A smirk formed on my lips as he pulled my shirt off over my head.
“I guess you'll have to find out.”
He climbed on top of me and sat up for long enough to unbutton his shirt and pull it over his head. My eyes locked onto that gorgeous, sculpted body of his—I just couldn't get enough of it. My hands shot to his square, solid pecs and I let my fingertips graze over their outlines, getting more turned on by the second. I couldn't believe that I'd gone from wanting to throw a lamp at Rhys to…this, in the span of only a few minutes, but I didn't care—he was all I wanted.
“Let me see if can make things up to you,” he said, moving down to my legs and going to work on my pants button.
“I don't know,” I said breathlessly. “You'd have to have something really special in mind to do that.”
He flashed me a look that seemed to indicate he was more than up to the challenge. Slipping his fingers under my waistband, he pulled my pants and panties off with a smooth motion, taking off my shoes as he reached my feet. I leaned up just a bit and undid the clasp of my bra, and soon, I was totally naked.
Rhys placed his hands on the tops of my thighs and leaned in, kissing the sensitive skin of up my legs as he moved closer and closer to right where I wanted him. His lips traveled all over my body, over my hips, along my stomach, then finally to my lips. Slipping his hands to my inner thighs, he spread my legs open, his eyes drifting down to my pussy. Goddamn, I wanted him so badly.
And, evidently, he wanted me too. He kissed along my inner thighs, the sounds of his lips against my skin filling the air, that sensual wet smacking that was charged with erotic delight. I placed my hands on the back of his head and guided him right where I wanted him; I couldn't wait another moment.
The first touch of his tongue against my most sensitive area sent shivers of pleasure through my body.
“Ah, ah!” I moaned as the tip of his tongue pressed against my clit. “Oh, God!”
Not even two seconds into it, and I was already feeling like my body was about to explode into atoms.
He spread me open gently and went to work. His tongue moved slowly and skillfully over my folds, its smooth, wet surface pressing against my clit and shooting out electric crackles of delight. He slipped two fingers inside of me as his tongue circled my clit, the twin sensations pushing me closer and closer to my peak.
I spread my legs more, giving him all the room he needed, my hands still pressing firmly on the back of his head. He was soon in a rhythm, fingering and licking me, the soft lapping sounds of his tongue against me heavenly to the ear.
Then, almost without warning, a pulsing orgasm shot through my body.
“I'm…oh, I'm coming!” I yelled, announcing my pleasure to the room.
Hot waves crashed over me as Rhys continued to work, my hands shaking against the back of his head.
As intense as my orgasm had been, I was far from satisfied. Rhys's oral skills were a joy to behold, but I needed more. And, as he lifted up from below, wiping my wetness off of his mouth with the back of his forearm, I knew he was of the same mind.
He crawled up to me and kissed me hard for a moment before moving his lips to my ear.
“Tell me what you want.”
“I want that cock of yours inside me, right now,” I said, my voice coming out in a demanding tone that hit my ear as unlike me.
Grinning wickedly, Rhys reached down and undid his belt and buttons. Moments later, his pants and underwear were gone. His long, thick cock was rock-solid, and as I reached down and wrapped my fingers around it, a pleased smile formed on my lips. I stoked it gently, feeling the vibrations of Rhys's moans through his chest.
“You ready?” he asked.
“I've been ready since I walked through that damn door.”
He smirked and reached down. Taking his length into his hand, he pressed his head teasingly against my clit, the sensation of him against it so good that for a moment, I thought I might come again right then.
He moved his head down and placed it right at the opening of my wet lips and held it there for a tantalizing moment. Then, his eyes locked onto mine, he slowly slid inside of me.
“Oh my God, oh my God,” I moaned as he moved into me, inch by inch.
He let out a low, resonant moan as he penetrated me, filling me in just the way I wanted. Once he was buried to the hilt, he held still for a moment, and I savored that sweet sensation of being completely filled.
Then, he began moving, rocking his hips up and down, every muscle of his ripped physique activated by his motions. I watched his body work, watched his face tighten with pleasure and concentration, watched his cock plunge in and out of me over and over. I placed my hands on his shoulders, feeling the broad, thick muscles flex and release with each thrust.
My hands swept along his body, taking in the hard lines of his shape, coming to a rest on the perfect curves of his ass as his slow plunges shifted into hard pounds. I could tell that the anger and frustration he'd been feeling during our argument was the fire burning in the engine of his sexual power, and I was more than happy to be on the receiving end.
“You feel so goddamn good,” I moaned, grabbing onto his ass and guiding him into me just where I wanted him.
He said nothing, instead furiously driving into me over and over, bucking hard. Before I knew it, another orgasm appeared on the horizon of my pleasure. Rhys gazed down at me, locking eyes and drilling into me so hard that I almost couldn't take it. There was passion and fury behind our lovemaking—all the ingredients to a good angry fuck.
“Come in me,” I squealed, my orgasm now so, so very close.
That was all he needed to hear. With a trio of hard thrusts, Rhys let out a long grunt as he emptied himself into me. The sight of him coming was just the thing I needed to go over the edge, and soon, another powerful orgasm was ripping through my body. We came together, pressing our skin against one another's, our eyes both screwed shut in total delight.
Finally, when we both finished, Rhys collapsed on top of me. After regaining our breath, he opened his eyes and looked at me with a curious expression.
“Oh, Miss May,” he said, running his hand through my now wild hair. “What am I going to do with you?”
I met his bemused expression with a look of sly cunning.
“I guess you'll have to think of something.”
“Lucky for you, I've got a few things in mind.”
Then, we kissed, and the rest of the world seemed to melt away.
Chapter 21
Rhys
I woke up early the next morning. As the early daylight poured into my bedroom, my eyes lingered on Cassidy. The sheet draped over her hips, I watched her chest rise and fall, listening to the sound of her breath. Her hair was tussled over her beautiful face, and I found my eyes drifting down to the bulge of her belly; I still couldn't believe that there wasn't just one of my children in here, but three.
After a time, realizing that I wasn't going to get back to sleep, I prepared some coffee and stepped out onto the balcony, watching the sun rise over the city. With a sharp pang of realization, I remembered that today was the day of Nina and my big date. I wasn't looking forward to it. The more I considered this strange situation I found myself in, the more I realized that it was untenable. I was a fool to think that I could keep all of these balls in the air.
But I felt stuck. Coming clean would upend so much, and part of me felt that the only way out of the labyrinth of lies I’d created was through them.
“There you are.”
I turned to see Cassidy standing at the entrance to the balcony, a light, silky robe hanging attractively on her body.
She walked to me with slow s
teps, rested her head on my shoulder, and kissed me gently on the cheek.
“You're up.”
“Couldn't sleep all that well,” she said. “And I think it's only going to get worse the more pregnant I get.”
That was another matter—the arrangement as planned would mean me not being there for Cassidy during this whole process. Sure, I could visit, but it wouldn't be the same. There'd be nights and days ahead when she'd be alone, possibly suffering from one pregnancy-related ailment or another, and I'd be unable to help her, be there for her.
It didn't sit right with me. Not at all.
“You…you know that you have to go soon.”
Cassidy took her head from my shoulder and nodded slowly.
“Yeah, I figured as much. Can't let the paparazzi see a former employee leaving your apartment.”
“Just can't be too careful,” I said. “And it's better that you leave sooner than later.”
She took my coffee cup from my hand and brought it to her lips.
“I'll get dressed and you can call me a cab.”
With that, she handed me back my coffee and went back inside. It struck me how matter-of-fact Cassidy was just then. She didn't fight; she didn't argue—she just went along with it. It was as though she'd resigned herself to dealing with the requirements of this situation that I'd forced her into.
I called one of my drivers and told him to be out front in fifteen minutes. By the time I finished my coffee and stepped back inside, Cassidy was seated on the couch and waiting patiently. Her eyes locked onto mine, and I felt like I should say something, anything.
“Listen,” I said, taking a place next to her on the couch. “I don't know what's going to happen, but I'll figure this all out.”
Cassidy shook her head sadly.
“You're still talking about this like it's all out of your control. But you know that you can end this all whenever you want. You can come clean and set everything right. Then, you could step out from under all of these lies.”
“You know it's not that simple.”
“You only think that because you're insisting on making it so complicated. But you know I'm right.”
“I just…I just have to find some way to get out of this without causing a scandal. I have Nina's reputation to worry about too, you know.”
“If she knew the truth, I'm sure she'd understand.”
Before either of us could say another word, my phone rang. It was my driver. I told him that his passenger would be down in just a moment.
“Just think about how simple this could be,” said Cassidy as she stepped into the elevator. “If only you wanted it to be.”
Then, the doors slid shut, and she was gone.
The workday passed in a blur, and before I knew it, I was stepping out of the office, my phone buzzing with a call from Nina.
“If it isn't my handsome date,” she said. “I hope you're still on for this evening?”
“I am,” I said.
“Good, good. I'm thinking that we ought to arrive in style, so I've arranged a limo to pick you up at six thirty. That should give you plenty of time to look pretty for me.”
I opened my mouth to speak, to tell her that not just the date, but the whole thing, was off. But instead, I said:
“Sounds good.”
“See you in a little bit.”
I hung up, realizing that I wasn't looking forward to the evening ahead one bit. And what's worse, I could sense by Nina's tone that she was taking a shine to the situation. I guessed that whatever apprehensions she'd had about the plan were quickly overshadowed by the fact that just about every move she and I made together was documented by the paparazzi. The two of us had been front page news on the gossip sites for the last few weeks, some of them even wondering if she and I were going to be tying the knot.
An hour later, I was back at home, standing in front of my bedroom mirror and fixing my tie, thankful that at least at Saffron we'd be able to have a fairly low-key evening. Before too long, my phone once again lit up with a call from Nina.
“I'm here,” were her only words before hanging up.
I let out a frustrated sigh before taking one last look at myself and heading out. Sure enough, down in front of my building was a jet-black limo. Nina, dressed in an elegant white evening gown, stood leaning against it, a broad smile on her face.
“What do you think?” she said, stretching her arms out as I approached.
“About what, the ostentatious limo or that lovely little number you're wearing?”
“Either or is fine,” she said, leaning in and giving me a kiss on the cheek.
Moments later, we were in the back of the limo and on our way.
“Well?” she asked. “Are you excited about tonight?”
“More surprised that you were able to get a reservation,” I said, watching the city pass by beyond the windows.
Nina raised her thin eyebrows in surprise.
“You think that they wouldn't move heaven and earth to get San Bravado's hottest couple into their best table tonight? I think you're underestimating just how much you and I are the talk of the fashion world, my darling Rhys.”
That's what I was afraid of, I thought, taking a sip of my whiskey and letting it play on my tongue before bringing it down in a hard swallow. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched as a curious expression formed on Nina's face.
“You don't seem too enthused about all of this,” she said. “Isn't this what you wanted?”
I knew this was my chance. Right then and there, I could've come clean, told her everything. But I didn't.
“Just a little worn-out from the work week,” I said.
“Well, you'd better get in a little rest and relaxation,” she said. “Because I'm thinking you and I should start talking about just when we're going to do our next line together. I mean, we've got so much free publicity going right now that we'd be fools not to put something out soon.”
“We can talk about all that at dinner,” I said.
Nina slinked over to my side of the limo.
“Something on your mind?” she asked. “You know you can tell your dear, dear girlfriend anything.”
Not this, I thought.
“Just need a little booze in me,” I said.
“Well, we'll have plenty of that in just a few minutes.”
Down the road, the restaurant came into view. Outside was a gathering of people, all packed into a tight knot.
“What're all those people doing out front?” I asked. “I thought Saffron was a low-key kind of affair?”
“Not tonight,” she said, a sly little smile forming on her lips. “See, when I told the owners that I wanted a seat for this evening, they told me that they could work us in if I could bring them a little free publicity. They scratch my back, I scratch ours, you know?”
“That's all paparazzi?” I asked in a disbelieving tone. “Are you serious?”
Nina was taken aback.
“Are you seriously upset about this?” she asked. “Isn't this what you wanted?”
“Not…not tonight.”
“Well,” she said, “it's what you're going to get.”
The limo pulled up in front of Saffron, the paparazzi swarming the car instantly.
“Now,” she said, taking my hand, “put a big smile on that handsome face of yours—we've got a show to put on.”
Nina pulled open the door and the cameras went nuts. Picture after picture was snapped of the two of us as we stepped out of the limo. Reporters shot out questions as we made our way to the entrance. But I was in no mood to talk.
“Rhys, Nina!” shouted out one of the reporters. “What do you have to say to the rumors of an engagement?”
Nina stopped in front of the reporter amidst the incessant camera snapping, a big smile on her face.
“Oh, that's all just talk,” she said. “But Rhys and I are very, very happy. Who knows what the future has in store for us?”
She beckoned me to come to her side,
and I complied. I slipped my arm around her waist and smiled big for the reporters.
“Can we get inside?” I murmured into her ear, keeping the smile on my face.
“Fine, fine,” she said.
With that, we made our way into the elegant interior of the restaurant. The hostess, clearly starstruck, led the two of us up to their rooftop patio, where we were seated at a small table off in the corner, the eyes of just about every other patron locked onto us in surprise. I scanned the clientele, recognizing more than a few as big names in Hollywood, fashion, and the city's tech industry.
Then, with horror, I watched as more than a few patrons pulled out cameras and snapped photos of the two of us.
“Wait a minute,” I asked. “Are there paparazzi here in the damn restaurant?”
Nina waved her hand dismissively.
“Just pretend they're not here, darling. Enjoy your evening.”
I stewed in my seat as the waiter arrived with a bottle of wine. I took a sip of my drink, frustrated beyond measure.
“Rhys, Nina!” shouted a voice to my right.
Turning in my seat, I was face to face with a camera which quickly snapped a picture, the flash blinding me for a moment.
“Any chance of a few questions?” the reporter asked.
“You've got two seconds to get the hell away before I knock your damn teeth out,” I hissed.
The reporter's eyes went wide and he rushed out of there as fast as possible.
That was it—the final straw. I was done.
“Rhys, what the hell was that?” asked Nina.
“That was me finally losing my patience,” I said angrily.
“You are aware that what you just did is going to be all over the internet in five minutes?”
“I don't care.”
“You'd better start caring,” she said.
I took another sip of my wine and picked my next words carefully.
“I'm done with this,” I said.
Nina crinkled her eyebrows.
“Do you have any idea how hard it was to get these reservations? Come on, Rhys—just have some wine and something to eat and you'll be feeling right as rain.”
