Lindy chuckled, but said, “I was thinking somewhere a little closer to home.” It came out of her mouth before she’d considered it, but then, she supposed that was what Chicago was now. Home.
It was nice having a home. She was staying at Alex’s apartment, but only until she sorted out having “Rosalind Frederick” sell the brownstone to her new identity, Lindsay Taylor.
“Oh, yeah?” Alex perked up. “What were you thinking?”
“Well . . . I promised Hadley I’d look into her brother’s murder.”
“Ah. A cold case.”
“Yep. It was ten or twelve years ago, I believe. He was a cop, and she thinks shades might have been involved.”
“And it’d have to be an off-the-books investigation,” he mused. “Sounds right up our alley.”
She brightened. “You wanna work a cold case with me?”
Alex kissed the top of her head. “Miss Taylor, I literally thought you’d never ask.”
