Her Cowboy Daddy

Cady and Jeb nodded, and said in unison, “We absolutely promise that we will always be here for you.”

Delighted, the boys relaxed, and soon were telling Cady and Jeb about their latest exploits in great detail. Finally it was time for them to go.

They said goodbye and left with their mom and dad.

Jeb and Cady were alone with the twins.

With Rose cradled in her arms, she looked over at Jeb. He was so big and strong and handsome, so unbearably tender and loving. Their two daughters would never want for understanding or support. Pure bliss overwhelmed her. “I am so happy.”

He nodded, suddenly a little misty, too. “I feel so blessed,” he murmured, holding Lily as if she were the greatest gift on earth.

He leaned forward and gently kissed Cady’s temple. “And not just because you married me and gave me the children I always wanted.” She grinned, and he winked as they both reflected on the fun they’d had doing just that. “But because,” Jeb continued huskily, “I finally understand what true happiness and contentment are.”

  So did Cady.

Six months into their dating life, she had quit her job in Houston, to take one in the marketing department of the Laramie County chamber of commerce.

The job was perfect. She loved devising plans for the local businesses, to boost their bottom line. She could do as much of her work at home as she wanted.

And Jeb was happy professionally, too. He liked his expanded cattle breeding operation so much he had purchased two black baldie bulls and was leasing them out to other ranchers for extra cash.

  Financially, they were all set.

But it was the home front where true joy existed.

“Whoever would have thought we could go from being good friends to head over heels in love?” she whispered, amazed at the changes the last two years had brought.

“You and I are proof couples do live happily ever after,” Jeb agreed.

And together, they set out to do just that.
