The Arched World

“I tried to, believe me, I wanted to be mad at you, after all you've done, and kept doing, over and over, spoiling everything—” he tried to say, locked under her body, at peace, accepting her presence with relaxed arms.

“I didn't spoil anything. I wanted to save them.”

“It doesn't matter. Nothing matters now, I don't want to deal with them anymore. I just want to... I just want to live for a while.”

  “In your Terra?”

“No, in this world, Ai.iA’s creation. I loved watching everything by your side. These native humans, this col.loc stuff... what a crazy idea!”

“Ha! You think so? Oh, great, and I like it too, you know that.”

“I do, but only now I understand it. It’s beautiful and... and... you’re beautiful.”

“Me? What...” She closed her eyes in a couple of embarrassed giggles. “You sure had a unique experience when touching that native woman, huh?”

“No denying that, but that’s only a part of it. What you created in here, so many ways of bringing Utopia... I didn’t know there were so many possibilities...”

“That’s just the beginning. I can think of countless other ideas!”

“Incredible. Our whole mission was... was out of this world. Out of my world, I mean. I loved playing with you, fighting, struggling, whatever it is that we’ve been doing since we defeated the World Voice.”

“You’re learning more about yourself, Colin. That’s what we do... It’s not because of me, you’d learn too with any other Creator.”

“Ok, maybe so, but I’m glad it was with you. Who else would bug me about a world in which my people don’t have to suffer?”

Dalana rolled off, leaving Colin free to look at the misty sky with a clearer mind. She got up and offered him a hand. He took it, standing again, walking. They marched in silence until they could look at the city distantly enough to have the whole picture. It expanded, with the ou.uo working on the foundations of a fourth tower.

“I want to propose something to you.” Dalana placed her right hand on Colin’s back.

“Pr... propose? What?” Colin said, fearing the weight of the word.

“We can create a world together; did you know that? The dominant Creator doesn’t have to be just one. We can have one together. I would like to create one with you, when we have the chance.”

“Oh, I see... Well, you know, I will have to think about that. It could be nice, later. But I’m in this for Terra, that’s no secret, and I don’t want to hurt you.”

“It could be your Terra with my Utopia, a new world with the best of both! It will be so—”

“Dalana ... Dalana, my friend, listen to me. Let us at Terra build our own Utopia, please. We want it, believe me, but not because a Creator will suddenly make it possible. We want it if we can have it on our own. You’ve helped enough. That’s why I want it back.”

Dalana swayed her torso, pursing her lips. She placed her arm around Colin’s waist, taking him along her swing, making him laugh. He had spent time long enough with her to know that she agreed with him and celebrated it. Dalana didn’t just say yes and left everything unharmed. She always called for a dance.

“Should we clean this rubble or not?” Dalana said, walking on the valley on which the monstrous trucks fell and disassembled in the fall.

“To be honest, I’ve always been fond of ruins. I have no idea of what the people in New Terra will think of Laura’s failure. Will they come looking for her or what? Will they try to continue her goal? I don’t know. So, I think it would be nice to leave something for them to investigate.”

“Fine. It will not stay here for long, though. These mountains will take it away with their growth.”

“That’s something they’ll have to deal with. This is how the rest of the universe is, right? I’m just curious about those sparking lights up on that big wheel. Do you see them?”

“Sparkling lig... oh, yeah, yeah, I do. That’s a Creator.”

“A Creator? Wow, it’s been so long since we met one of them.”

“Yeah, in vast worlds like this they are rarer to find, each going their own way with lots of places to explore. Do you want to talk to him?”

  “Sure.”

They climbed the small mounds of debris to reach the top of the monstrous wheel, where the light sparkles glittered amidst the air.

“Hey, how are you doing? Her name is Dalana, mine is Colin, what’s yours?”

But the Creator didn’t reply. Colin frowned to Dalana.

“Are you sure it can talk to us?” he said.

“We probably have to enter it to communicate. Some choose to do things this way.”

  “Enter it?”

“Yeah, like this.” Dalana stepped in the middle of the sparkling cloud.

She pulled him with her, and a voice spoke.

“Thank you for entering me, you wonderful creatures of eternity. I love you, and I love to love you. Wonderful action. I love what you are doing, Colin.”

  “You know my name?”

“I do, I love your name, Creator of new chance. I saw your effort on the little lovely place of your old lovely world on this new lovely world. You wanted to bring your love to other places, and I loved everything.”

“Oh, well, thanks, I had a few surprises in here myself.” Colin said.

“I know you did, oh, I know you did, my love. And others know too. I even had the chance of meeting the loving mother of your replica world, Mae, and we had a lovel—”

  “You met Mae? Terra’s Creator?”

“Indeed, lovely Mae, yes, before coming down here, on your lovely place, we—”

“Where is she? How can I find her, please?”

“No wonder you want to find her, she’s one of my loves, I adore her, I do. She’s hiding in your piece of this lovely world.”

“Hiding? Can’t you tell me where she might be?”

“I wish I could, dear love. I love what you’re doing, I really do. But she’s hiding, and I love hiding. All I know is that she had love in her eyes, love for what you did up there. She’s somewhere in your creation, I love it there and she loves it too, of that I am certain.”

“That’s great, oh my, that’s... that’s nice to hear, thank you, thank you very much. I have to find her!”

“Are you over with the action here then? I loved what you and Dalana were doing, I did. She’s a lovely challenge, isn’t she? I love her Utopias, although I love other worlds better, but they are lovely places nevertheless.”

Colin looked at Dalana and her face sparkled with the shiny dusk of the loving Creator. She smiled.

“I am, I am a lovely person, and Colin is too, so are you, my love. But we must go now. Colin won’t find his peace until he meets with Mae. She created him, and she’s the only one who can give him what he wishes now. And we love peace, don’t we?”

“Indeed, we do, oh, how we do love peace! Farewell, my loves. It is a pleasure to exist with you two.”

  “Bye, my love,” Dalana said.

  “Bye, my love,” Colin said.
